To be honest, tough:
FREE Life in the UK tests 2022 by Lifeintheuktestweb.co.uk
Test 1, question 2: When did Britain become permanently separated from the continent by the Channel?
Just did test 1, 75% (passed). So, yeah - tough.
They just remember all the answers and questions even if they don't understand them.
Took my ex years to pass.
One of her friends took 7 years to pass it.
Cost her husband a fortune.
When did Britain become permanently separated from the continent by the Channel?

as the last ice age melted, was it 11,000 years ago?
Are they multiple choice? So a) 10 years ago, b) last week c) 11,000 years ago or d) I like toffees
I do realise I could have clicked the link…just musing more than anything else.
those answers are tough.
The whole test is tough if you don't know it, there is little that you can guess at if you are uncertain but i suppose that is the point
On further investigation i would have to change my evaluation from "tough" to "fucking tough". I (just) passed on only 3 out of 5.
Then there's the listening test which most Thai women fail on, the oral they surprisingly excellent at![]()
I have cable!
Only a few months ago we canvassed enough signatures to get an inspection team sent out to assess the village. We are only a few houses and about 2km from the nearest cable. The chap in charge gave a wry smile and said something like "Cable, out here? You're 'avin a larf mate. Not in your lifetime."
Then a while back I canned my True4G SIMmed router because it was frankly rubbish. I survived on using the hotspot on my smart phone, which is also True 4G. I don't know why I ever thought the True Router would be any better than my True SIM phone. It wasn't.
Next step was to try the competition. I bought an AIS router with a new SIM and it was a great improvement on the True bollix. The AIS router is still so new that we haven't yet had our first bill.
Then out of the blue, a week after getting the new router, a 3BB truck pulled up at the gate and asked if we wanted cable. We said yes and signed a piece of paper. Sufficient of our neighbours signed up and we were on a promise. A couple of weeks passed then at 11 a.m. today the gf called and said they'd be installing the box at midday. I laughed, there is no cable in the street, but if they want to give us the box that's fine.
Maybe this should be in Harry's mysterious Thailand thread. About 1130 a 3BB truck appeared and a couple of blokes went up ladders stringing cable along the electricity posts. An hour later they were up the electricity post in my garden pulling cable over the road and into my house, through the loft and down into the lounge. By 1330 the tv and the wifi were up and running and the blokes were gone.
Here we are now, posting on TD at 55Mbps up and down. For the same price as the rubbish True router which regularly fell below 2 Mbps.
Now I can think about that PulseTV box that PAG recommended.
Excellent!
in the UK i have fibre now i have moved north at 67Mbs and its great. In the village down south the main BT Openreach box for the area was about 400 yrds from my house but they wouldn't run the fibre cable to most of the village.
Being you guys just mentioned internet speed and cable, True just upgraded to a full fiber network system and for 150bht we upgraded the system to their True GigaTex Fiber. Just checked speed, Download 398 Mbps, Upload 378 Mbps. Our monthly service fee is 765bht
I watched the installer check on his box and he had numbers like those. I am using wifi to the router, maybe that has some effect. It is an old laptop now, that probably has some impact too.
My phone is showing 145, also wifi from the router.
Going from <2 to over 50 is already a win.
^^ Just shows how much we are ripped off in the west, mine is approx 1020TB equivalent
Yes sorry, with BT Openreach we'll be lucky to ever get to 100MB![]()
Mines 50ish which gets everything done that I need.
It is that time of year again, the annual visa extension. Which thread was this going to end up in?
I got everything filled out and copied and new photos and cash and whatever. What could possibly go wrong? Well, you know something will. TiT.
Arrived at the bank at opening time to get my letter, already booked and paid for. No, the system is down. Wait a bit, wait a bit longer, wait more. No, it's not going to happen today, please visit the other branch.
Lunchtime now, eventually the bank gives me the papers I need and we are off to Immigration. Where there were no other customers and everything went swimmingly. Absolutely no drama at all.
So I went for the Re-entry permit too, because I am definitely getting out of Thailand this year. They need a second set of photocopies of the whole passport, which I don't have. No problem they say, we'll make the copies for you. All done and dusted.
I paid the two bills and left, forgetting to collect my change as seems to be polite practice around here.
I am good for another year. Everybody happy.
^ Re immigration, that's Buriram is it not?
Did you go to the new main office or the change arena satellite office?
