What were you like when you were 17

When I was 17 I was fairly quiet lad. I was 17 stone and played a bit of rugby. I smoked a lot of dope but otherwise I wasn't confident in anything.

I had fairly hot g/f though who was also very insecure.

I learnt to drive and that was about it

And I lost my virginity as well.

I didn't become wild until I was 18 then all hell started to break loose

Admitedly when I was 16 I was charged with possession with intent to supply and conspiracy to supply a controlled substance but I was let off. When I was 15 I got nicked trying to blow up a kilo of fertilizer in the middle of a street where we lived.

But when I was 17 I was in love and very quiet.

Same same, I dont believe it. I was even heavy as well. My girlfriend was younger than I, but I could drive and had a car. 17 years and 9 months I went nuts. Graduated high school. Packed up my car. Move to Lake Tahoe Ca. To live in parachutes and tents, take copius amounts of illegal things and chase rich Catholic pussy. A great life lost 14 kilos as well.
Then came uni, and even a nuttier time, I discovered ALCOHOL big time.

    Same same my old friend.

18 onwards the chemicals went in the beer went in and the pockets started to fatten as if by magic slowly at first but more as time went on.

Wish they were fat these days though.

Mr Owsley had entered my life by the age of 18 as well. I enjoyed meeting him. More than a few times.

At a few months before I turned 16 (1967) I got busted with a QP of weed. This made the radio stations and newspapers in a not small town in the East Bay. Got probabtion and a few days in JH. upon my release I took off on my own. Ate my meals sitin' a poolhall stool. Made my livin after dark. Shootin' crankby night and smokin dope by day. I never drank alcohol. evil stuff.
After afew months on the streets I learned to Burglarize and beat alarms, open simple safes, knew what where the valuable goods to lift from shops. I knew where to fence anything and I could get you anything your little heart desired. I had my skinny little fingers in every pie I could find.
Sixteen years old 6 ft tall, 130 lbs; there I was, at a Country Joe and the fish concert, wired-up 4 days straight hangin out with my sweetie, you know the type, from a very nice family?
A cop that knew me and knew that i didn;t own a 56 chevy belair gaffed me up and shook me down. The car belonged to some dude on vacation, (it would a been sold for parts the next day) in my pockets the cops found a couple T's of crank, an outfit and a few loose joints. Took me to the station called my parents (hadn't seen 'em in months). they got me out and...
I hit the streets again. Caugth again three weeks, or so, later. Ok, this time I was locked up and given 6 months on an honor farm. I walked away the first week.
They caught me and sent me to to the kiddies joint called CYA. for "observation' lessee... Six or seven fights, possession of a knife, some drug dealing in the joint... I was sent away for a good long time. At 17 years old I was bench-pressing 295 lbs & squatting with 550, walkin the line. The staff there considered me one of the hard-core lifers. Not much changed, until one day I woke up in jail had to march to chow. got to thinking how pathetic my life was and that I wasn't a 'career criminal' but I was becoming a "career convict" I was 24 years old.
    Things changed after that.

I'm raised in a very poor family. I was studying and working to pay the fee when I was 17.

As usual frisco has blown me away with honest approach to his life and this forum with an excellent account of his formative years.
I also gotta say that I am well impressed wth Mrs Q posting this thread coz I wish I had thought of it.

When I was seventeen I was just finishing school and spent most of my days truant at the beach surfing. Partying was what we all did back then and I got to say that I had a ball.
I had just learned to drive and my brother (not Crackerjack, the other one) gave me a car that I called 'Urge'. It was a Wolesly1500(sp) and had a MGB engine that was so powerful that it would just break the drive axels if I accelerated from stop too quickly.
I was a surfer as opposed to a surfee which was very important back then. I dressed in Levi 501's and raglan sleeve T-shirts with a chest pocket. A sloppy joe (like the top I am wearing in the pic below) was allowed in winter.
My peer and I lived for the beach and the lifestyle.

I had several girlfiends during that period and lost my virginity to the Captain of Cremorne Girls High School in the back seat of Urge.

It sure was a great time in my life and I never actually finished school coz I got caught smoking dope in the 6th form room. I was told that I could finish school but would not be allowed sit the Higher School Certificate.
I wernt a bad kid. A bit of a rebel but I had another agenda.

I remember those Wolseley 1500s. The back axle was from the Minor 1000 range and was just about strong enough for the standard 1500 engine. Lucky that the half shafts were so easy to change.

Yeah. I changed umpteen axel splines. It got to a point were I had to carry two spare axels in the boot.
