One trend you see is that it took incredible pressure from outside of Thailand to get conviction in the solved cases.

    Urm,

I don't need to make light of the above killings but we have had quite a few Backpackers murdered in Australia.

Ivan Milat did not fuck around and the Falconio killer has never been found.

When I was a Backpacker I felt far safer in Asia than getting around my own country.

Actually even today I feel safer in Asia than Australia. The crime here is quite alarming and getting much worse.

    Only adding a comparison.

Simply not capable of serious and proper procedure.

When I was staying there a visiting Farang went missing after going snorkeling.

My partner and I found him wedged under some Coral two days later, So off we go to tell the Pigs we found him .

Fukers get the local carpenter to knock up a coffin then we all pile in a long tale to go retrieve him.

Pigs are drinking Mekong in the boat getting pissed up while we done the dirty work.

They did not like Dead Farangs back in the late Eighties and certainly not keyed up to sort them.

Fucker just got shot up the Chimney at the local Wat.

    No electric then.

When my Ex Thai Partner was assassinated on Koh Tao back in the early 90's his very wealthy wife offered a huge amount of money to the Pigs to bring the killer to justice.

He was murdered in broad day light with witnesses present and nobody come forward to claim the reward nor did the Pigs charge anyone.

On that little Island no one will ever say a word even if they Know who did it. If they do, they know they will also be topped at some point.

Everyone is shit scared to get involved no matter how much money is thrown their way.

Anyway, that fucker is still in the freezer behind his Mega resort which his wife now owns.

She told me they will not burn him until the killers are caught.

Looks like that fucker will be in deep freeze forever.

But what's new fuckers ? Thailand has always been like this.

Nothing new is it nor will it be the last time some whitey gets topped.

Evil man from Krabi wasn't murder but rape.
Don't leave out stabbed to death Hanna Backlund, Phuket Mai Khao beach March... 15 ( beware the ides of March ) 2008.
Killer caught within days from eyewitnesses seeing him stalking the victim beforehand.
On Samui, Katherine Horton's assailants were apprehended quickly, too.

I would include in unsolved murder rolls the young women vomiting to death- Phi - Phi ( 4 ) and Chiang mai ( 3 )

    I'm not assuming any thing.

Killed by a copper. Because, Fozzy, cops in Thailand are not cops but on the whole criminals. Message will keep getting repeated until fluffy wannabee thailand expats who invaribly have no idea about the country excepting your couple of weeks of holiday romance understand this and stop thinking the cops are actually trying to solve this. They are trying to close it, but not necessarily solve the crime.

So, a quick recap of the suspects so far.

    1. Burmese workers. Cleared after a short beating.
    2. Fellow traveler. Cleared after repeated questioning
    3. Mysterious guitar players. Never found.
    4. Bar workers related to Headman. Cleared after questioning and alleged DNA test.
    5. Son of headman. Cleared after alibi, not clear if DNA tested.
    6. Farang bar worker? Misinformation?
    7. Group of 8 football players drinking in AC bar

Mysterious guitar players the BIB now claims were Burmese fishermen. They have seized two guitars and matched them with their Burmese owners; the third guitar has also been arrested, but the owner not yet identified.

Not sure where the three Burmese fisherman learned the 'western' music the BIB initially claimed the mystery guitar players were playing off in the shadows - perhaps they worked on a cruise ship as entertainers before deciding to become Burmese slave fishermen. Not the usual career path, but........

Dennis, according the this Bangkok Post article the relatives refused to give a DNA sample and were released.

A police source said officers had previously questioned the two men in the pictures provided by the Scot but they denied any involvement in the murder and refused to give DNA samples to the police.

As I read the article these two guys are the ones in the photo taken by the Scottish guy, after they told him he would hang that night. One if not both of those guys are related to the headman...

OK after reading scores of articles, viewing of 5 very graphic photographs and probably 150 pages of various discussion forums. here is my scenario of what happened
DM and HW meet for a beach tryst about 3 : 30 AM, are interrupted soon into the act, hence the condom with only her vaginal secretions, by the other party on the beach.
Persons, probably 2, come and hit DM on back of head with either hoe or stout stick, drag him off HW, rape her in turns , possibly ( hopefully for her sake) postmortem after the horrendous injuries, which explains the towel over her bady injured face.
DM remains alive, but barely and drowns when the tide washes in .

Police release video of key person of interest in Koh Tao killings

Police investigators have released photographs and video footage of an unidentified man they believe could be a key to resolving the Koh Tao double-murder case and are asking the public to identify him

The man was caught on two security cameras near the crime scene around the time Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were bludgeoned to death on Sairee Beach on the Surat Thani province island said Pol Lt Gen Panya Mamen, commissioner of Provincial Police Region 8.

The video shows the man, wearing only shorts, walking normally on a beachside street heading toward the Ocean View Bungalows where the couple stayed, but then was seen running back about an hour later.

Witheridge and Miller were killed after leaving the AC Bar near Ocean View and the scene of their deaths.

According to Lt Gen Panya, the first CCTV camera located at Good Health restaurant, which is less than 200 metres from AC Bar, first captured the man on his way to the bungalow area at 3.45am and later at 4.49 am.

The second CCTV camera at the In Touch bungalows, about 100 metres from AC Bar, caught him between 4.48am and 4.51am.

"Police have tried to identify the man in the picture but no one knew him. But we are confident that finding this man will enable us to link all the evidence police already have and identify the culprits," Pol Lt Gen Panya said.

Lt Gen Panya said the man was a person of interest and was present near the crime scene. He urged anyone knowing or having information about him to contact Pol Lt Col Theerasak Jantarapipat via 089-780-4056...

Video captures from CCTV footage released by police of a prime "person of interest" in the Koh Tao murder investigation. Authorities are hoping the public can identify him.
