Sorry folks, Mosman is a suburb of Sydney whch I consider as my home town. I was interupted when I posted the above.
I got to say that I really did enjoy that time in my life. At 17 you are adult yet without the responsibilities that being adult brings. Well for me anyway.
I was very fortunate to grow up in Sydney I think though I wouldnt want to live there now. Most every Friday night was spent drinking in the Lochinvar Lounge in the Mosman Hotel at Spit Junction and never a thought was given as to how you would get there or get home. You simply drove. Drink drive laws were just being introduced at that time.
I remember drinking after footie (Rugby) almost every Tuesday afternoon with my teacher, Mr Trent, or Gronk, as he was affectionately known, in the public bar at The Mosman. This was at a time when women were still not allowed in that bar.
It would not be understood in the same way now but I was afforded the respect of a grown up by Gronk and I dont think for a minute that he was ever, in any way, condascending toward me. He treated me as an equal and I think that is why it is so easy for me to see our Ice Maiden in a similar light today.
Sure, she is seventeen but she has a very mature approach to all the issues that I have discussed with her. There have been many. I respect her opinion and am glad that while she is able to mix it with us oldies she still retains her youthful exuberance.
Last night I mentioned to her that I had copped some flak in defending her right to post because she is yet under the designated age in American law (where we are hosted) and her response to me was that she will undertake to not post until her birthday in April. Such is how she values this community.
I suggested that we get her a new nik and lie about her age but she wernt having that either. Saying that telling lies is against her principles.
Can you see now why I value her as a person?

I continued to drink at The Lochinvar Lounge in The Mosman Hotel all that seventeenth year of my life which culminated in a 'lock in' on October 5 when I turned 18. The landlord knew I was underage and was only to happy to accommodate me and my peer because we were becoming adults and were filled with new ideas and had a lust for life.
No harm ever came from it other than the most grotesque hangover that I have ever had, which occured on the day that I was 18 years and 1 day old.
Being seventeen was fantastic for me and I shall always remember those days fondly.
What about your transition from kid to adult? Surely you too can remember finally being accepted as a responsible citizen.
I would love to read your account.

I can recognise Mark Richards in that shot Wal. Fokking famous dude. Anyone remember a bloke called Twizzle? Twizzle, aka The Rubber Man, taught me how to 360 and all manner of tricks on a wave.

You tell me Wal but I also remember being so drunk at the wheel of Urge that I actually fell out of the car and onto the roadway from Urge one night. The door handles wenrt perfect then. My mate Geoff Lowe grabbed the keys out of the ignition and wouldnt allow me to drive any more that night. Good man was Geoff. I stayed the night in his garage. That was me being 17.
