Abrupt end of Suan Peung resort

The legendary Suan Peung resort, the biggest resort in Suan Peung district of Ratchaburi, is now being demolished after the Treasury Department cancelled the land lease contract with the resort operator for violating the contract.

The department has discovered that the resort owned by Pol Col Kowit Muangnuan, former immigration chief of Samut Sakhon, and his wife, Mrs Sudathip, had encroached on about 10 rai of land next to the land it rented from the department.

Also, the resort built a weir to block water from a creek for its own use causing hardship to many people downstream who have been deprived of the water source.

The department scrapped the lease contract and notified the resort operator to demolish all construction structures on the 200 rai land plot in 90 days and to restore the land to its natural condition.

Any members ever visited the 'legendary' Suan Peung resort before? Looks like a real eye sore.

Really good to see they are getting serious with this stuff.

The next places is Koh Tao where many structures and businesses have been built with zero papers.

The report in the local Rag recons 50 % will go , mainly on the mountain and resorts built outside approved building zones.

Jesus, I'd like to be there to see that go down.

Many of the legal local people will be celebrating big time that day. Big business coming their way.

Further more, the report said well located land has been changing hands at 30 million baht a Rai.

    Massive money right there huh.

It is a beautiful part of the country, and the further towards the border one goes, the better it gets. Crowded with BKK Thais at weekends, it is better during the week.

I have driven past that resort, and it certainly is an eyesore, as are a few others. There seems to be little in the way of planning regulations that ensures that the architecture is in harmony with the surroundings.
