    Bali Executions

Well, it looks as if they are finally getting scheduled. According to TV reports here, the lone Filipina, who in my opinion is the least guilty of any of them, has been notified that her execution is scheduled for Tuesday. So, that's the three-day warning notice - at least for her.

Mods - I started a new thread to focus only on the executions. Of course, if you disagree, feel free to merge it with one of the other existing lengthy threads.

Bali Nine: Who are the other prisoners on death row with Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran?

Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran are not the only death row prisoners in Indonesia awaiting execution.

The pair are among a group of 11 prisoners who have recently been approved for execution by the Indonesian government.

The list also includes prisoners from France, Ghana, Brazil, Nigeria, the Philippines and Indonesia.

    Rodrigo Gularte - Brazil

The 43-year-old Brazilian national was convicted of trying to smuggle 19 kilograms of heroin into Jakarta in 2004.

He was sentenced to death in 2005.

Aid organisation Reprieve said Gularte was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder with psychotic features.

The organisation also claimed international law prohibits the execution of individuals with mental or intellectual disabilities.

Brazil made the decision to recall its ambassador to Indonesia in January following the execution of another of its citizens.

President Dilma Rousseff made the country's position clear to Indonesia, saying she was "distressed and outraged" by the execution in January.

Martin Anderson (alias Belo) - Ghana

Anderson was arrested in Kelapa Gading in November 2003 for possessing 50 grams of heroin.

In 2004 he was sentenced to death in a Jakarta court.

Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso - Philippines

The only woman on the list of those to be executed, 30-year-old Veloso was arrested at Adisucipto International Airport in April 2010 after being found with 2.6 kilograms of heroin.

She was sentenced to death by the Sleman District Court in October 2010 for attempting to smuggle the heroin into Indonesia from Malaysia.

    Raheem Agbaje Salami ‎- Nigeria

Salami was sentenced to life in prison by the Surabaya District Court in April 1999 after being convicted of smuggling 5.3 kilograms of heroin through Juanda airport in September 1998.

In May 2006, his life sentence was upgraded to the death penalty by the Supreme Court and he was not allowed to appeal to a higher court, according to Amnesty International.

    Serge Areski Atlaoui - France

The 51-year old was arrested in November 2005 and charged with possessing 138.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, 290 kilograms of ketamine and 316 drums of precursor at a drug-making factory in Tangerang.

He was originally sentenced to life in prison by the Tangerang District Court in November 2006, but it was upgraded to the death penalty in May 2007 by the Supreme Court.

Atlaoui, from Metz, west of Paris, has always maintained his innocence, saying he was only paid to maintain machines in the factory where the drugs were found.

"He was abused. We have always said that he was welding machines in a factory producing acrylic," his lawyer, Richard Sedillot, told French newspaper La Croix.

Mr Sedillot said when Atlaoui was working in Holland he was approached by a "recruiter" to work with him in Indonesia.

    Zainal Abidin - Indonesia

Abidin was originally sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment by the Palembang District Court in September 2001 after being convicted of smuggling 58.7 kilograms of marijuana.

His sentence was upgraded to the death penalty by the Palembang High Court in December 2001.

Syofial (alias Iyen bin Azwar), Sargawi (alias Ali bin Sanusi) and Harun bin Ajis - Indonesia

The three Indonesian men were sentenced to death by the Bangko District Court in November 2001 for the murder and rape of seven members of an indigenous community in Jambi in 2000.

    That's pretty screwed up.
A Brazilian with bipolar and schizophrenia, a Frog who claims he thought he was welding machines in a factory producing acrylic, and someone caught with 58.7 kilograms of marijuana.

No one has any reason to skip any country if not involved in smuggling drugs.

    Quite simple really.

On entering Malaysia today there was a nice loud warning on the plane advising against smuggling drugs.

    Everyone knows the deal huh.

France warns Indonesia of consequences if Frenchman executed over drug offences

    Apr 25, 2015 3:23 PM

BAKU, Azerbaijan (AFP) - French President Francois Hollande warned on Saturday that Indonesia faces diplomatic consequences if it pushes ahead with the planned execution of Frenchman Serge Atlaoui over drug trafficking offences.

“If he is executed, there will be consequences with France and Europe because we cannot accept this type of execution,” he told reporters during a visit to Baku in Azerbaijan, adding that the repercussions would essentially be of a “diplomatic” nature.

“At the very least, we will recall our ambassador” from Jakarta, the president said, adding that he would also not visit Indonesia “for some time”.

In addition, discussions over possible cooperation that had been mooted between Hollande and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo during the November G20 summit could also be suspended.

The thing is Indo will never bow down to diplomatic pressure. All it ever does is piss them off and make things worse.

Australians on here can remember back in the 80's when then Prime Minister Paul keating was punching it out with Malaysia's Mahaterir ? Spelling.

He just dug in deeper, they hated each other.

Well you can't exactly get off the plane if that's the first time you've been made aware of it.

How it usually works is that they wait for some dumb retard to break the law and then they usually give them the chance to buy their way out.

Quite decent of them I say.

Normal innocent tourists have nothing at all to fear.

Drug smuggling scum must beware that they could quite possibly die if caught.

    Nothing new here huh.

Come off it Tel I know you don't really think that this practice is ok. You don't have to break any local laws to find yourself victim of this kind of stitch up either, piss off the wrong person and simple spite and malice could set off a chain of events that puts an innocent person on the end of a rope, dopey local plod don't give a monkies for the truth neither they just want a body to pin it on.

Is that a typo? It's orders of magnitude less than the others and it says he was only arrested for possession, not smuggling or dealing or anything. Seems like he got well shafted.

I've been to Bali 6 million times mate and so have my friends, never had 1 minutes worth of problem simply because I don't break their Laws.

I did drive through a red light once and was busted by the filth.

Smashed a room up once, payed off the manager no probs.

They let me pay them off, saved me going through the system.

My fault, I was happy to pay.

So back to the start again , plenty of people fuking up over there so no need for the pigs to extort innocent people.

The frenchman has just been given a reprieve.

(Reuters) - Indonesia has granted a temporary reprieve to a French death row inmate due to be executed soon with nine other drug convicts, a French embassy official said on Saturday.

Serge Atlaoui was initially among a group of 10 inmates, which include nationals from Australia, Brazil, France, Ghana, Nigeria, and the Philippines, due to be executed soon by firing squad on the prison island of Nusakambangan.

An official at the French embassy in Jakarta told Reuters it had been notified by the Attorney General's Office that Atlaoui would not be in the next round of executions. It was not clear why his death sentence was postponed.

"We remain extremely cautious. Everything can change from one day to the next," said Richard Sedillot, Atlaoui's lawyer.

"I am torn between an extreme sadness to learn that other condemned could be executed and the relief to learn that the man I was defending for eight years could at this stage be spared."

The news came with marches in support of Atlaoui slated to take place in Paris and in Metz, eastern France, his home town.

France has told Indonesia the executions could damage relations, while Australia has pleaded repeatedly for clemency for Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, two Australians arrested as ringleaders of the so-called Bali Nine drug-smuggling group.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said on Saturday that Indonesia had notified her government the execution of the two Australian men would be "scheduled imminently".

(Reporting by Randy Fabi in Jakarta, Dominique Vidalon and Marine Pennnetier in Paris, and Christopher McCall in Sydney; Editing by Mark Heinrich)
Terry, you are quite wrong in your assumption that innocents have nothing to fear.

You, as an experienced Asian hand should know that the judicial process in third world Asian countries is not for the faint hearted and many innocent people languish in gaols due to a lack of influence, a lack of money and lawyers and judges that are as corruptible and immoral as the scum police that seem commonplace in these countries.

Although the Australians can have no complaints about their convictions, the evidence used to convict the Filipino girl is flimsy to put it mildly.

And as long as you don't meet a woman that accuses you of buggering her son with a magic stone you plucked from thin air in a magic invisible room.... you will continue to have trouble free visits to indo.

The fenchmans case does rather remind me of that anglothai couple that were convicted of drug offences simply because they were present in the aprtment block at the time of the raid.

It will be rather interesting what happens to the french chap as France has form for strong arming foreign governments to get its chaps home. I'm thinking of those french government employees that got themselves arrested & convicted committing acts of terrorism in new zealand.

These folks on death row, knew they risks and consequences. They rolled the dice.

People are dying all over the world from cancer to car crashes to earthquakes.

Why give a sh*t about those who tried to break the law for ca$h and got caught?
