Russia “regrets” military action, calls for ceasefire in Libya
"The Russian Foreign Ministry is urging the international forces and the Gaddafi regime to do everything they can to stop civilian suffering, and agree an immediate ceasefire, describing the military action in Libya as regrettable.
Russian officials have steadily been against any foreign intervention into Libya’s domestic affairs, saying the West should let such turmoil-gripped countries choose their own way of development.
Russia expresses regret over the start of armed intervention by foreign forces in Libya, Foreign Ministry spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevich said in a statement on Saturday.
"We strongly urge both Libyan sides and the parties involved in the military operation to do everything possible in order to prevent the suffering of the civilian population and stop the violence as soon as possible," the spokesman said.
Moscow is mostly concerned about civilian casualties, the number of which is very likely to increase as the intervention proceeds.
There are also concerns, mostly expressed by Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Rogozin, that because of the foreign intervention, unrest may spread to other areas in North Africa. Rogozin added that in his personal opinion, the US, UK, France and Italy are somewhat overstepping the bounds of the UN resolution."
One country stepping up to the plate for an end to this illegal war.

Exactly. This is about trying to get rid of Gaddafi when it appeared the spook-orchestrated 'revolution' was about to fail.
Gaddafi is indeed a nutjob and cnut of the highest order, but the uprising against him was no coincidence, nor were there others in North Africa or the Gulf. They were instigated - whether by the CIA or by the other side (e.g. Iran, Muslim Brotherhood, whomever) - I don't know. But I have a good guess. The fact that places like Bahrain see masses on the street, put down like dogs with neighbouring Saudi raghead and other forces invited in to do the dirty work - and with hardly a finger shaken at his royal raghead over there ought to ring an alarm bell that even the most tone-deaf can hear.
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

CAIRO, March 20, 2011 (AFP) - The Arab League on Sunday criticized Western military strikes on Libya, a week after urging the United Nations to slap a no-fly zone on the oil-rich North African state.
"What has happened in Libya differs from the goal of imposing a no-fly zone and what we want is the protection of civilians and not bombing other civilians," Arab League secretary general Amr Mussa told reporters.
On March 12, the Arab League urged the United Nations to impose a no-fly zone on Libya and said Moammar Gadhafi’s regime had "lost legitimacy" as it sought to snuff out a rebellion designed to oust him from power.
In the West’s biggest intervention in the Arab world since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, US warships and a British submarine fired more than 120 Tomahawk cruise missiles into Libya on Saturday, the US military said.
French warplanes also carried out strikes.
The UN Security Council passed Resolution 1973 on Thursday authorising military action to prevent Gadhafi’s forces from attacking civilians.
"Slavery is the daughter of darkness; an ignorant people is the blind instrument of its own destruction; ambition and intrigue take advantage of the credulity and inexperience of men who have no political, economic or civil knowledge. They mistake pure illusion for reality, license for freedom, treason for patriotism, vengeance for justice."-Simón Bolívar

It was/is terribly convenient how the region "exploded" overnight, isn't it? Though we can't consider such alternative thoughts, as it will always be manipulated towards the unpopular model of nutter conspiracy theories and associated avenues. If the reality {and the absorption} of world affairs were to be uncovered to find that "they" have had their secretive hands into every sorted foreign involvement for the last 100 years....would anyone be paying attention? Probably not. Dumbing down is another specialty that they procure.

Last night's bombing in Libya has been condemned by the Afghan Taliban. They sent us their statement:According to media reports, American and French forces fired more than 100 missiles last night, hitting targets in various places of Libya. They also bombed some areas and threatened to launch more missile and aerial attacks. Reports from areas hit by the invasion, say, many civilians have embraced martyrdom in the attacks. Similarly, public installations have been destroyed.3:34pm
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan strongly condemn this politically-motivated and uncalled-for intervention and adventure of the Western countries in the internal conflict of the people of Libya under the auspices of the United Nations. The consequences of such intervention certainly harm this Islamic country and the Islamic Ummah.
In the eye of the Islamic Emirate, it is a matter of pity that the situation in Libya evolved to the extent that paved the way for the anti-Islamic forces to intervene. We believe, the Western colonialists do not want a solution in this country on the basis of aspirations of the people but rather have plans to weaken this Islamic country in a war of attritions and then occupy its oil reserves through a direct invasions.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan calls on the people of Libya through this statement to take the initiatives of the situation in their own hands and do not let others to play with their destiny. As a Muslim people, they should know their obligation and fulfill their Islamic and national duty, in order that the internal and external enemies will not find chance to make them scapegoat for their warmongering policy. Similarly, we remind the Islamic Ummah and the rulers of the Islamic world not to remain neutral in this conflict facing the Libyan people but rather should play their role in this issue being in line with the interests of Islam and the believing people of Libya to enable this nation not only to wriggle free from the current crisis but also save itself from the tentacles of the foreign colonialism in the long-term.

Al Jazeera's Tony Birtley, reporting from Benghazi, tells us:
There's a note of apprehension here. They have been buoyed by the fact that Gaddafi's forces have withdrawn and gone down the road - but they are still fearful of the sleeper cells that are believed to remain in the city.
Though they've now been getting a helping hand from the international community, they know it's up to them to get rid of Gaddafi. Their fighters are now a bit more structured, they're looking more like a fighting force. But it could still be weeks or months before this comes to a conclusion.
They've got a long coastline under their control, and I'm sure the western powers don't have any problems with them being armed. Getting supplies in won't be too difficult - they're getting a lot of money in from Gulf countries - and their intention is to go forward from here.

Then perhaps the Arab League should have used their own air force & military to carry out the no fly zone... Oh wait!!!!
Just as Gaddaffi claimed all the dead laying in the streets are enemy combatants, so are the Libyan personnel manning Air Defense network facilities...
The Arab league is pointing out that the UNSC resolution called for the protection of civilians. You may argue that this protection can only be achieved by destroying the Libyan armed forces. However if you are suggesting this is acceptable I would point out that was not agreed to at the UNSC.
Currently we have the mass murder of the Libyan government supporters by the "West". They may be driving armed vehicles, shooting rockets and guns but then so were the rebel "civilians".
There are also similar calls from the Russians.

Libya: French jets resume sorties as coalition builds
![]()
Countries including Spain, Italy, Denmark and Norway are joining the operation
French jets have begun a second day of operations over Libya to enforce a no-fly zone against Col Muammar Gaddafi's forces.
The 15 planes patrolled Libyan airspace but did not open fire because they met no resistance, a spokesman said.
France also says Qatar is to about to deploy four planes to the operation.
The move would make Qatar the first Arab country to play an active part in the campaign against Col Gaddafi, who has been battling a month-long revolt.

There we have it then. If the BBC report the UK foreign office it we believe it. Didn't they also report that Gadaffi was on is way to Venezuela?
Colonel Gadhafi needs to respond to the barbaric attacks on his and the Libyan peoples country led by the quater Jew Sarkozy in a manner the world wont forget. He should start by turning Libya's enormous field into a huge inferno of black smoke. Allowing Libya to become a gateway for African refugees looking to make it to Europe. He can also attack the countries attacking Libya on their own soil, if he wants to act in the sadistic manner his enemies are.
The question is the interpretation of the term "no fly zone"... It is obvious that the US is tactically in control of the operation... When you leave something up to the US military, they are going to attack... The Arab League "thought" the resolution was to simply prevent the Libyan Air Force from launching attacks on rebels, whereas the coalition interpretation was to knock out air defense capabilities so they can carry out air operations without threat...
Even though it has taken 4 weeks to get to this point, there are many questions left unasked... Such as, what is the exit plan? What are the ultimate goals? To what extent are coalition forces will to commit? Is the ouster of Gadhaffi a requirement for the end of operations? It smells like Iraq all over again...
