Cambodian Visa Run
For many tourists in Thailand Cambodia is the quickest and easiest place to do a visa run to, whether it is to come back in on your multiple entry visa or come in on a 15 day visa exempt stamp, or flying to Phnom Penh to apply for a new visa for Thailand.
Most border entry points into Cambodia will issue you with a Cambodian tourists visa which is valid for 30 days, this costs 1,000baht, you will also need to supply them with a passport type photo, if you don't have one then you will have to pay a small
fine, if you are not going to spend the night in Cambodia you will also have to pay a small
fine, this varies from 100baht to 300baht depending which border crossing you use.
*NB, as of late 2009 no ticket out of Thailand is required.*
*Doing a visa run to Cambodia there are a few pitfalls, you will need a
ticket out of Thailand valid for that period of time you are allowed into Thailand, at
Pong Nam Ron/ Ban Laem on the Cambodian side of the border, Daung you will be able to buy a
bus ticket onto Phnom Penh, although it is believed that there isn't actually a bus and this is a bit of a
scam, the Ban Laem to Daung border crossing is the most popular one for visa runners from Bangkok and Pattaya as it is the least problematic.
*
AirAsia has 2 flights per day from Bangkok to Phnom Penh, the first leaves at 7.00am, the afternoon flight is at 14.50pm.
If you decide to fly to Phnom Phen from Bangkok there are many
hotels and attractions to see there while awaiting for your new visa to Thailand to be issued, there is also a large choice of cheap hotels and guesthouses including
Flamingos Hotel and
The Walkabout, also many
bars are worth a visit to help quench your thirst.
Here is a thread on one of our members trips to Phnom Penh, a trip to the famous shooting range where you can shoot rocket launchers at cows, eat a
*happy* pizza, and other interesting things to see and do.
This
thread is a members journey from Pattaya to Phnom Penh, a stay at Flamingos Hotel, meals at different restaurants in Phnom Penh, including a Lebanese Restaurant which wasn't so good.
NB** It seems the authorities are clamping down on
Happy Pizzas.
