Well done. Burwash it is. Lovely place and beautifully maintained. Going inside you expect to see Kipling turn the corner. Well worth a visit if you're ever in the area.
The home of Rudyard Kipling from 1902–36, the interior of this beautiful Jacobean house reflects the author’s strong associations with the East. There are many Oriental rugs and artefacts, and most of the rooms – including his book-lined study – are much as Kipling left them. The delightful grounds run down to the small River Dudwell, where there is a watermill, and contain roses, wild flowers and herbs. Kipling’s Rolls-Royce is also on display
I nearly went with the engineer question but thought it would be a bit harsh.
In 1922, Kipling, who had made reference to the work of engineers in some of his poems and writings, was asked by a University of Toronto civil engineering professor for his assistance in developing a dignified obligation and ceremony for graduating engineering students. Kipling was very enthusiastic in his response and shortly produced both, formally entitled "The Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer". Today, engineering graduates all across Canada are presented with an iron ring at the ceremony as a reminder of their obligation to society.[39] The same year Kipling became Lord Rector of St Andrews University in Scotland, a position which ended in 1925.
I was lucky to get the county first try.
I thought it was Sussex or further west
And the clues?
