Nanjing {Nanking}

Nanjing {Nanking}
nope Not Nanjing

^ Damn Damn Damn!! I Give Up............
I always thought Gunagzhou in Guangdong (Canton) was the main opium/tea trading port?
?????????????was the port of trade first used by Europeans (mainly the Portuguese) in 1541. It was China's main port in the nineteenth century for exporting tea.
And the opium trade was after the first Opium war after the chinese were forced to trade through European trading houses. Maybe I should have said Opium smuggling ! ( sorry )

Forgive us Hap.....Xiamen.![]()
Well done !
Fantastic place - lived there for 9 months - the old French consulate is a tea house now - the British a restaurant - the Portugese is (Ahem!) a bar /knocking shop !!!!
Well it was in 1992!!
Xaimen was called AMOY by the Brits - after the local dialect spoken there.
Those thin bricks are "Amoy" bricks ' cos thats where they came from. The Brits exported them all over the East to build their consulates etc etc .i
Your turn !!
