I have cable!

Only a few months ago we canvassed enough signatures to get an inspection team sent out to assess the village. We are only a few houses and about 2km from the nearest cable. The chap in charge gave a wry smile and said something like "Cable, out here? You're 'avin a larf mate. Not in your lifetime."

Then a while back I canned my True4G SIMmed router because it was frankly rubbish. I survived on using the hotspot on my smart phone, which is also True 4G. I don't know why I ever thought the True Router would be any better than my True SIM phone. It wasn't.

Next step was to try the competition. I bought an AIS router with a new SIM and it was a great improvement on the True bollix. The AIS router is still so new that we haven't yet had our first bill.

Then out of the blue, a week after getting the new router, a 3BB truck pulled up at the gate and asked if we wanted cable. We said yes and signed a piece of paper. Sufficient of our neighbours signed up and we were on a promise. A couple of weeks passed then at 11 a.m. today the gf called and said they'd be installing the box at midday. I laughed, there is no cable in the street, but if they want to give us the box that's fine.

Maybe this should be in Harry's mysterious Thailand thread. About 1130 a 3BB truck appeared and a couple of blokes went up ladders stringing cable along the electricity posts. An hour later they were up the electricity post in my garden pulling cable over the road and into my house, through the loft and down into the lounge. By 1330 the tv and the wifi were up and running and the blokes were gone.

Here we are now, posting on TD at 55Mbps up and down. For the same price as the rubbish True router which regularly fell below 2 Mbps.

Now I can think about that PulseTV box that PAG recommended.

Excellent!
