He is not a mod now.

I have done all the deleting in this particular thread.
When it's just one poster's comments, I usually send a pm telling them about the action, when multiple posts get deleted, I just leave a note in the thread.

Enquiries are welcome, and I'll be more diligent about informing new members in future - it's just that I have little time at the moment.
Stroller, how about a thread containing all the deleted posts - the equivalent of medieval stocks - so that when the need demands, boardies can log in for their fifteen minutes of public revulsion? Maybe you could append some rotting tomato smilies.

It would also give the modmen an opportunity to demonstrate their own impartiality, rather than posts simply vanishing a la 1984.

The threads would be rather cluttered, if we left a note with explaination everytime we delete something - part of the reason for deleting certain posts is because they are off-topic and distract from the discussion.
But it's worth considering, if we get more requests for this.

Policy is to either inform the poster concerned, or leave a brief note in the thread (multiple deletions). - Moderation in Issues is transparent in that the mods are known and we answer queries. It's not perfect, but it's hardly "1984".
-and noone had their posting rights compromised since we introduced the stricter moderation here.

Our 'trashbin' is invisible for members and gets emptied very frequently. When something gets deleted, it basically wastes bandwidth, but we now have the 'moronic kiddies corner' where some of the more amusing 'rubbish' gets moved to.

Also, keeping pics in the cartoon thread is the best idea, unless someone is posting a pic that is relevant to explaining a topic, or examing it further. or reinforcing their on-topic argument.
What's the point of having all these bells and whistles if we can't use them?

I appreciate the idea of keeping the pics relevant but sometimes, no, make that quite often, a poster makes a statement that is quite ridiculous, and a pic or an image is a great way to expose the poster for making such a foolish statement. I'm here to have fun too, and eliminating the images is going to cut way down on that. Watch Jon Stewart, he uses images all the time to make his points, in a humorous way.

And, there is a BIG difference between pointing out someone's foolish thinking and the personal attacks, which have absolutely no place in a forum. Mean, vindictive personal insults should be given zero nano-tolerance, as they provoke much of the posts that then need to be deleted. These posters should be warned, then banned if they fail to cease.

See my post in the moderation thread.

Funny, you should be advocating a house cleaning. That's like Judas saying we should all support Jesus.

I put jackasses on my Ignore list.

I dont reply to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde posters, except for sandpail, but I'm close there too.

Someone attacks me once or twice, I let it go. But there comes a time when a fool needs to be put in his/her place.

And then there comes a time for a fol to be committed to the nut house. That's when I put them on Ignore.

right now kidneystoner keda and one other I can't remember I have personally banned. I can't be bothered. They are tiresome pesty worthless creatures with no other purpose in life except to try to irritate others.

If more people follow suit many of the problems will go away.

One more thing, when someone is complaining about someone else, we should consider the source. Some of the complainers are the $1.50 bleacher fans who criticise the players on the field. We appreciate your buck and a half, but that doesn't give you the right to be telling the managers or the players how things should be done.

Mad dog has summed it up nicely.

And yes, I do clean out my own 'trash', some of my comments get reported and then reviewed.

This is not ajarn, nor TV.
Issues is stricter than ajarn's soapbox, on the other hand we don't want to suspend or even ban anyone.

Mods can give out repos just like any other member, the impact depends on your popularity, i.e. the green squares you've accumulated.

Shape up or find your posts moved to the "moronic kiddies corner".
I beg to differ and have the rep points to prove it, one giver even said 'don't let the bastards, [I guess he meant people like you], get to you."

    Please explain dross and drivel.
Good for you that you got some nice repo points. Looks like the majority of your repos are negative ones, though, have you noticed this?

"Dross and drivel": in the context of this forum section, comments, pics, personal banter without any relevance to the topic at hand, also comments which do not engage, ignore or purposefully distort what others have made an effort to write up.

And when you do, please be assured, even though I have never once notified a mod about a post, I will notify you about each and every single post that I feel falls into your definition of dross or drivel in this Issues forum, the "serious forum."

My guess is there is a double standard.
Feel free to use the report button to notify us of comments you find objectionable, but please note that it is not your role to play moderator here or make a point by overusing the report function.
If you make an effort to discuss your themes in sincerity, I'll be happy to keep your threads comparatively free of thoughtless responses and attacks on your person. Of course I cannot reasonably do so while the majority of your posts are hyperbole and 'dross'.

You tend to not acknowledge rational arguments, from the few who are prepared to spend the time to post them, - instead you prefer to provoke personal attacks, as well as dishing them out.

Double standards? How many of the 20 deleted posts were yours?

Kerux, members and mods are getting tired of your drivel.
    The facts say otherwise:

Bible 101 was started on the 10th. Since then it has generated 2245 visits and 318 replies, respectively. Thats 224.5 visits and 31.8 replies per day, respectable stats and they fly in the face of your assertion.
    ...
In short, these whiners are getting jealous, no, make that envious, not tired.
    ...
And by the way, if the owner of Teak Door would like me to leave, just say the word and I'm gone. I don't need this. You're fortunate I don't charge for my time spent here.
The number of visits and replies is no indication of appreciation nor approval -the pms I get and the repos you get are.

Feel free to go somewhere you'll be more appreciated than here, but while you're here, please familiarise yourself with the rules and habits of the place.

Looks like the majority of your repos are negative ones, though, have you noticed this? "Dross and drivel": in the context of this forum section, comments, pics, personal banter without any relevance to the topic at hand, also comments which do not engage, ignore or purposefully distort what others have made an effort to write up.
    Moderators will act on:
Direct personal insults and foul language directed at members

    Moderators may act on:
Racial, religious and gender slurs, off-topic remarks, wind-ups and inflammatory comments, false information
*action depends on the gravity and feedback, please report material you consider objectionable.

Stoller, I’ll cut right to the chase. You’re full of

personal banter without any relevance to the topic at hand,
Give us a break. The thread has been diverted to 9/11 for quite awhile and you've done absolutely nothing, CMN had to move the posts.

Are we running a popularity contest? I only post on the most controversial topics on this forum and pointedly. No wonder posters find my posts objectionable. Can't handle what I post? TOUGH Sh*T.

Feel free to use the report button to notify us of comments you find objectionable, but please note that it is not your role to play moderator here or make a point by overusing the report function.
I have yet to use the report button even once. Some others seem to use it so much it gets stuck.

I rarely, if ever, use “ Direct personal insults and foul language” and direct it at members. Excuse me, didn’t you post a repo comment referring to me as a twat? [a name I haven’t heard since I was in grade school]. Is that what is refered to in the Forum Guidelines as 'personal insults?' The closest I've come and I'l repeat here for effect, "Up yours."

“Religious slurs' are used in reference to me constantly, and you have yet to call anyone on it.

Again, I challenge you to bring the evidence here that I have used false information even once and even if I have inadvertently, when notified, not corrected my statement.

Perhaps the real reason isn’t something I’ve done, maybe it’s the others, including yourself, can’t stand hearing the truth as I see it.

    Envy is another.

"also comments which do not engage, ignore or purposefully distort what others have made an effort to write up."

Now, I'm not free to ignore who I wish to ignore? You're going to insist I comment even when I don't want to?

Give me one example where I have purposely distorted even one post.

    And what happened to:

Moderating will be as little as possible, as much as necessary."

Stroller, you're full of male cow dung.

    Kerux:
    This is getting tedious.
I wonder how many times you will quote my comments and attack me with your spurious assertions - as you've done with anyone else who responds to your, ahem, "controversial" posts?

    OK:

    Quote:
personal banter without any relevance to the topic at hand,
Give us a break. The thread has been diverted to 9/11 for quite awhile and you've done absolutely nothing, CMN had to move the posts.
Discussing 9/11 is not 'personal banter', the thread had evolved that way, and CMN made the choice to move the posts. It's good that we have several mods here to look after the forum, don't you think?
I rarely, if ever, use “ Direct personal insults and foul language” and direct it at members. Excuse me, didn’t you post a repo comment referring to me as a twat?
    Both correct.
You frequently attack and evade without direct personal insults. Telling someone they are full of bullshit is an indirect insult, for example. Note that repo points are not subject to Issues forum rules, they are for personal feedback. - like to see some of the repos, or pms for that matter, I get?
“Religious slurs' are used in reference to me constantly, and you have yet to call anyone on it.
None of the mods nor members seem to have noticed, perhaps you could point it out when this happens?
Again, I challenge you to bring the evidence here that I have used false information even once and even if I have inadvertently, when notified, not corrected my statement.

Perhaps the real reason isn’t something I’ve done, maybe it’s the others, including yourself, can’t stand hearing the truth as I see it.

    Envy is another.
Did someone say you posted false information? You have made false statements, I corrected one in the post of mine you quoted.
"Envy"? - boy, you have a vivid imagination.
Now, I'm not free to ignore who I wish to ignore? You're going to insist I comment even when I don't want to?
You're free to ignore who you like to. But if one replies to a reasoned comment, it's good behaviour to acknowledge what's been said, rather than pulling bible quotes or diverting.
    And what happened to:

Moderating will be as little as possible, as much as necessary."
    You're still here, aren't you?
