^And I am sure some British kids do too and some Australian kids, but to suggest all western kids have that diet is ridiculous.

They would come from families who don't care or are too stupid to know or care what their children eat.
Those people are everywhere, but the vast majority have parents who do care.

You know if there is any reason for certain ethnic groups being behind in school I would think that it would be because of cultural differences. For instance if you were talking about british school, most of the teachers along with the students would be caucasion brits coming from caucasion families, the way you speak act and think comes mostly directly from home at a young age, and with the caucasion teachers and students may have much more in common with the way they communicate........ Just a theory, but I think a good one.

And unfortunately those families are fast becoming the norm. The diet issue is one of the biggest the government in this country is facing at the moment. So much so, that even "celebrated" chef Jamie Oliver has been enlisted to persuade the kids to choose healthy eating options (without success, as it happens) and figures are published, seemingly daily, about how fat and unhealthy we all are.

The point about cultural backgrounds (Pakistani/Bangladeshi) and the parents' inability to grasp rudimentary English is valid, but then, how do we account for the fact that Black kids perform worst of all?

I find this extremely hard to believe.

Not impossible, just extremely hard. Where was this land?

Add to that the Barnsley district in South Yorkshire, no Blacks nor Pakis, there was a family who opened a Paki take-away, but after their shop-windows got smashed evrey weekend, they moved on.
When I lived there, the rumour of "the Germans are invading" passed around. Still, very nice, friendly people, unless you speak up with a German or other accent on a Friday night in the pub.

Let's not pretend the UK has been taken over by foreigners or anything like that, shall we?

Not yet anyway. Nor anytime soon, I wouldn't have thought. You can always find out the population make-up figures by googling it, I suppose.

Barnsley may not have the same ethnic make-up that other places in the UK have, its mining community mentality and all that. But its neighbour, Sheffield has a good mix, and most built-up places are the same.

Of course, there are always going to be those isolated little hovels where everyone is related and so forth...

    Barnsley an "isolated little hovel"?
    I beg your pardon?

Thriving university town, "Paris of the North", Sheffield and Leeds commuter belt.

Right, and there's also a little town in south Wales named Bridgend that's got a car-hire chick working for Hertz who's prejudiced against septics too. Gave me a real hard time once...

I've noticed that something the Welsh do, is revert to speaking Welsh whenever a non-Welsh-speaking person enters the room.

This is outside of Wales, before you ask.

Why do Welsh people do this, ChiangMaiNoon?

If this question makes me racist, I apologise in advance.

    That's a load of bollux.
Had you not considered that they were speaking Welsh before you entered.
I have never ever seen this happen and I have walked into Welsh pubs thousands of times.
    Urban myth I'm afraid.

    Nice bump btw.
