All joking apart, I do think it is very possible that this American nation (along with its' allies,) formed in only the last 2-3 hundred years, with it's obsession with capitalism, growth, power, money, wealth and MTV TV has doomed the world.

It's not the commercial structures you've created it's the socially conflictive, aggressive, devisive, rascist and fundamentally abhorrent sub-culture thet threatens the people of the world. Either by corrupting them to join or offending them to regress, you slowly advance.
Advancing, ever forwards, to the destruction of

ART, LOVE, PEACE, COMMUNICATION, and, maybe, friendship.

the paras in the falklands used phosporus grenades to clear trenches. against the geneva convention. they also executed some american mercenaries caught fighting for the argie special forces. however, at goose green battalion strength (600 men) rolled up a regiment of argies (2000 +) across open ground and dug-in positions without air cover. then because the atlantic conveyor had been sunk along with the chinooks that were supposed to carry the paras across the island, the paras then tabbed 50 km across bog at 3C with full kit. water starts to turn to ice at 4C. at the end of the tab they stormed a mountain full of dug-in argies. the only bayonet charge since the 2nd world war. this was just one battalion (2nd). Another battallion also did well.

Lady T was quite simply the greatest post war PM we have had. I am one of "Maggies children", and I can honestly say I never had it so good as when she was in charge. If you could be bothered to get off your arse and graft, and were good at what you did, you got the rewards. Dont even get me started on the miners. That wanker Scargil, lives not too far from me in his palacial manor. The miners round our way were paid far more than your average man. What did they do with the money I ask? Probably piss it up against wall, spend it on cigs and bingo down the miners welfare club. I just wish William Haigh was still leading the Tories instead of that knob Cameron.

No. And that's why we find it easy to slag off anyone's Govt, including our own. No reverence earned or deserved. Easy.

That was only so they could see them, anyway, we don't let facts get in the way of slagging off of the baby eaters

The outcome of the Falklands War gave the UK back a sense of pride that was a bit absent for a long time.

This country would not be in the state it is in if she were in charge today.

    In my opinion like.

    Falklands?

Sort of like when Clinton bombed Libya to detract from being caught with his pants down. Purely political. Very sadly for those men who died, one of whom, at least, I knew.

Heh...here's just one example of why she was the greatest PM since Chruchill:

    BRITAIN AWAKE

"The first duty of any Government is to safeguard its people against external aggression. To guarantee the survival of our way of life.

The question we must now ask ourselves is whether the present Government is fulfilling that duty. It is dismantling our defences at a moment when the strategic threat to Britain and her allies from an expansionist power is graver than at any moment since the end of the last war.

Military men are always warning us that the strategic balance is tilting against NATO and the west.

    But the Socialists never listen"

    ...emphasis mine...

Labour Doesn't Work - was the phrase coined by satchi and satchi to describe the shit hole britain had become under labour. often cancer can only be cured by devastating treatment and she treated the sick man of europe. can you honestly say english taxpayers should have continued to pay for unefficient drunk taffy miners?

That's right and if there's any doubt re the approach she took, all one has to do is read this speech she gave regarding the pathetic state of the Industrial Situation when she took office.

To question merely as an academic exercise is useless. To question for the sake of finding alternative solutions, yes, that is noble.

Merely 'questioning' leads Britain to the irrelevant place it occupies today.

^^Simply put...No. The competitive tension between the conservatives and liberals in America is what makes it so vibrant. Any party can lose, and irrespective of the outcome, true leaders can emerge from either party. Reagan was an Icon for many millions, just as Clinton was, and in a prior generation, Kennedy, who was the ultimate Icon for many Americans.

I'm sorry Britain lost this tradition, if it ever had it.
