You've been in SEA for at least five years (?) now teaching English. Do you have any ambitions to do something else? If you had to return to the US, do you think you could live a decent life here?

I've been overseas basically since December of 2000. That's about 9 years (minus an 8 month break back to the US).

I still enjoy teaching, but I also realize (to be honest) that the longer one does it, the more the financial consequences will be.

And it probably will be harder for me to get gainful employment as I just turned 40 and the economy is very slow where I'm from (West of Seattle). But I do have family in the Washington DC area, and would possibly try living there again.

Could I live a decent life?

Lifestyle? I don't think so. Not after living in South East Asia, with lots of time and opportunities to travel.

The one factor would be saving for when I'm older. But with the current and possibly future of the US economy, 1. how much will I be able to save? and 2. where will I put the money? Not in housing. Not in USD.

With the economy very uncertain, njdesi, and the housing dropping like a stone, and with many of my friends and family members working and treading water, or being under-employed, I am questioning where I would end up.

I enjoyed 2 jobs I had in the past in US, and actually resigned from a pretty good paying job in 2003 to return to South East Asia in 2003, after the 8 month break.

But the company I last worked for (which offered me work just 2 years ago) is on the verge of bankruptcy, right now. They're going to close their doors this year, most likely.

But any feelings that I may have about being fooled by that are easily overshadowed by the sheer sorrow I'd feel for anyone demented enough to pull that off.

^^I think KW can see their IP addresses. If you follow some of the New Members threads,…….KW will usually call out (identify) a multi-nick person. His post might be deleted in time. But he has been kind enough to let some of us know,…..that New Member (?) isn’t who they say they are.

Recently KW has call out that Sue character and Mooncake, that I have seen.
