Bangkok - Many passengers left stranded at Hua Lampong

Many passengers left stranded at Hua Lampong

Many passengers were left stranded at the Hua Lampong Bankok railway station Monday morning after train workers went on strike nationwide against the operation reform plan.

The passengers said the strike caught them off guard.

Many said they would wait at Hua Lampong until the trains resume services but several heeded advice of station officials to turn to use bus services instead.

TD member Cimboc called me this morning for direction to thonburi railway station as he and a mate wanted to go to kanchanupburi.

10 minutes later he calls me back and says the taxi driver told him it was closed. I told him don't be stupid - that's the oldest trick in the book by taxi drivers saying that something is closed so tell him to take you anyway.

20 minutes later he tells me they are there and it is indeed closed and how does he get to the southern bus terminal. Who would have thunk it - a taxi driver who was telling the truth!
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

Had a taxi driver last night tell us that he had been driving a taxi for three years without a license. We asked if he was afraid of the Police, he said no and before the taxi he had another driving job!

I wonder how many tourist dollars are going be lost, I know many like to do the overnight sleeper both up north and down south as it is reasonably cheap and a bit of an adventure.

A little bit of inconveience for everyone for a time. Strikers probably have a legitimate beef. Good for them.

They may well have a legitimate beef but to hold a nationwide strike without prior notice is probably not the right way to go about it.

Strike costs SRT 30 million baht

Strike costs SRT 30 million baht

    By: BangkokPost.com
    Published: 23/06/2009 at 05:43 PM

The two-day rail strike cost the State Railway of Thailand about 30 million baht in lost revenue, SRT governor Yuthana Thapcharoen said.

Mr Yuthana said the SRT had to refund passengers 18 million baht for worthless tickets and the halting of freight trains caused a loss of 12 million baht in revenue.

The SRT governor said the delay in the implementation of the restructuring plan because of the rail strike until a review of it had been completed will obstruct the progress of several projects, particularly the Airport Link, which was scheduled to begin a trial run from Dec 5.

well cos i was on the net in MBK, wasting time till my 14.45 train to leave, i had fair warning from dirtydog here. but i did begin to wonder if i would ever get a full refund, as asian's dont really think like we do [take group photo's of dead people comes to mind.] but thankfully i did receive a full refund, although the newscamera men took me by suprise and i made a tit of myself on tape. lets hope they choose not to show it to the rest of Thailand on the news.

the only people in the train station that really get on my wick are the 'helping' people who direct you to ticket counter one. really pisses me off, so i guess thats why i was still angry when talking to the news people.

anyway, i had a bloody long bus ride and arrived in had yai at stupid o'clock in the morning, 4.30 am to be presice, and then had to wait till 8.45 for my bus to KL, which broke down twice and finally arrived at 19.40pm tonight.

with bloodshot eyes, i feel shit, but that beer sure tastes good.

think i'll take a plane instead next time
