There was that German guy who ate that other guy , so the German guy who got attacked in this story deserved to be attacked because he was a cannibal .

Had the punks been using cannabis or opium instead of alcohol and yaba this likely never would've happened.

Surely some "dirty harry" "judge dredd" style police hit squads could be organised to take care of business like in the good old days.

And if you were one of those innocent apes, would you argue the same proposition?

Prison or death is too kind for these types.
They should just take them out the back for a quick and cheap lobotomy and let their family rue the consequences of raising little Thai princes in such a manner.

Is it because Thais are higher up in your estimations than Burmese?
The childish / innocent look of the Burmese was used as supporting evidence by the TD defense several times on the koh tao thread , there was even a photo of one holding a stuffed toy, a duck I think.

I'm eager for the case to be solved.

World wide, immigrants commit a disproportionate amount of the crime , so the police were right to profile suspects like they did ..

Yes, supporting evidence , the main evidence were the facts , with a P.S. They dont look like killers, whereas the Thai guys do

The Thai haters do not like it when this is bought up but have a look at crime in America or Australia.
So what is the crime rate of American or Australian nationals assaulting foreign tourists?

Not a good comparison of crimes against foreigners in Thailand measured against the overall crime rates in the west...

I live in Udon thani amongst Thai people, I mean not in a farang enclave the people are generally friendly but then again what ever it takes to blend in, I certainly don't go around antagonizing them.
I feel comfortable here but I do stay away from the scumbags Thai and Western.

Attacks upon farang, despite foolish idiocy expressed by the usual suspects on this board, are quite common in Thailand. Many go unreported. The common theme is that the Thai, their lower classes in particular which account for the greatest proportion of their population, do not see a problem here since it is common currency among them that farang are responsible for everything that goes wrong.

The General citing pretty bikini wearers is a case in point.

Thai racism, and thuggery based on it, is endemic here.

So you consider comparing Thailand with your home town in terms of homicide stats to be a sound statistical approach?

Thegent has used the " Crimes go unreported " quote quite a few times in threads like this.

Its quite silly really, if a crime is not reported it has not happened as far as the statistics go.

Further more, Fluke is on the money with his reply.

    Look, it's like this,

I am not supporting the Thais who commit crime same as I do not support any nationality that commits crime.

But to get all bent and twisted out of shape when crime does get perpetrated on Farang in Thailand only gives the neigh Sayers something to hang their coat on.

I suppose a fair question would be,

Do you feel safer in Thailand or your home country ?

I for one feel much safer banging around Thailand than Australia no question about that.

Mate, you must of grown up in a very small country town , not to many people can claim to not having some serious crime go down in their town at one time or another.

We need to get real here and realize that their are real sick fukers in this world and in every country, one can only hope one does not run into them.

Jesus, the chances of getting attacked by a few fuk ups high on Ya Ba who want to cut your head off with a hoes are quite small don't you think ?

I mean if you are just minding your own business shit should not come your way but on the other hand if you are involved in an altercation with the locals the chances are high you could be seriously hurt or killed.

Just don't get in any shit, its not hard if one is just a normal punter.

We read all the time of the constant stream of farang who get in the shit down in Pattaya.

It only happens simply because most are pissed up wankers getting themselves in the shit.

This lot I simply could not give a fuk about.

Mate, Google up " Ivan Millat Australian " you will like reading that.

Believe it not, Australia has seen some very serious crime comitted against Backpackers, quite a few killed.

Assaults on Backpackers and locals alike in my home town of Perth is quite alarming, certainly need to be on your toes if contemplating traveling Australia.

Fuked if I'd be wandering around Perth at night time but in Bangkok Its never a problem for me.

In my home town of Fremantle one would be mad to bang around there at night unless with a group of mates for security.

    Just a comparison that's all.

I have seen several incidents where a farang has been attacked by young Thai men as punishment for some imaginary slight. They weren't reported to the police but from the victim's perspective I rather think it was a crime.

Terry, 4000 murders a year in Thailand, 400 in Australia.

Work out the significance for yourself, if you can, which I doubt.

It's a violent society in which thuggery, brutal intimidation and lawlessness are endemic. Or do you actually believe in their inherent gentleness, charm and boundless courtesy?

Crudity, stupidity and profound ignorance are the drivers here in their society and the statistics speak for themselves.

Indeed, violence is always the first port of call for inadequate feral males suckled for too long on their mothers forgiving teat when they find themselves overwhelmed with situations and emotions far beyond their comprehension.

In fact lower class Thai males could well be the elusive missing link, the holy grail so beloved of anthropologists.

It's apparent that there are big differences in the perception of Thai people, depending on where you come from, where you live now, and the experiences you have had elsewhere in the country.
Even Bangkok can be divided, based on expat perceptions and the contributions they make to the local community.
Don't think there is a common denominator from either point of view, other than to say that Thai society has developed differently to the places most of us come from.
people will find that refreshing, or annoying, or a combination of both.
