Well, perhaps, maybe, alright it's true! It's weird really as even though the Irish, Scots and Welsh often love watching England lose (football, rugby, etc), I don't feel the same way, and I like them to win, but the Convicts, I don't know what it is, but I love to see them getting a large one up the blurter!

Sorry about the thinking like a Thai jibe Bb, that was below the belt.
And I do appreciate your honesty, especially regarding your joy at seeing us convicts being beaten.
But far from being offended by that attitude, we treat it as a compliment.
Think about it, the country who invented the game resenting the lowly convicts down under.
Why is that so ? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..................................

..............."the Irish, Scots and Welsh often love watching England lose"..............

Having had an Irish father and a Welsh mother I can well understand why they think that way about England.

That's a fair point. The Convicts have done well in sport over the years. On a similar score, today, even though I like the Cheating Kiwi Bastards, and don't really get upset when they win anything (usually rugby related although they have a good cricket team nowadays), it's enjoyable to watch their rugby teams lose, so I'll be supporting the Force today - even though they'll be beaten by 30+ points.

As an aussie I really love it when the Poms are strong and winning games as they are so important to the health of world cricket no matter the type of cricket being played.

For instance sake back in 90's Ashes cricket lost its lustre and the short version of the game was the most watched version of cricket.

I am so happy now as the Kiwis are building a good test cricket side and the Poms also have a strong young team. India, South Africa and others will always be competitive especially when playing at home.

Not to mention the Aussies are still yet to prove themselves as being the real Number 1.

Cricket as a global sport is getting stronger every year.

The exhilarating thud of leather on willow...at the football cathedrals of the Bernabéu and the Camp Nou. Attracted by huge global audiences for cricket, club bosses at Real Madrid and Barcelona are planning to launch professional cricket teams “in the near future”, according to a source close to AS, though they are yet to decide in which competition their XIs would play.

The idea of Real Madrid clashing with Barcelona in Cricket Clásicos, or Cricketos as they will be marketed, is seen as a way to massively increase the global appeal of both clubs, with the summer sport having the second biggest worldwide audience after football itself.

Good post Bb, but not sure how the Welsh/Irish thing come about.
As far as "the Cheating Kiwi Bastards" goes I don't mind them, might have something to do with the ANZAC tradition, and the fact that I admire their fighting spirit.
And I do appreciate your acknowledgement that the convicts have done well in sports.

Thought by now there would have been a few comments on the final, congratulating the West Indies on a great win etc.
They got the double, beating the convicts as well in the Womens' T20 final.
First story I saw in the Australian news was all about Ben Stokes -
"Cricket world rallies around shattered English star Ben Stokes"
Barely a mention of the fact that the WI had won the World Cup !

Good to see the WI win both titles, hope their Test side rises to their best.
Bad luck England, but you did well to get to the final.

As an Aussie, I well remember the WI's at their best when they used to flog us on a regular basis.

In fairness we've improved since March 16th; they beat us by 6 wickets that day.

Hopefully this win, will spur on more Windies youngsters to take up the game.

We would all be better off if they were stronger.

    Yep.

The WI at their best are world beaters and great for the game.

Nice to see the Kiwi ring-in get hammered around the ground.

And now it seems that everyone feels sorry for him.

Now now Bb, I think you are being a bit hard on the boy.
Have you not seen the news ? Everyone (except the WI) feels sorry for him and are offering their support and sympathy.

    Dear oh dear.
I remember comments like that used to circulate in the seventies, along with how the West Indians were destroying the game with over rates as low as 17 an hour.

Mark Nicholas is an embarrassment. Underachieving player, unobservant commentator. Seems to offer nothing except I assume a certain appeal for housewives and metrosexuals. The only thing that can be said for him is that he knows which side his bread is buttered and so like Geoff Boycott he loves to suck up to the Indian team.

Yes, he does suck up to the Indians -

"The T20 World Cup begins in a minute. It is an easy tournament to predict. On the evidence that no one plays so well away from home these days, India will win. The last two 50-over World Cups have been won by the home team, a result hitherto unachieved. It's all about home, and home is where a billion people's hearts will be over the next month. Sensible heads from all over the world will be there too, all thinking the same thing. India to win."

And he cannot resist any opportunity to stick it to the Australians -

"India were brilliant in Australia, against the Australian 2nd XI that is. Smashed them Aussies 3-0. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli out-batted the second-string attack. MS Dhoni engaged wholly. Of course he did, the treasures before him are irresistible. He won the World Cup in 2011 and its little brother would make a glorious addition to the CV. What a cricketer this man is. The ballsiest run chaser ever - Michael Bevan included, though it is a tight call - and the most ballistic too, on his day. He does stuff others dream about."

Oops, wrong picture... I'm going for a sitdown and cry. I watched that at nearly 3pm this morning, it was all looking good, some great bowling, then I had to watch those 4 balls - I couldn't sleep after.
