Tourists won't stop going to Thailand as the majority are deluded backpackers looking for "The Beach Experience" or horny sex tourists who can't get a ride in their own country so use Thailand for an annual pilgrimage of sex.

I guess the end result depends on how corrupt or influenced the judges are....they are the interface between corruption and law itself.

    Not holding my breath though.

Koh Tao Murders: Newspaper Apologizes for Implicating Official’s Son

BANGKOK — A Thai newspaper today published an apology for its coverage of the investigation into the murders of two British travelers in September on Koh Tao.

Khaosod newspaper apologized for two headlines suggesting the Warot Toovichian, the son of a village chief on Koh Tao, was responsible for the savage murders of British tourists David Miller and Hannah Witheridge on the island.

The newspaper also accused Warot, 22, of being the son of local “mafia” in two articles published on 24 and 25 Sept.

“We have verified facts and discovered that the aforementioned news items were inaccurate,” a statement published in today’s newspaper read.

In the statement published today, Khaosod said it was publicly apologizing as part of a settlement agreement with Warot, who filed a libel suit against the paper over its coverage.

It added the newspaper paid compensation of an undisclosed amount to Warot’s family.

That's the problem with Thai laws, even if it's true it's still considered libel.

Well we know they swabbed limpy, lead copper said in court he hadn't seen those results bringing this kids name into a trial he's not named in.

If he is "innocent" I believe there would be many more way to prove it. The killers, whoever they are need to be put down.

    Trial resumed today:

DNA retaken from the suspects in front of the court.

DNA Re-Taken In Court During Hannah Witheridge Murder Trial

    By Dave Paramore, 18th August 2015, 08:06

The two men charged with murdering University of Essex student Hannah Witheridge in Thailand have had their DNA re-taken in court.

The trial of Zaw Lin and Wei Phyo, who deny the charges against them, has resumed overnight.

The move was initiated by their defence team who are keen to have all DNA samples re-tested as DNA evidence linking the two Burmese migrants to the murders of 23 year-old Hannah and fellow backpacker David Miller from Jersey, is key to the trial.

It followed testimony by a police officer who took DNA from the two men admitted a number of errors and said he had only ever taken samples in training before.

Sarah McBride, who is in court for Heart, said: "They (the defence team) have been pushing for re-tests of the DNA. Originally they were told there wasn't any DNA left and then a scientist pointed out there would be trace DNA to test.

"Then today, when the senior police officer in charge of the DNA gathering was about the leave the dock, they (the defence team) turned round and said 'we want the DNA re-taken by the Thai Ministry of Justice, they're here, they're going to do it right now, and we want you to witness it', to which the judge said was fine."

She added: "The move followed a morning of admissions by the police officers who originally took the DNA from the suspects, including unsigned forms, no photographic evidence and a key officer who said he was bomb disposal and had only taken DNA in training.

"The DNA will now be re-tested along with DNA traces from the crime scene."

Hannah and David were found dead on a beach on the island of Koh Toa in September last year.

    The trial continues.

Man, I was just going to post that.

Inconsistencies in the cops paperwork Huh? Not at all surprising is it. The DNA either won't match or the results were lies all along. Damn I hope everyone involved is nailed.

    Jesus Christ,

In a real country this case would never of got a foot in the door and all those Cops would of been sacked for gross incompetence.

If these two guys get acquitted it will be a miracle even though the whole world knows that this case is severely compromised.

    Regards the Village Headman.

I have no problem with that News paper going down, to print those accusations with no real proof whatsoever is totally out of order.

They would of laid out some serious Baht for sure.

^ The people were accused initially and gave very shoddy evidence as to their alibi, hardly no evidence. It shouldn't matter who someone is, they should have to comply like anyone else. I don't believe a chief of police would (in a country known for defamation and libel) would accuse a headman's son willy nilly.

I've read the thread and know where you stand, Terry.. I just don't think any of the tapes/alibis offered add up.. Granted we don't have access to all the evidence, and it's just IMO of course. For me, it doesn't matter who did this, if it were the B2 then die they go, same if it were my own brother, I'd give him up myself.

Defense lawyers said there appeared to be discrepancies between DNA evidence held by Thai police and DNA tested by British police. A judge will decide on Thursday whether the defense can independently test the evidence, one lawyer told Reuters.

If this case ever goes to trial again, the defense team would be remiss not asking for a dismissal of all charges on grounds of incompetence with regard to evidence gathering. Then again, is the defense team really competent?

Politely, I have a better question; could the most stellar representation by the most competent attorney get these guys acquitted or the case dismissed?

Another twist in the circus of misinformation...

Two men accused of British backpacker murders claim they thought that student Hannah Witheridge was being raped on a Thai beach and they went to help

Two men suspected of killing two British tourists in Thailand have now claimed that they were intervening because they thought the student Hannah Witheridge was being raped.
The Burmese men accused of killing David Miller and Hannah Witheridge have now claimed they were going to the aid of the female student after hearing her crying on the beach in Kah Tao.
They told a court in Koh Samui that they heard her repeatedly saying 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry,' and found David Miller laying on top of her.

Zaw Lin has already admitted to police that he raped Miss Witheridge before he and Wei Phyo beat her and David Miller to death to prevent them identifying the suspects on September 15 last year.
Another Burmese national, known only as Kringkrai, who is currently in jail for handling stolen goods, made the claims in court after acting as a translator for the suspects in a police interview.
He said: ‘They said they went over to see what was going on and saw him (Mr Miller) lying on top of her.

‘Zaw Lin admitted picking up a garden hoe and hitting him with it to get him off her.
‘It was then that Wei Phyo decided to rape her.’

The news on the trial sure seems muddled. I don't think either of the suspects have been on the stand for a few days and this news appears to be what the roti translator claimed. Anyone have something more definitive?

Whatever that "confession" is, it is bullshit. Why would he then hit her repeatedly in the head/face with the hoe ?

^ What's in that DailyMail is from the Roti sellers version of the two Burmese confession, Not directly from the Burmese mouth.

It's probably one of the worst attempts at a false confession on record. They went to help out hearing a woman cry and then get an overcoming urge to rape and kill her themselves, what a shit lie, Christ. Andy Hall has called out DailyMail for the terrible reporting on Twitter.

^Thanks nokturnal. That article like several others recently was indeed poorly written. Still hopeful the boys will be set free but when you see testimony like the one from the solicitor, you know that money is still fueling the prosecution. How people can have no conscience in protecting the real monsters that did this crime while at the same time sending two innocents to the gallows is mind boggling. A stuffed envelope to the judge is the likely end game unfortunately.
