I guess I have been lucky, the only times I have had to pay the cops was when I had crossed the line, rightly so. Never been turned over by them.
I didn't vote because it was just about two years ago. Our new car still had the red plates and book that goes along with it. We were driving through Khon Kaen. The policeman looked at the book and told us we were supposed to record in the book every trip outside of our home province.
He asked me if I liked whiskey and told me that he liked whiskey and would I give him 100 baht to buy some. We did and drove on.
That was the one and only time.
I was on my way to Ayutthaya to give my builder some money, when the BiB stopped me on the tollway near Future Park (Rangsit). I was doing 120kph in an 80 zone, so fair enough.
Still pissed off with being too gutless to get the fine down to a more reasonable level.![]()
They have had 800 baht off me in the last 12 months.
Never been asked. Got stopped lots of times, where licence? where tax? - mai mi boss. Ok not do again, have nice day![]()
Korat - Udon Thani, stopped twice, paid the first as i was long time driving on the rigth side... ( 200 or 300 Thb can't remember...)
Not paid the second, same reason, could not understand what he wanted with his finger language showing me 4 fingers and telling me 3 hundred,
thank you bye
Usually it would happen every couple of months but hasnt happened for a while now.. I wonder why...
Had money go out of my bag either in a bar before I went before going to walking st or in walking st.Found out next morning when I went bag, manager of hotel said me to go to police .Went and saw lady detective and she said go back to hotel and get your insurance.Did that and went back and saw her and she said her boss wants to make a report. She did a brief report then another copper wrote it out in thai charged my 100 baht and said if come back at 3pm and translator will be here and do in english for 500 baht. Then boss comes any says to me I think your money went in bar, tonight when I am finished I come and look with 3 other you will have to give money and money for drinks.I said I would see him at 3 when I came back for translator.Went back to hotel and read insurance and it said money lost or stolen they will only pay $200.Never went back to police
Last and only time I didn't do anything wrong was 6 or seven years ago - but paid many times for minor traffic violations, and been stopped for papers and even a body search many times.
Last time I was let off having no papers and not wearing a helmet - guy knew the missus.
FUCK the police.
that reminds me - did CMN ever find out how much for a policeman?
I was fined 500 for NOT carrying my passport by the regular fuzz in Rangsit just over a year ago. Some say its law that is should be carried at all times?Originally Posted by Little Chuchok
I have no problems paying the on the spot fines for driving offenses, whats the big deal?
Always makes me laugh to hear people complain about the cops here, just think what would happen back in your own country, mine being the UK, what happens when you are caught jumping a red or speeding back there? Jeez.
five-and-a-half years, never had to pay a satang.
That's right. Corruption. It works for me!Originally Posted by Lek Lek
It technically is law but is only enforced when the officer in question wants to buy a new rice cooker.
I've never been in trouble with any police anywhere but I have never heard any positive stories about them.
Very few people who join the police do it because they want to serve and protect.

The law states you must carry id, passport serves as id, us English Gentlemen don't have id cards in our country, so basically we got the choice of passport or driving license, thats if the license has a picture.Originally Posted by Spin
I always have my UK Driving licence. Never had a problemo.
Use my pukka Thai motorcy license.
