I think that is one of the reasons for previous American support of Saddam, and by the looks of your other post the Comunist paranoia of the sixties. I think the US had a pretty bad record of regimes they supported then basiclay anyone that was'nt comunist was ok.Originally Posted by Mhz
Anyway the point with the military dictatership was that I thought America wanted to support freedom and democrocy, Its happy with Pakistan at the moment as it supports secular law and is aiding america in "the war on Terrorism".....in 5, 10 mabye 20 years time it might all change.
I have more than the average number of arm and legs
But I can assure you that America wont attack Pakistan cos it might be the last mistake America might commit.
What do you say??
And for the biological and chemical weapons, here is something......
Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein greets Donald Rumsfeld, then special envoy of U.S. President Ronald Reagan, in Baghdad on December 20, 1983. He gave him a pair of golden cowboy spurs - a present from Reagan.
This meeting took place before one of the most shocking war crimes since the second world war - Iraq's 1988 gassing of the Kurds in Halabjah. This meeting took place at a time when Iraq was first alleged to have used chemical weapons, and it paved the way for an official restoration of relations between Iraq and the US, which had been severed since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
In March 1984, with the Iran-Iraq war was in full swing, Rumsfeld was back in Baghdad for meetings with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz. On the day of his visit, March 24th 1984, UPI reported from the United Nations that mustard gas laced with a nerve agent has been used on Iranian soldiers.
Furthermore, in the same year, the Reagan administration played a key role in the genocide of the Kurd's and supplied the helicopters that Iraq used to drop chemical weapons on them. In 1984, according to The LA Times, the State DepartmentÑin the name of Òincreased American penetration of the extremely competitive civilian aircraft marketÓÑpushed through the sale of 45 Bell helicopters to Iraq. The New York Times later reported that Saddam Òtransferred many, if not all [of these helicopters] to his military.Ó
It was Rumsfeld's trip to Baghdad which opened of the floodgates during 1985-90 for lucrative US weapons exports to Iraqi dictatorship - some $1.5 billion worth - including chemical/biological and nuclear weapons equipment and technology, along with critical components for missile delivery systems.
In 1988, When Iraq attacked Kurdish civilians with poisonous gas from Iraqi helicopters and planes. US intelligence sources told The LA Times in 1991, they Òbelieve that the American-built helicopters were among those dropping the deadly bombs".
In the same year, the Chicago Tribune Magazine listed among RumsfeldÕs achievements helping to Òreopen US relations with Iraq.Ó The Tribune failed to mention that this help came at a time when, according to the US State Department, Iraq was actively using chemical weapons.

Musharraf is playing a key role in the war on terror because he knows that the countries who dont follow U.S orders are fucked in some way,so he is just trying to save Pakistan's ass.
And why would that be?Originally Posted by Mhz

Anyway, this thread has gone in a different direction from what RC wanted to discuss.
Shouldn't have mentioned "Iraq" and "war" in the title...
I would say I'm in agreement with Randomchances post to me.
Cos we got nukes baby.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog

I know Pakistan is nothing for the American army but they say If I go down I will take you down.
Now can someone tell me why America is not fucking with China???
There is no democracy there according to the U.S.
No human rights according to the U.S.
They have nukes and they already warned America of using them.
can someone put light on this??

This portion meets the on topic criteria:
As far as why we aren't involved in N.Korea and Burma, they lie in the sphere of Chinese influence. We have our Monroe Doctrine and we wish it respected so we aren't heavily involved. My guess is the USA works through the UN, World Bank, etc.. I don't know if we are still shipping tons of humanitarian aid to the people of N.Korea. We don't exert more pressure directly on China because they are making progress and they are open to progress.

Of course Iraq has won this invasion.

Not a bold statement.
But remember all of the typical American ignorance, arrogance and stupidity?
Freedom Fries, "Shock & Awe," the Deck of Cards, "all military combat operaions are over" on the USS Abraham Lincoln with the "Mission accomplished sign?
Many Yanks have likely forgotten about all of this stupidity.
They have short term memories.

ALL Americans fit one negative stereotype or another. Ther are NO exceptions to the rule.

I'm ashamed of the Marines who apparently murdered in cold blood women and children in Haditha. They are a disgrace to their uniform. However, I still support the majority of military men and women serving in Iraq and dedicated to the mission.

I went to iraq quiet often from 1996 to 2000...
I went also to Saudi Arabia few times...
and by my opinion, if there are oppressed
populations governed by dangerous abusers, the second country listed
above came first ( not talking about women freedom included )
But as human can talk and produce different materials then weapons as well to keep people busy, there are alternatives to war !
Just saw Bowling for columbine once more...
This is another issue that most Americans haven't considered, again.Originally Posted by forreachingme

The textbooks in Saudi schools incite hatred and contempt towards non-Muslims.
The government is very repressive.
Saudi and the U.S. have close ties that date back to the 1930s.
Why?
