You are like November Rain - far too kind, I'm sure that won't be necessary, I'm going to Lotus today so I will look for baking powder - I just hope it'll be in English or i'll have to take and post photos of everything that looks like it could be baking powder and i'll try not to get nabbed by security.

I hope the Atora will be ok, it's still boxed and bagged and I don't think I'm supposed to refrigerate it.

Would you like one of my boxes of Atora in return? I only asked for one and my mate brough over two - I'm only here for 45 more days!

I never realized my fancy for dumplings could ignite such a united relief effort.

I'm sure I've been here before...... must be Deja Vu

GS, keep the suet in the fridge, it comes to no harm even if you have opened a packet, the worse thing that happens is that it sticks together so you have to re-crumble it with your fingers when you need it, I still have four boxes in my fridge and after a year they are Ok.

I have used two boxes in vain trying to make dumplings that I could whip up in a matter of minutes in the UK, using SR flour of course. I've tried all sorts of different measures of baking soda and salt, and am yet to be anything like satisfied with the results.

I'm coming to the conclusion that baking soda is for just that, baking, it causes the dough to rise as the heat starts to remove moisture from the mix, but when you put your mixture into a pan of stew, you just end up with a soggy mess that tastes fizzy.

'jizzy' = sperm. 'bloke' = man; sperm man, you seem to find it very difficult to communicate without dropping hints of your hidden sexuality. I'm guessing you work with men, in a masculine environment.

A gay king without any doubt.

Still got two boxes of Atora - now in my fridge - I guess i'll have to grate the stuff if I ever get round to using it.

Here's how my flour shop went.

    Doh!

    Doh!

    Doh!

    Doh!

Jeez, the first two are the same but for a subtle difference in the packet design, still no SR from dear NR but I have no use for these, hey perhaps we could swap NR?

Then you can say that Scampy sent you flours.

Cooks.com - Recipe - To Make Self Rising Flour

FFS Scampi. Check out this link and stop stuffing around.

The yeast will be past it's used by date, before you get around to using it. And I think it has a shelf life of 2 years or so.

Gus, my dear fellow - I appreciate that but it shouldn't be that complicated.

If I need to make the flour I may as well pluck my own chickens and build my own pot.

Did you get the baking powder ? as NR said just add a teaspoon to each cup of flour but sift or mix it well into the flour to distribute evenly through. An important thing with BP & BS is to cook or bake it straight away, if you leave it the mixture will rise because it reacts with moisture and then it will go flat.

A bit about the difference between baking soda and powder.

It tastes Fizzy because you are using baking Soda, baking powder is neutral in taste.

Young Scampi, you Pratt, what's so hard about looking a little bit further in the supermarket and finding baking powder.

It's a" Best Foods" product that is made in Thailand, so it is in most shops that sell flour, usually on the same shelf.

And by the way, yes, I have before had to pluck my own chickens and even made cooking pots from tin cans. It aint that difficult.

But the utility management consultant has just fucking showed some interest for the first time in 6 weeks so I have to leave them bubbling and go meet her.
