All the early reviews of the Xperia z1 is that it trounces the S$; no surprise really as me Xperia Z is on a par (and better in many ways) than the S4...

    Example:

    Xperia Z1 v S4
As an Nexus user, I’d go with the Honami Xperia Z1. It’s got a really great shooter, and Sony’s camera software is great. The Snapdragon 800 is a beast, and the expandable storage is helpful if you like storing files locally. I would have liked more RAM involved, but 2GB is plenty.
I also find the Sony display better in general, but the Super AMOLED is never a bad choice. The removable battery on the Galaxy S4 comes in handy when you least expect to run out of juice, too. There’s nothing more frustrating than actually needing your device while out and about, only to find that red bar at the bottom of the battery indicator.
However, if we’re talking real-world scenarios, a truly water resistant device may be more handy than a swappable battery. Not having to shield the device from the real world may be really handy.
The turning point for me is TouchWiz, which I’m just not a fan of. I find it bulky, confusing at the wrong times, and more than a little ugly. Sony’s interface is clean, simple, and gets me where I need to be.

I just installed a really neat app.

AirDroid, allows you to control lots of things on your phone by using your computer. No need to even connect it by cable.

^Dil, some great Sony news out today - a 4.3" Hitomi is on the way with all the specs of the new Z1, just a smaller screen. Gonna be great because it'll give me a reason to get an 8" tablet too...

A spec sheet has been spotted from a brochure in Japan, delving into some of the gory details for the smaller handset, previously referred to as the Xperia Honami Mini, which it titles the Sony Xperia Z1 f.
The quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU and 20.7-megapixel camera of the bigger Xperia Z1 are, interestingly, both featured on the phone, alongside 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage.

Do you think the bigger Z1 will suit me?

The Xperia Z1 is a powerful, luxury executive toy for those who have to have the biggest and best, regardless of whether they actually need it or not. It's a Range Rover for the school run. A gold toilet seat. Having all the sport and film channels on a telly in the shed. You'll feel awesome with one in your pocket.

    ^...

I just couldn't bring meself to buy an iPad mini today; just the iAppleness of it... Also, the thought of faffing around with iTunes and iApple connectors. Gonna wait until a decent 8" Android comes out, maybe this one:

The Asus MeMO Pad 8 comes with 8-inch IPS display with 1280x800 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor along with 1GB of RAM. It sports a 5-megapixel rear camera that can record 720p videos and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. The tablet measures around 127mm from side to side and weighs 350g. The Asus MeMO Pad 8 comes with 8GB of internal storage and supports a microSDXC card slot for expansion. Asus claims up to nine hours of HD video playback on a single charge .

I'd like 4g though, but want 8" rather than 7"; the missus always says an extra inch would be better...

^^that is the shitiest thing I have ever seen...

    Probably right popular up north.

^same as a Kindle, I have one, just measured and whilst the width may impress, the length and thickness would need more...

I can understand why you'd want to control a computer from a phone; you're normally out with a phone away from your PC.

    But the other way round?

What would you use it for Butters?

Try what? I have the fucking phone on me. Why do I need to remote control it? (Apart from Remote Wipe if it gets lost or stolen?)

I thought AirDroid allowed you to control and android device from a browser

I had intended to try it out on a tablet I have with a cracked touch layer - I was going to hook it up via HDMI to the television and see how it functioned as a media player using my note 2 as a remote.

I also have the android tv box which I had used with a 2.4RF keyboard and mouse , but was also intending to try with airdroid
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Now *that* is a sensible use for it. Would come in handy running those "Android on a Stick" jobbies.

of course Buttplug didn't know that, because he really doesn't have a fucking clue.
