180baht to make an ATM withdraw

When the fuck and why the fuck did this happen. I just had the biggest hissy fit at the ATM and then proceeded into the bank to make my feelings known. What an utter laugh this country has at our expense. I know 30baht is not much but it is the principle God dam it !

They literally are making up for the loss of tourist $ due to the protests, quite literally this is what they are doing.

The thieving foreign bastards! getting on for four quid. So with the thieving bastards back home taking their cut if you took 100 quid out you would get about 93 pound odd just for taking your own money out. nationwide charge 2 quid plus one percent now and to think not so long ago it was all 'free'.

Course you can go in the bank and take money out with your card with no charge, right good luck with that one! I transfer six months at a time, still 25 quid.

I have an HSBC premier card which used to be fee free from HSBC and if I went to the now closed HSBC ATM in Sathorn I would get it fee free as well. Now the HSBC money laundering cun&ts are charging me 10pounds per 20 000 baht I take out and I am obviously getting hit with 180baht this end as HSbullshitcun9ts have closed down their ATM and commercial banking operations in Thailand because the Thai's are so patriotic they won't give a thing back to a foreign country. the banks know this.

I had been using AEON ATMs for withdrawing cash with no charge. Last month, they started charging 150 baht and limiting withdrawals to 20,000 B.

I withdrew some cash from an account in the States- it was about $1000 (~30K baht) but the machine would only give me a max of 10K per transaction, so it cost me 540 baht- I found it kind of annoying to say the least, but I didn't pitch a 'hissy fit', large or otherwise...

even though that ATM would let you take out 40K baht at a time the exchange rate was very bad so it was not worth it

always use the bangkok bank ATMs to take out 25k at a time

but the cnuts are taking the piss now - 180 baht - 6USD per transaction on top of the transaction fee the western bank is charging

fcuking roll on bitcoin or something

will need to open another Thai ATM account now and just transfer via OzForex

ATMs do cost money to make and to run , and to get filled up , so you must expect a small charge to use them .

Surely you are aware that if you go in to the counter and do a credit card cash advance it will cost you nothing on the Thai side...

Personally I just wire funds over as needed. One time fee for the wire transfer is certainly a lot less than hitting up Thai atms day after day...

I love freebies and besides I don't own a credit card nor will I ever by choice.

This whole thread is about the principle of the dam thing, I couldn't give a toss about 30baht, it is the principle.

They apparently now charge Bt153 Per travellers cheque as well.

    Cash is king lads.

Travelers bringing foreign currency more than USD 20,000 or its equivalent into or out of Thailand are required to make a report to Customs. This report is required by the “Ministerial Regulation (No. 25) B.E. 2530 issued under the Authority of the Currency Exchange Control Act B.E. 2485 and relevant regulations.

Yeah they do in some places, 20baht I think.

In Thailand, there is no fee for domestic same-bank same-province transaction. However, customers usually pay for ATM annual fee of THB200, one-off card fee of THB100 and convenience fee for withdrawal or balance inquiry at other bank ATM or at a province other than the province where the account is opened. On September 23, 2010, Bank of Thailand (BOT) has announced ATM fee ceiling framework which came into full effect one year later.[18] Most of the banks will allow customer to have four withdrawal or balance inquiry transactions for free provided that the ATM is located in the same province with the account, then charges up to THB10 per transaction for interbank same-province ATM usage. Inter-provincial fund transfer or withdrawal fees are capped at THB20 per transaction as a result of BOT 2010 reform. However, Banks are now pushing for high annual fee card by combining personal assurance (PA) into their cards. The annual fee of PA card can be more than three times for the ordinary card (typically THB200 for a debit card). Many customers are often told that basic cards have run out off stock and they can only choose the PA card. In some cases, customers are not allowed to open an account if he or she is not willing to subscribe to ATM service and pay the card fees.
For foreign card, the standard fee is 150 THB. However, there's an exception on the ATMs from AEON (Financial Service company) that will not charge the additional fee on the foreign card.
