Still, Perry's nice new hipster glasses should keep his dance card full in cell block B.

He won't see the inside of a jail cell. It's the usual Texas 2 step political shenanigans. It's sort of like the last days of Sodom as the dwindling number of Republicans can no longer hold back the growing number of Hispanics who will soon become the majority in the former Mexican territory now called Texas.

A defiant Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, was booked on Tuesday on two felony charges related to his handling of a local political controversy.

Rick Perry Will Turn Himself in, Get a Mug Shot
AUSTIN Texas (Reuters) - Texas Governor Rick Perry plans to turn himself in to authorities for fingerprinting and a mug shot on Tuesday after he was indicted by a jury in the state last week on two felony charges of abusing power, local news reports said.
Neither the offices for Perry or his attorneys were immediately available for comment. Perry is due to be arraigned on Friday.
The indictment has cast a shadow over Perry's possible bid for the Republican presidential nomination, with experts predicting that legal wrangling in the case is likely to stretch into the 2016 election cycle.

In Pennsylvania, Republican Gov. Tom Corbett's re-election campaign removed a video endorsement by the Texas governor from its website following Perry's indictment.
According to Austin's KXAN-TV, Perry will surrender at around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
His attorneys said Monday that a mug shot of the governor will be taken.

AUSTIN, Texas -- One of Rick Perry's five attorneys appeared Friday morning in court on behalf of the Texas governor, and after a 35-minute closed door-meeting with the judge, we learned Perry's team plans to challenge the constitutionality of two felony charges he faces.
Attorney David Botsford has until next Friday to file a writ of habeas corpus with the judge. Botsford said that writ will seek to dismiss the charges, and added that the Republican's legal team believes Perry acted within his constitutional rights.
"It will speak for itself. It is based on the governor's veto power, separation of powers in the Texas constitution, 1st amendment rights and the speech and debate clause," Botsford said.
Special prosecutor Michael McCrum strongly disagreed with that statement, and said he's confident in his case.
"On behalf of the state, I'm confident that the law applies in this case, that the facts will bear out as sufficient to sustain a prosecution in this case," McCrum said.
McCrum is confident this will eventually go to trial, but he doesn't expect that to happen until sometime next year.

Just for fun, lets look at some of Perry’s past history when dealing with DWI cases.
This becomes highly suspect upon review of the Governor's previous treatment of public officials charged with drunk driving— treatment which includes looking the other way entirely, and allowing one official to rise in rank.
• In 2011, Republican and former State Representative Jim Stick was arrested for drunk driving. He has since been appointed as chief legal counsel for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, earning an annual salary of $162,000.
Then, there are officials who held identical offices as Rosemary Lehmberg. Since Perry has taken office, two other District Attorneys have been charged with drunk driving, but Rick Perry made no calls for their resignation.
• In 2009, Kaufman County District Attorney Rick Harrison was found guilty of drunk driving after driving the wrong way in traffic.
• In 2003, Swisher County D.A. Terry McEachern was found guilty of a DWI.
What's the difference between these District Attorneys and the Travis County District Attorney? It could be that they are Republicans. More likely, it's that these district attorneys were not overseeing investigations of the governor’s signature project – the Cancer Research Fund – which has since resulted in a felony indictment.
Had the Travis County D.A. heeded the governor's call and resigned, it would have conveniently been up to Rick Perry to appoint her successor, the person who would – or more likely would not – continue investigations into his projects.
The bottom line is that Rick Perry saw Lehmberg's drunk driving charge as an opportunity to get rid of her and her active investigation into the Cancer Research Fund scandal.
In doing so, Rick Perry chose to use the powers of his office to act as judge and jury - and now he has to explain himself to a real judge and jury.

And by the way, the gun nut Perry lost his concealed carry permit after being indicted.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry lost his right to carry a concealed firearm after being indicted Friday on two felony counts of abuse of power.
While under his indictment, Perry is not allowed to carry a concealed firearm in a public place, and according to federal law 18 USC 922(n), he’s also legally prohibited from buying guns and ammunition, Austin American-Statesman reports.
Judge refuses to toss Rick Perry charges
A Texas judge on Tuesday declined to toss out abuse of power and coercion charges against Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas).
Perry’s lawyers had asked Senior District Judge Bert Richardson to dismiss the case because they argued that special prosecutor Michael McCrum had not correctly taken his oath of office.
But Richardson said that any “irregularities” in the oath wouldn’t void his actions, adding that there hadn’t been any complaints over the oath for the 15 months that he’s served, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
The ruling allows the felony case against Perry to move forward.
Perry, who is seen as a White House contender in 2016, was indicted in August on charges of abuse of power and coercion of a public servant after pressuring a district attorney who oversees a public accountability office to resign.
The governor says the charges against him are baseless and politically motivated.
An update,….
Rick Perry Request To Dismiss Charges Denied By Judge
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas judge on Tuesday refused to dismiss a felony abuse-of-power case against former Gov. Rick Perry on constitutional grounds, rejecting the argument that Perry was acting within his rights as chief executive of America's second-most populous state when he carried out a veto threat.
The decision by District Judge Bert Richardson, who like Perry is a Republican, means the case against the possible 2016 presidential hopeful can move forward. Perry left office Jan. 20 and says he will announce as soon as May whether he will make a second run for the White House.
Perry was indicted in August on charges of abuse of official power and coercion of a public servant. He is accused of publicly threatening — then making good on — a 2013 veto of $7.5 million in state funding last year for a public corruption division within the office of District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg. That came after Lehmberg, a Democrat, refused to resign following a conviction and jail time for drunken driving.
Perry has spent more than $1.1 million of his campaign funds on his defence.

Hope this helps
Perry’s latest campaign finance report for Texans For Rick Perry, his political action committee, showed that the PAC paid the money to five law firms:

Botsford & Roark of Austin received $180,990
Jones Day of Washington, D.C., received $169,647

McDermott Will & Emory offices in Washington, D.C., and Chicago received $126,665
District Attorney Pro Tem Michael McCrum said about the $1.07 million in legal bills, “It seems exorbitant to me, but there’s been a lot of work to do.”

8) What can super PACs do with their money?
Anything except contribute directly to, or coordinate expenditures with, candidates and candidate committees. They can pay for any typical political expenditure, and then some. Super PACs can and do pay for television ads, phone banks, canvassers and bumper stickers. In other words, they can act as a shadow campaign.
