people who build things, i'm impressed.

i have always wanted to be able to build stuff.
    i can't.

i am reminded of when i first went to live abroad and landed in istanbul.
the stuff there must have been 700 years old or more, no idea, but remember thinking...they knew a thing or 2 about concrete.

my pond is leaking, very slowly but a bit quicker than could be explained by sun absorbtion, 2 fish have died and it's the only thing i ever tried to build and it took me months.

this thread is crap, but building people do a good job i suppose.

if you weren't dead, you'd have something nice to look back on.

Don't knock yourself out over it Nooners. It all comes down to practice. I started on garden walls. The first one was rubbish, the second one looked terrible, but stayed up. Next thing I knew, they had let me loose on the conservatory wall. I never will make the title 'bricklayer' but , with a bit of practice, these things slowly organise themselves into your sub-consious. You get better, without thinking about it.

I can build stuff but i never built a house or a pond. In a few months I'll be starting to build a new home in Thailand. There will be a thread and it might even be a good one.

I have no doubts it is a mystical art and yet its practitioners all appear to share the same bewilderment at those of us who remain uninitiated.

It's not a priblem to fix (the leak). I will write tomorrow when I have a little time, if you like. It will not cost much to fix it.
For now let the water leak out,......it will stop once it reaches the leak/break/crack.
Have a plan for your fish and water plants for about a week away from their home.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Building buildings is impressive. I'm a musician. I can play a song and put my entire heart and soul into it, and poof, it blows away with the next breeze. A builder with an infant son can take him for a drive and show him all his work. And when the child grows to be 50 he can take his dad for a drive and show him how all his work is still standing and in service to its owners and/or the community.

Yep, I hope so. I want to get fit and dust off a few skills I have not used in a few years. Most of my work will be done on the interior though, wiring, lighting, tiling, plumbing and carpentry.........general fitting out. I'll leave the structural stuff the the hired labour.

Building actually takes quite a lot of skill... Which begs the question should builders be allowed to do the job

Only takes a couple of weeks for even the thickest most moronic people in the world to become qualified teflers in Thailand, so a months long course on civil engineering should enable someone to quite safely build their 120 storey skyscraper

Well a civil engineer isn't quite the same thing as a builder. To call yourself an engineer you should really have a degree in the field.

You must be terribly jealous of my skills, Mr Noon.

The nicka at work making a desk.

I made that workbench as well by the way. I won't post some of my other creations as some people get inferiority complexes.

I suppose you could always get nun chuck skills instead if you wanted to get a girlfriend
