Chinese company Huawei has big plans for this year’s Mobile World Congress trade fair. After introducing the world’s slimmest Android smartphone, the Ascend P1 S, during the International Consumer Electronics Show, Huawei is about to announce its most powerful smartphone.

The handset maker has started to send invitations for one of its events at the MWC 2012, in Barcelona. The company invites media and fans to see for themselves as “Huawei Device takes a leap into the future of mobile communications to unveil their fastest smartphone yet.”

Shortly after launching the Ascend P1 S, Huawei confirmed plans to debut an entire lineup of top-tier smartphones, which will be called “Diamond” series. It looks like the first Diamond series device will be announced at the end of this month.

Although the name of the smartphone has yet to be officially announced, the folks at UnwiredView have learned that a Japanese blog has revealed that Huawei Chairman Yu Chengdong unveiled the name of the upcoming smartphone on his Webo profile.

As the name suggests, Ascend D1 Q will be the first Diamond smartphone available on the market. The “Q” letter definitely stands for “quad-core,” as the “S” from Ascend P1 S stands for “slim.”

Moreover, Huawei also plans to announce a bigger and better Huawei tablet, a sequel to the 7-inch MediaPad slate, which will soon be shipped with Ice Cream Sandwich on board.

Huawei’s Chairman Yu Chengdong let it slip again that the new tablet will be called MediaPad 10 and will be delivered with a 10-inch touchscreen display.

There are no other details on any of the two Huawei devices that are expected to go live at the Mobile World Congress 2012, in Barcelona. However, we can safely assume that both will be powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, or a newer version of Google’s mobile platform.

Google to launch Chrome browser for Android mobiles

Internet search giant Google has announced that it is launching the popular Chrome Web browser for phones and tablets running its Android operating system.

That means Android 4.0 users can have scores of different web sites open simultaneously on their mobile phones.

Google's aim, however, is not simply to put a slightly better Internet browser on a mobile device.

The Telegraph quoted Sundar Pichai, Google's Senior Vice President for Chrome, as saying that the aim of launching the original browser was nothing less than "to move the whole web forward".

Pichai likened the experience to a "stack of cards" in your hand, as well as offering a new private mode that doesn't record what sites you've visited in your browsing history.

Improved integration with desktop versions mean that the browser can replicate the same tabs you have open on your main computer.

However, there remain two surprising problems for Chrome.

When Android first launched, one of its key-selling points was that it could display websites that used the Adobe Flash programming language, unlike Apple's iPhone.

Pichai said that Chrome for Android would not be able to do that.

The second issue is that, although there are now over 250 million Android devices worldwide, just one per cent of them can run Chrome, because it is only available for the latest version, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich.

Samsung has been hard at working pushing out a plethora of different devices across just about every category. Their smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S II have dominated the Android scene and their tablets like the Galaxy Tab have held their own as well. However, if for some reason the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (or any of their other Galaxy Tab devices) wasn’t enough for you the company has come forth today to show off the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

Right off the bat the biggest selling point of this tablet is the fact that it will come complete with the latest Android ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ 4.0. Under the hood the Galaxy Tab 2 is packing a 7-inch display with 1024 x 600 resolution, 1GHz dual-core processor and a 3 megapixel rear facing camera. Furthermore, the device also comes complete with 8/16/32GB of internal storage, a microSD slot for additional storage, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi and 4G HSPA+ (no word of an LTE model, unfortunately).

At this point in time Samsung is keeping the release date and expected price point of the Galaxy Tab 2 to themselves but the minute they say more we’ll push it your way.

Having a cnut of a time reverting from 4.0 back to 2.3.x. None of my PC's or laptops are recognizing USB mass storage, this is with or without USB debugging on. Any thoughts Harry or others? Or do I need to do a clean slash and re-partition through Oudin?

I have an old Juwe Rom on SD card but when I try install through CWM it syas 'installation failed'. Not sure if there is something wrong or even if it's the correct file.

Is flashing back from 4.0 to 2.3 through CWM as easy as it should be?

Did you install CWM and root it?

If so, reboot in Recovery mode, Wipe and restore. Or if you didn't back up, Install the ROM you want from the SD card. Even if you can't get the phone to open as a USB device, presumably you have an SD card reader?

Here's an idea, retard. The conversation is going over your head, because you're retarded. What do you do?

    (a) Make stupid comments like the silly schoolgirl you are, and continue to make a complete dick of yourself.

    (b) Open a big cold can of Shut the Fuck Up.

What do you do? What do you do?

No Flash for Chrome on Android

February 15, 2012, By Sanjeev Ramachandran You know two things. One: Adobe has given up on Flash for mobile operating systems. Two: Apple has refused to include Flash support for iOS devices. Now there is something else; Google has announced the availability of Chrome for Android and notably absent is the very same Flash support. The launch was in beta.
Adobe is no longer developing Flash Player for mobile browsers, and thus Chrome for Android Beta does not support Flash content, said Bill Howard, a group product manager on the Flash team, in an Adobe blog Tuesday.

Flash support in Google platform seemed to be kind of obvious when Apple showed it the red signal because Flash was a resource hog as well as posed some security concerns to Apple.
But things have changed since November last year, with Adobe dropping its plans on developing Flash for mobile operating systems. The only Flash updates that users of a mobile OS could expect were bug fixes and security updates.
Adobe has also confirmed that nothing has changed in regards to their future plans for Flash. So the Chrome for Android lacking Flash support makes sense. Adobe has said it will continue to work on their Flash platform, but mostly as it relates to their AIR technology.
The company is focusing on HTML 5, which is quickly becoming a new industry standard in web technology.

Why bother bringing out a 3.2 device when 4.0 is the current version. Just to announce at MWC? Seems a waste of time. Nice spec and all, but a bit pricey compared to the Prime HD, and no mention of battery life.

    Try one of these:

Then go out and buy the latest model as the manufacturers intend you to.

Nah, get an extra year out of the one you have now, then upgrade when the "latest model" is half the price.

If you're a tard that always buys the new one, you must own an iPhone.

I quite like the Moto ICONTAB 500, very stylish,

but for 12,000 THB, a bit expensive for a throw away toy, might as well buy a new 3D TV for that price

Gigabyte readying affordable dual SIM droid for MWC

    15 Feb, 2012, 6:16 pm IST | Karan Shah |

Motherboard manufacturers, Gigabyte, are introducing a new, affordable Android phone. Called the GSmart G1355, this smartphone is a dual SIM phone and not only that, it’s also got a large 4.3-inch WVGA screen. As reported by GSMArena, this phone is going to be a budget Android and it will run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The phone will be powered by an 800 MHz CPU with 512 MB RAM and an Adreno 200 GPU. It will consist of the older Qualcomm MSM7227T chipset. As part of the specifications, the GSmart G1355 will have a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, Wi-Fi b/g/n and a microSD card slot. The GSmart will be 11.5mm thick and will weigh around 170grams.

    The GSmart G1355

From the image, it seems that the phone might have a proximity sensor. The large screen is a welcome addition as well. This dual SIM phone is slated to come by February end, but we don’t have any information about its pricing still. From what is available, the specs look quite average. The processor isn’t that quick, so we’re hoping it’s properly optimized for Gingerbread to run smoothly on a 4.3-inch screen. However, it’s important to note that it might just be the only one in its category to have dual SIM card slots and a screen size that big. Though the rest might not sound too impressive to some, we’re hoping that this phone is priced in the lower most category to justify those specifications. Also, we’re hoping it’s a dual SIM dual active phone and not a dual SIM dual standby phone. MWC is coming in February end as well, so there could be high chances that the phone will be launched during that time. In the lower budget category, we have a handful of dual SIM phones, like the Spice Mi-350n, the Mi-280, the Micromax A75. They’re currently the best ones to own in the below 10k category, but if the GSmart is priced similarly, it can be a tough competition with that larger screen. What do you guys think should the GSmart G1355 be priced at?
