I’m not that bothered what I’m mixed with to be honest.

I suppose we have integrated with every race and nationalities we have encountered along the way.

Im more interested in the further back history.

My sample has been received in the lab.

    My family tree is escalating.

^^ My daughter was assessed as 2% Nigerian, which seemed strange and I wonder if it's a common fault or bug with the interpreation of the DNA markers.

She had 50% Asian heritage (from her mother) so the Nigerian portion came with the mix from my side of the family.

It'll be interesting to see if my DNA results give me Nigerian heritage. I display pretty much Caucasian features but it would certainly help explain one part of my anatomy.

If you know what I mean.

Only if you believe that heritage is equally taken from mother and father.

^ That was my assumption, that the mother and father each donate 50% of their offspring's DNA.

Although as with everything else, I'm sure it gets more complicated than that?

Yeah, but if, say, the Irish side of the family is exclusively on the female side, one's heritage and health outcomes may be different as mitochondrial DNA is only inherited through the female line.

I am assuming that your wife is a Korat native and therefore may have some Khmer in her. Khmer have a lot of Indian, Persian, Middle Eastern & African DNA but more East African than West African.

^^ Yeah, my ex-wife had fuzzy hair and her skull shape was quite Ethiopian, though not as light bulb-shaped as some people there now.

I didn't know Khmers had Persian or even Middle Eastern though. This gets interesting...that may account for the back-stabbing.

^ from all the trade done during the Angkor period where there was a lot of trade between the Khmer and the groups I mentioned. The main genetic influence comes from India which in turn came from the Middle East which in turn came from East Africa. It is more probable that West Africans came from people who travelled west from East Africa and not that a Nigerian teaversed Africa and took a boat to Khmer and shagged a local. So the Nigerian DNA is probably basically just East African DNA which is the epicentre of us all.

Frizzy hair and another one I've noticed is the wide hips, especially in Buriram girls.

Jeeezus. Proof that a little bit of knowledge is just dumb.

Health outcomes are principally environmental (lifestyle). For example, from memory, only 20% of cancer is attributed to genetics. Our genes are said to be the loaded gun, but it's our lifestyle that pulls the trigger.

Yes, the wife is very much Khmer. Many of her family also have an Indian appearance.

This is my daughter's profile (which I think I may have posted before).

I kind of assumed that the top three Asian (which total 50.4%) were donated by the wife, the remainder by me. This means that the daughter's a little bit more her mum than her dad, poor thing.

I'd miss-remembered the Nigerian component, she has only 1.2%. Does that mean that I'm around 2.4% Black? I'll have to get my test sorted as my interest is aroused now. I may even use the second spare kit on the wife.

Coincidentally, on Monday at Korat bus station, the girl who sold me the ticket had the hairiest arms I've ever seen on a female. I wonder of she had Persian heritage?

^ I'm guessing a high proportion of 'Irish, Scottish and Welsh' DNA?
