He's arguably England's greatest ever batsman.
He's struggled with the new emphasis on attacking play, because he really needed to change next to nothing.
Hopefully he's now over it.
Plus, if Root isn't consistent enough then at least two other batsmen should be dropped with him.
Maybe there's some talent amongst the Barmy Army.

Root has spent over a year in the wilderness trying to work out how to fit in to Stokes' team and he already had the solution, just do what you always do. He stands a chance of clearing 14-15k test runs and i hope he is selfish enough to try for that target, if he does Eng will be in a better pkace for it.
Well that's sorted, then.
3 of the 4 people who have a scooby have agreed.![]()
I'll be back after a few series with an "I told you so" then.
* Especially since we only have the bacon sarnies and SL to cope with.
^ Erm it's the Windies and Lanka summer/autumn, pak is that Mickie mouse game and I'm not sure root will be playing that?
What's this two runs per over crap?

Aussie absolutely demolishing the Black Caps.
So, is it time for Cameron Bancroft?
Smith's failures as an opener seem worse because he can't salvage the situation at number four.
And now Khawaja very nearly chops on too.
My mate's off to the India v England 5th test and flies out tomorrow.
He's paid the princely sum of 12 quid for the whole 5 days.

Indian train drivers in fatal accident watched cricket on mobile
OF
Karen Nielsen
In October last year, a passenger train ran into another passenger train in the Indian state of Andhra Pradash. 14 people lost their lives and more than 50 were injured.
India's Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, told the Times of India that the two train drivers in the rear train were watching cricket on a mobile phone when the accident happened.
The minister said safety systems were now being installed "to detect if train drivers are inattentive."
Both drivers lost their lives in the accident. The final report from the Accident Investigation Commission has not yet been published, writes the Times of India.
