I lived in Manila for about 7 years before moving 50 miles south. Now, after 14 years here in my quiet backwater, I never go to Manila unless I absolutely have to (like a passport renewal trip to the Embassy); haven't been there for about two or three years now - when I do go, I can't believe I ever lived in that polluted, expensive, traffic hell.
