^That's kind of my point. Had the Democrats not self-destructed during the Clinton years perhaps a better candidate would have come along.
The fact that Bush was the best choice of either party is disturbing and to me, as a Republican, disappointing.

In other news, I'm an American wanting to immigrate to Thailand. I'm actually not a teacher. Computers have been my lifelong hobby and right now I'm in business for myself. I do want to go to Thailand and open a computer shop, or, if that's not the case get into owning a bar/restaurant or perhaps providing services to other foreigners. I originally found this site due to the volumous knowledge here about house construction and found many of the posters far too interesting to merely just chat about houses.
Hardly, I happen to think the way we are going about all this is wrong.
Nobody ever suggested appeasement except you.
ol' rummy is trying to serve up the 'appeasement' red herring as well.

what i found interesting about this article is that admin. officials have been forced to resort to only speaking in front of military audiences. within the last few days......
rummy----american legion and VFW conventions
cheney -----VFW convention and also at an air force base
rice --------american legion aux.
and later this week bush is also going to be speaking at veterans.
once they lose retired military, they've got no one.
rove has also realized that if those guys and their wives stay home on election day, investigations will follow.
american kids are dying in iraq because...

And, chances are, due to our invasion in Iraq, there's some extremists right now somewhere in the world waiting to whack some Yanks.

i reject the concept that conditions exist which would necessitate anything close to 'appeasement'.
the US fucked up by invading iraq. admit it and get out.
the US should end its unconditional support of israel.
the US should remove all troops from saudi arabia.
this is not appeasement. it's admitting past mistakes.
please stop thinking about my buttocks.
Boy, this one about made me piss my pants:
Looking in the mirror are we?“These terrorists have made it clear they want us to leave Iraq prematurely, and why is it?” he asked. “Because they want a safe haven. They’d love to get ahold of oil. They have territorial ambitions. ...
Until you came into office the U.S. had a decent reputation.U.S. unpopularity seen as necessary price
Still, Bush acknowledged that the war effort — along with other policies that have bucked international sentiments or treaties — had cost the United States on the world stage. But he insisted that it was wrong to equate criticism of his administration with opposition to American principles and ideals.

Improving Security in Baghdad
By Mark Noonan
This will depress spirits over at DailyKos and the Democratic National Committee:
There has been a dramatic drop in violence in areas of the capital where house-to-house searches have been conducted, the officials say. An Iraqi general has told the BBC he believed the securing of Baghdad was now not so far away.Meanwhile, 500 Iraqis have just joined the police in Anbar province - which we don't hear too much about these days, and that indicates a sharp drop in violence in that area, too.
But he also called on the Iraqi government to persuade militias to give up their weapons.
The Americans and the Iraqi government have put thousands of extra troops on the streets to wage this battle against insurgents, sectarian forces, and what they openly call death squads and violent criminals.
In the present phase of the operation they are working their way through the districts most prone to violence, cordoning them, searching house-to-house for illegally held weapons and preparing to hand over these areas to the police.
What if the left held a surrender, and America refused to show up?
This one made me spit my coffee all over my monitor:

Things are not going well so now we must resort to sanitizing the news and cooking up fake 'positive' stories?U.S. military leaders in Baghdad have put out for bid a two-year, $20 million public relations contract that calls for extensive monitoring of U.S. and Middle Eastern media in an effort to promote more positive coverage of news from Iraq.
Is the war just going so bad that the President has to keep spending time and money to defend it?
A just cause and a just war would need no such defense.

Yeah, Iraq is so safe now: the 'security operation' is failure as well:
Iraq 4-Day Death Toll Climbs To 200, Senior Commander Calls Violence Surge 'A Statement' - CBS Newsroadside bomb exploded in Baghdad's oldest and largest wholesale market district, killing at least 24 people and wounding 35, part of a surge in bloodshed Wednesday that left 52 dead, authorities said.
Earlier, an explosives-rigged bicycle blew up near an army recruiting center in a city south of Baghdad, killing at least 12 people.
Violence across Iraq has spiked in recent days, with more than 200 people killed since Sunday in clashes, bombings or shootings — despite U.S. and Iraqi officials' claims that a new security operation in the capital has lowered Sunni-Shiite killings there, which had risen in June and July.
Harm credibility? Leaving would create a terrorist state?Linking success in Iraq with the future safety of America, President Bush said Wednesday that withdrawing U.S. troops too quickly would lead to a terrorist state more dangerous than Afghanistan in the grip of the repressive Taliban regime.
If the United States leaves Iraq prematurely, Bush said, it would embolden an enemy that wants to harm Americans and shred U.S. credibility internationally.
Dear Mr. President: your actions have ALREADY destroyed U.S. credibility and have MADE Iraq into what it is today. You are a miserable failure and your policy has made the U.S. more at risk, not safer.

Burlington Free Press.com | Local/Vermont"I wish somebody in the Bush administration would actually read a history book," Leahy said. "This was pretty stupid, to suggest, as this administration does over and over again, that if people question what they're doing, then somehow we're unpatriotic."

WP: Bush team casts foes as defeatist - washingtonpost.com Highlights - MSNBC.comPresident Bush and his surrogates are launching a new campaign intended to rebuild support for the war in Iraq by accusing the opposition of aiming to appease terrorists and cut off funding for troops on the battlefield
>>>>snip<<<
Bush said last week that Democrats are promising voters to block additional money for continuing the war. Vice President Cheney this week said critics "claim retreat from Iraq would satisfy the appetite of the terrorists and get them to leave us alone." And Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, citing passivity toward Nazi Germany before World War II, said that "many have still not learned history's lessons" and "believe that somehow vicious extremists can be appeased."
Pressed to support these allegations, the White House yesterday could cite no major Democrat who has proposed cutting off funds or suggested that withdrawing from Iraq would persuade terrorists to leave Americans alone.
Pitiful.
I will be so glad for the gang to be outed in 2008. Only two more years of this crap.

Spain = targeted due to support of Iraq war.
Britain = targeted due to support of Iraq war.
America = targeted due to support of Iraq war.
Indonesia wasn't the target in Bali...Aussie tourists were the target (again another supporter of the Iraq invasion).
I bet you dollars to bones that Americans are less safe now than when GWB took office.
Xing xing zhi huo ke yi liao yuan...(it only takes a spark to burn the entire lot)
Even though they killed those people at those locations they really weren't the targets at all ... people like you and the pinko sumpathizers are the target.
The terroirists are smart ... they know/knew they had to start chopping at the weakest link in the psyche of countries like the USA, UK and AUS.
