Children are sent by themselves as once they are in it is easier for the rest of they family to follow. It is a nice scam that plays on the heart strings of some people. Unfortunately the parents are risking their child so that they can move to a better country.
I totally agree, the whole process of illegal immigration by boat, is a giant SCAM it is funded by often "not so poor" family members, who are smart enough and want to live in the way they are used to, in wealthier Australian cities, on stupid Australian taxpayer funded Social Welfare!......

There are also large amounts of money involved, plus legal and lobbying support often funded by "extremist religious organisations".

The sending of unaccompanied children (tied to the many generous options by the Australian government for adding family members) is planned in detail, with the children used as the "means to an end", and played out by the despicable Australian lawyers who get fat on this gravy train! The criminals in Australia also have this "back door immigration" option to slip their disguised associates through the system.

The removal of all illegal boat passengers to Malaysia is by far he best solution...

From the limited information available via the media, it seems to me Australia will be much better off when all incoming migrants (refugees and non refugees) are properly assessed and filtered while in the queue.

There is room in Australia for many more migrants, and especially children, hard working farmers (such as the new immigrants from Myanmar) who will quite lkely be prepared to live in rural Australia, grow up, work hard, and have religious views that are not in conflict with the predominently Christian/"easy going" Australian values. These immigrants, unlike Islamic extremists, don't threaten the great Australian way of life, by insisting on compulsory wearing of religious clothing, and encouraging primitive laws from extremist religious groups!
The sending of Islamic refugees to a predominantly islamic country, seems very sensible to me, and with the increasing growth of the Malaysian economy they will probably be financially and socially much better off in the long term!

Australian navy intercepts new boat carrying asylum seekers

The Australian navy has intercepted a boat carrying 50 asylum seekers north-east of Christmas Island.

The boat is also believed to have two crew on board.

It was detected by HMAS Albany operating under the control of Border Protection Command.

The boat is the second to arrive since the government's Malaysian people swap deal became effective.

Under the plan Australia will send 800 asylum seekers to Malaysia in exchange for 4000 recognised refugees, whose cases have been verified by the United Nations refugee agency.

The immigration department says the latest group of arrivals will be transferred to Christmas Island for health and security checks pending removal to Malaysia.

So happy ... Kham Kap Thang Taithoul and family, the first refugees to come to Australia through the Malaysia deal.
    Photo: Rahman Roslan

IN THE seven years since he fled abuse and forced labour at the hands of the Burmese military, Kham Kap Thang Taithoul and his young family have hardly dared to hope for a permanent safe haven.

Their lives on the run have been dogged by a constant fear of forced return from the cramped flat they share with four other refugees in Kuala Lumpur, to face violent reprisals awaiting ethnic Chin villagers in the far north of Burma.

But that is about to change forever.

As the first plane load of boat arrivals is forcibly deported back to Malaysia as early as today under the federal government's swap deal, this family are the faces on the other side of the controversial refugee plan.

Kham, his wife Niang Lam Cing, and their children were told two weeks ago that they would be in the first group of refugees accepted by Australia under the pact.

''We were so happy that we danced in our room with our children. We don't know how to mention our happiness,'' Mr Taithoul said through an interpreter last week. ''We feel like we are going to a little heaven.''

When they board a flight to Melbourne this week, the family will put behind them the grinding poverty and uncertainty of life in the shadows of Malaysian society.

Their greatest hope is that their daughter, Cing San Lun, 4, and son, Hau Muon Khai, 2, might get an education eclipsing their own (neither parent went beyond primary school), and be able to live in freedom, safety and financial security.

But there is a bittersweet taste, too, as the family contrasts its own good fortune with that of others left behind.

''We are very happy that we have been approved but we feel very sad for those who have been stuck in Malaysia a long time,'' Mr Taithoul said. ''If Australia could take more refugees it would be very good and the refugees in Malaysia would have hope.''

Mr Taithoul is critical of the gamble taken by those families who, unlike them, could afford to pay people smugglers.

''This is not a good way because it makes other people wait longer for a chance with the UNHCR to find a chance to go to Australia,'' he said.

He believed the swap deal would ''scare the refugees waiting who think [using a] people smuggler is a good chance to go to Australia''.

Thanks for the news update, Mid. However you haven't addressed the points I have made about your previous post. Possibly because they were quite unbalanced and silly ? Are you still insisting that :

Ok....we'll let that pass. Oz has a small number of refugees compared to the rest of the entire world. But then, we only have a population of a bit more than 20 million, don't we ?
How about addressing the REST of your post, in which you say:

If you are going to make points and post links to support what you say, at least read the links properly. And have a sense of proportion, for God's sake !
Your link shows RATIOS of refugees compared to local population.
Do you have the mental flexibility to admit you made a wrong statement, and to then move on ? Or are you going to be pig-headed, or perhaps just not address this at all and pretend you never said this ???

Ok....thanks for having the humility to say you said something wrong. We're only human, but it always amazes me when people stick to their guns without the mental flexibility to sometimes admit they said something silly. I'm quite happy to admit I say silly/wrong things sometimes.....I have no problem with that at all. I'm sure you'll be keeping an eye on me !

Do you see the point about why Australian people are alarmed though ?
The new government is sending the wrong messages to the illegals and their facilitators. Even though I voted for this government, they are not being tough enough.....though they are getting the message now. And regarding the children being currently sent back, it has been rightly said that "Justice needs to be done, but it also needs to be SEEN to be done".
I agree that it's not nice to send back under-18s, but if Australia doesn't, they will be seen to be weak, and a huge number of under 18s will arrive. The graph shows EXACTLY what happens when the illegals see a government as being a "soft touch". The ( well-known for standing up for human rights and soft on illegals) Labour party came into power in December 2007.......The timing is amazing.

Just as a matter of interest, do you happen to know the age range of these minors ?

I'd like to point out that some family member at their departure point sent them on a VERY dangerous journey as an unaccompanied minor. And paid a lot of money to do it. This is often quite transparently just them trying to get their foot in the door.

    Another point:
"Immigration Minister Chris Bowen earlier told ABC Radio that of the people claiming to be minors some were clearly children and ``others are people who say they're 17 ''.
Their ages range from 10 to 17 years of age. Some were female but the majority were male. They were Afghani, Iranian, Iraqi, Sri Lankan and some were deemed to be stateless.

Fair enough Mid, time to shut the fuk up then as they are going to Malaysia whether you like it or not.

If you want to be pro active why don't you fly over to Malaysia and adopt one of these children ? I reckon 10 K would be the going price.

Bleating on like a tosser ain't going to change the situation and cutting and pasting some journalists personal views are laughable.

Your comments have been piss poor based on your emotion and not once in this thread have you offered up any constructive comment.

I don't know about you, but I was quite mature at 16, and in fact rooting the girl next door regularly. So I wasn't a babe in arms at that age. And the majority are male.

Immigration Minister Chris Bowen last night confirmed there would be no special treatment for unaccompanied minors in Australia's asylum-seeker deal with Kuala Lumpur, because it would lead to parents placing children on boats by themselves hoping they would be accepted here.
"I have been very clear that you need to send a strong message," Mr Bowen told the ABC's Lateline. "I don't want children getting on boats to come to Australia thinking or knowing there is some kind of exemption in place.
We need to break the people-smugglers business model.
"I do not want to send the message that it's OK to get on a boat if you fit one sort of particular category."

No-one's saying it's a nice thing to do, Mid. But it's a necessary thing to do.

Real comments by genuine refugees that have done the hard yards in Malaysia.

They have been accessed to be genuine and are now destined for a fantastic life in a brilliant country.

I wish them all the best and they are welcome in my house any time but the Illegals are scum, they expect to be accepted by Australia at the expense of genuine refugees like the family above.

It may mean the Gillard government loses, but I think that the carbon tax plus mining royalties will do them in at the next election.

Let me analyze your statement Mid, see if I can see where your coming from.

I suspect that you are referring to the transfer of the Illegals to Malaysia but Australia accepting a much larger amount of refugees in return. ?

I think thats what your getting at but instead of me having to guess can you please be clear.

My posts are crystal clear, whether you like them or not you don't have to second guess them.

    Anyway back to your post.

I have no problem with accepting the genuine refugees into my society, I figure the above family will contribute to our society in a positive way by being hard working and grateful of the chance of a new life.

We have enough room to take these people but we have fuk all room for Illegals.

Oh, right ! We have lost MORALLY !
I'll be sure to relay your objections to the Australian government.
Should I tell them the famous "Mid" from Teakdoor says they are morally bankrupt ? I'm sure they will be mortified.....
Try the reality of LIVING in Australia and constantly reading the headlines that MORE illegals have landed ! Then try losing your low-end job because the State government has seen fit to make it easy for foreign students to work there.
Have another look at the graph I posted above.......and actually take on board what I've said.......
