    Reminders ...

Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright > February 1, 1998
"We must stop Saddam from ever again jeopardizing the stability and the security of his neighbors with weapons of mass destruction."

    President Bill Clinton > February 4, 1998
“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line."

    Tom Daschle > February 11, 1998
"The (Clinton) administration has said, 'Look, we have exhausted virtually our diplomatic effort to get the Iraqis to comply with their own agreements and with international law. Given that, what other option is there but to force them to do so?' That's what they're saying. This is the key question. And the answer is we don't have another option. We have got to force them to comply, and we are doing so militarily."

    President Bill Clinton > February 17, 1998
"If Saddam rejects peace, and we have to use force, our purpose is clear: We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."

    President Bill Clinton > February 17, 1998
"We have to defend our future from these predators of the 21st Century.... They will be all the more lethal if we allow them to build arsenals of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and the missiles to deliver them. We simply cannot allow that to happen. There is no more clear example of this threat than Saddam Hussein."

    President Bill Clinton > February 17, 1998
"The community of nations may see more and more of the very kind of threat Iraq poses now: a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction, ready to use them or provide them to terrorists. If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow."

National Security Advisor Sandy Berger > February 18, 1998
"(Saddam) will rebuild his arsenal of weapons of mass destruction and some day, some way, I am certain he will use that arsenal again, as he has 10 times since 1983"

    Senator John Kerry (D-MA) > February 23, 1998
"Saddam Hussein has already used these weapons and has made it clear that he has the intent to continue to try, by virtue of his duplicity and secrecy, to continue to do so. That is a threat to the stability of the Middle East. It is a threat with respect to the potential of terrorist activities on a global basis. It is a threat even to regions near but not exactly in the Middle East."

    Bill Richardson (D-NM) > May 29, 1998
"The threat of nuclear proliferation is one of the big challenges that we have now, especially by states that have nuclear weapons, outlaw states like Iraq."

Letter to President Clinton Signed by Senators Levin, Lieberman, Lautenberg, Dodd, Kerrey, Feinstein, Mikulski, Daschle, Breaux, Johnson, Inouye, Landrieu, Ford and Kerry -- all Democrats > October 9th, 1998
"We urge you, after consulting with Congress and consistent with the US Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions, including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs."

    Al Gore > December 16, 1998
"[I]f you allow someone like Saddam Hussein to get nuclear weapons, ballistic missiles, chemical weapons, biological weapons, how many people is he going to kill with such weapons? He has already demonstrated a willingness to use such weapons..."

    Nancy Pelosi > December 16, 1998
Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology, which is a threat to countries in the region, and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection processes."

    President Bill Clinton > December 17, 1998
"Earlier today, I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq.... Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors."

    Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) > September 30, 1999
"One of the most compelling threats we in this country face today is the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Threat assessments regularly warn us of the possibility that North Korea, Iran, Iraq, or some other nation may acquire or develop nuclear weapons."

Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright > November 10, 1999
"Hussein has chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies."

Pardon me, but, under which person above did we invade another sovereign country, depose its government, be responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands, and waste $500 billion in the process while wasting about 3,000 American soliders' lives?

Nevertheless, most left-leaning liberal commie pinko posters I've seen post here in TD and on ajrn still promote the canard of "everyone hates America because we act so awfully", rather than updating their mindset to realize that the international community are the ones who have been fed lies and misconceptions for the very purpose of creating that anti-GWB or anti-America feeling. The evidence they base their opinions on turns out to be false, and yet they hold doggedly to those opinions, unable or unwilling to see that without the false evidence, your positions are untenable. You and your party represent the real population of the world that is brainwashed by lies and propoganda.

    Which false evidence, SK?
    Please elaborate.

Btw, I am not affiliated with any "party", neither as per membership nor in any other sense.

assuming all those quotes at the top of the page are accurate (we'll never know because sk didn't provide a link), then the main charge against the GWB administration in iraq is INCOMPETENCE.

why can't the US military win in iraq?

If the military could fight Patton style ... it would be over all ready. The military is too much of a poltical nowadays. We never go for the slam dunk method ...

Is it really still a war or is it more of a police action now ?

Dan Rather and Marla Maples lost their jobs over that bullshit story. Since you seem to believe it I gotta assume you're a few slices short of a full loaf as well.
Marla Maples?! Give me a break! Marla Maples is a dancer/singer/former beauty queen and divorced from Donald Trump -- she is NOT a journalist, never has been and never will be.

Dan Rather left his anchor position because he didn't verify his sources. That doesn't mean that there wasn't a cozy arrangement with George Bush I and his 1970's Alabama campaign supporters regarding GWB's ability to coast through a comfy non-active assignment at Maxwell AFB In Montogmery, AL -- thanks to a bass fishing buddy in Pintlala, AL and my family relative Arthur Outlaw.

Listen, it's all a "good ol boy" network, compounded by the Eastern Ivy League connections. And if you think any different, you're sadly mistaken.

Clearly, the media, those seeking the truth, those opposed to the war, and those who have been there in person and returned are all lying. Only Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld are the soothsayers. Can't imagine what's wrong with the 99.999999% of the rest of us. The war is going fantastic! There's never been a single casualty, democracy is florishing, the majority of Iraqis want us there, and, everyone is going to convert to Christianity to show how grateful they are. Nobody's fighting the occupation, and, when it's all over they are going to give us all the oil for free.

    ^^^SK:
I thought the aim is to 'liberate' the Iraqis, not to kill them?

Anyway, I note Storekeeper has not offered a single example of "false evidence", but relies entirely on bad-mouthing certain authors and making sweeping assumptions about the readers.

Is this the best you can do?

Chai yen yen there, sadsack. Don't let your blood pressure get out of control. On topic: "the media" is controlled by left-wing zealots like yourself so naturally, they are not going to report one iota of good news. If it's so bad there, why are soldiers volunteering for third and fourth tours?

You know the war effort is sinking fast and going badly when the government now has to monitor web sites and blogs by people currently in theater in an effort to put out the fires, so to speak, of how bad things really are over there.

We're not the ones back in a corner. You're 'friends,' fighting a hugely unpopular war, are really the ones backed in a corner while those slimeballs wearing a suit in Washington are making profits from it all. Fighting a war with no honor, no purpose, and when one loses a limb, one's brain, or one's life it's for no purpose whatsoever.

Totally ignorant response. It wasn't Rather's story ... it was Maple's story.
Read some books instead of lounging on the couch watching soap operas all day. You might learn something.

It is rather frustrating when posters are unable or unwilling to engage in reasoned arguments and even are proud of it...
