When was the last time you had to bribe a policeman?

How long ago was it when you last had to bribe a Thai policeman for an imagined infraction of the law, ie you have done no wrong but the cop still wants some money.

I guess I have been lucky, the only times I have had to pay the cops was when I had crossed the line, rightly so. Never been turned over by them.

I didn't vote because it was just about two years ago. Our new car still had the red plates and book that goes along with it. We were driving through Khon Kaen. The policeman looked at the book and told us we were supposed to record in the book every trip outside of our home province.

He asked me if I liked whiskey and told me that he liked whiskey and would I give him 100 baht to buy some. We did and drove on.

That was the one and only time.

I was on my way to Ayutthaya to give my builder some money, when the BiB stopped me on the tollway near Future Park (Rangsit). I was doing 120kph in an 80 zone, so fair enough.

Still pissed off with being too gutless to get the fine down to a more reasonable level.

Last and only time I didn't do anything wrong was 6 or seven years ago - but paid many times for minor traffic violations, and been stopped for papers and even a body search many times.
Last time I was let off having no papers and not wearing a helmet - guy knew the missus.

According to the old immigration web site that they had up a few years ago, they stated that the only people that can demand a copy of your passport is the Immigration Police.....The can ask for ID though.

I have no problems paying the on the spot fines for driving offenses, whats the big deal?
Always makes me laugh to hear people complain about the cops here, just think what would happen back in your own country, mine being the UK, what happens when you are caught jumping a red or speeding back there? Jeez.

It technically is law but is only enforced when the officer in question wants to buy a new rice cooker.

I've never been in trouble with any police anywhere but I have never heard any positive stories about them.

Very few people who join the police do it because they want to serve and protect.

The law states you must carry id, passport serves as id, us English Gentlemen don't have id cards in our country, so basically we got the choice of passport or driving license, thats if the license has a picture.

I would sooner pay a fine and have my passort locked in my safe than carry it on me
