We could get Elvis Costello to play "Tramp the Dirt Down".
I'd dance to it.
For all you uncultered slobs, here's an excerpt of the lyrics:
"Well I hope I dont die too soon
I pray the lord my soul to save
Oh Ill be a good boy, Im trying so hard to behave
Because theres one thing I know, Id like to live
Long enough to savour
Thats when they finally put you in the ground
Ill stand on your grave and tramp the dirt down"
I'll lived thru her time at #10. In my town we went from 8% unemployment to over 25%. I hope she rots in hell.
Stops free milk for school children, later deregulates school meals so all they have on the menu is burger and chips! The health of the nation was not her concern.
Shamelessly used the 'race card' to get elected PM.
Her idols are Keith Joseph (who ruined his own chance of being leader by going on TV and talking about sterilising the poor) and Enoch Powell.
In the first of her two recessions (the worst since the 1930's), one fifth of our industrial base is wiped out and unemployment is more than doubled, there are summer riots in every inner-city in the country. Not bad for her first 2 years in office.
The Falklands! In a gross piece of incompetence (or was it deliberate?) fails to avert the Falklands crisis by ignoring intelligence on the Argentine preparation for invasion in early 1982. Indeed she seems to positively encourage it by proposing scrapping the only warship we have there and having her defence secretary Nicholas Ridley openly say we didn't want the Falklands, thereby giving the impression we are not bothered about the islands! In 1978 when faced with the same intelligence, the Labour government quietly averts a war through diplomatic channels by threatening to send a taskforce. It's the classic tale, to divert attention from disastrous economic policies at home a crooked leader engages in a foreign war (except I'm not talking about Galtieri!). Perhaps Thatcher was getting advise from some of the brutal dictatorships she helped prop up in South America, "Would you like some more tea Mr Pinochet?". Number of British soldiers killed, 278, Argentines, 3000+. Blood on her hands anyone?
Destruction of local democracy. The popular GLC was scrapped despite over 80% of Londoners being opposed. Londoners have to wait over 13 years before getting an assembly back and electing Livingstone as its leader once again.
Under Thatcher VAT increased from 8% to 17.5% and was also levied on utility bills for the first time as well. What she gave the rich in income tax cuts she took from the poor in indirect taxation.
The myth of the strong leader. This was a total invention of the press. Thatcher's only strength (if you could call it that) was that she had no principles at all! She was an anti-smoking campaigner who ended up on the payroll of British American Tobacco. She had to do a U-turn on her 'flagship' economic policy after 2 years because she had wrecked the economy (This was just one year after her famous speech in 1980 where she assured the party faithful she was going to stick to monetarist policies-"You turn if you want to...the lady's not for turning"-yeah right!!). The Poll Tax was a disaster which she had to U-turn on (but too late to save her from being stabbed in the back!). She went to Europe saying she was against federalism but signed its most federalist law (the Single European Act in 1986). She later claimed she was tricked on this. Did she even know what she was doing? Some strong leader that is! And to top it all off, even in departure she was weak. "I fight on, I fight to win" she said in her pompous way before quietly resigning hours later when confronted by Ministers like Geoffrey Howe!!! It was the final U-turn from a weak puppet leader whose only qualities (as far as the Tories were concerned) were she did what she was told.
The womans a dregg and she deserves to suffer like so many did under her rule.

Lovely woman, if it wasn't for her I would probably still be living in the UK, I only came here to wait out the recession, still it aint too bad here I suppose.
Actually she drove all the labour run councils crazy, they wanted to throw money at me, I was under a conservative council, they weren't gonna rent my house to house homeless scum, tower hamlets were offering 500 quid a week for my house, but only when it had homeless scum living in it, I went for the safer bet with Greenwich who paid me 700 quid per month garaunteed for 3 years at least, remember this was like 17 years ago and my house weren't no mansion![]()
I will never forget being invited to a Conservative businessman's meeting near the end of her days in power. By this time I was already conviced I would vote Labour.
There were forty of us seated in a square and towards the end of the evening the local Party agent stood up and, amongst other things, told us that the local Party did not have sufficient money to fight an election and that, in similar circumstances, businessmen had each donated £ 400 in the past.
By far the most prominent businessman in the room stood up and calmly stated that his Grandfather had started his Company, his father had developed it into a nationwide concern, and he had taken the Company into Europe. BUT in one decade Thatcher had undone much of what three generations of his family had created.
He, of course, was a man who derived his wealth from business and not from buying and selling council houses.
Nobody gave these stupid people a penny.
I see fish. They are everywhere. They don't know they are fish.
I remember those bloody conservative meetings to get funds -- I met my wife at one -- I have voted labour ever since but what I will vote next time is a mystery beause I don't trust any of them-- maybee they will get Toxin to form a party. who is paying for the funeral anyway???? My taxed pension again???
Damn, whenever I read he headline I think the old cow is dead . . .
Still not sure if HM is dead...says much about staying in touch with the world from the jungle.
her son is not doing too well either, brokering deals for overthrowing third world governments,
apparently got caught, a family of questionable characters, no doubt
I think England would have been in better shape now with thriving industries instead of the service industry it has become now,
The Great Industrial Revolution started in England and ended under Thatcher,
You Brits did get your asses whiped and sent packing by General Washington I recall.
We dropped two nukes on Japan and they've been bowing down ever since.
Maybe if the other countries you mentioned were handled the same way things would be a little quieter now?
Ya never know...
Hey just a thought...![]()
Britians Industrial might declined after Germany surpassed us in the first decade of the 20th century.
Long before Thatcher!
I think you give the lady too much credit
it could have re-invented itself, instead Tatcher decided to let it go, quite a dramatic and big decision to make for a single person,Originally Posted by good2bhappy
she did accelerate England recovery by a couple of years, I will give her that. But a few years in exchange of century old industries was a bit expensive IMO.
I thought they burnt old witches
