By a strange coincidence, something happened yesterday with regards to all of this, that was a bit sad. But I better not say as it certainly wouldn't shine me in a better light.

If the current value of 23andMe is any guide then the answer is that they don't get much. It seems that once someone has done their test there isn't a lot of repeat business and the company hasn't been very successful at building other revenue streams.

So not only am I going to test myself, I'm also going to do my wife for Christmas this year!
There's a lot of terrible reviews all over tinternet about this company 'my heritage'. Add innacurate results, inexact science and thieving bastards to your search terms after the company name and you'll see why neanderthal man hasn't appeared on your results as of yet

    ^thanks for that info.

Based on what I've heard from YT genealogists, My Heritage is OK if you just want superficial info like nationalities & their percentages. However, if you want to do more stuff like trace/ build family trees, explore haplogroups, upload your data to other sites like GEDmatch, etc - then it's better to use either 23 and me or Ancestry dot com.

Then there's this issue about 23 and me - that they're having financial troubles and people are worried about what will happen to their genetic data.

I guess for Mendy's, Eddy's & Chitty's cases, if they just want the percentages & nationality breakdown then My Heritage will suffice. (and the kits are on sale)

^ All I was curious about was some idea of our ancestry. I have no interest in trying to trace a family tree or being told about any diseases we may be genetically predisposed to develop, or have any kind of long term subscription, etc.

My mum's family hails from the north east, and MyHeritage identified 30% viking genes, which seems consistent.

The daughter has a very Western looking name and I ordered her DNA kit to arrive in the UK one Christmas, so there was no indication of any Asian heritage as far as MyHeritage was concerned (I was worried about them cheating). They had her as 50% Asian and nearly 50% European (with a bit of African), which to my mind is bang on. That was all I wanted out of it.

Yeah Katie, the youngest snd I are paid up and waiting for our swab kits in the post.

The youngest was excited about being related to Genghis Khan without me mentioning it.

Tbf 3.9 stars out of 5 and tens of thousands of reviews is a good indication.

Mostly peeps go online to give bad reviews and say nothing when it's OK.

^ I had an email this morning saying that mine have just entered Thailand.

I ordered two kits, is that 7 Baht for both or each?

The kid did hers and I mailed it off to Texas this afternoon y'all.

1000+ for EMS or 355thb for registered. I channeled me inner Mendip and still have 45 baht of me daily budget.
