Thread: are FAT people to blame for global warming?

British scientists say they use up more fuel to transport them around and the amount of food they eat requires more energy to produce than that consumed by those on smaller diets.

According to a team at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine this adds to food shortages and higher energy prices.
Researchers Phil Edwards said: “We are all becoming heavier and it is a global responsibility. Obesity is a key part of the big picture."

Mr Edwards and his colleague Ian Roberts argue that because thinner people eat less and are more likely to walk than rely on cars, a slimmer population would lower demand for fuel and food.

Melt them down I say, like they used to do with whales, the rendered fat should keep a few SUV's on the road.

I think that airlines should calculate ticket prices by bodyweight. Why should somebody who is trim and fit pay the same amount as someone 50% heavier?
Its all about energy use, lighter payload uses less fuel. Fatties are not economical at all

Sadly, they may have a point. Body weight is probably a function of the number of fat cells a person has; a number which is likely set at a very young age. Fat cells never go away; they just get bigger or smaller. The result is that, outside of making a massive effort to gain or lose, most people's weight is fixed within a narrow range of maybe 10 kilos or so.

This is one reason why the childhood obesity epidemic is so awful. Fat kids means fat adults. Fat adults cost more.

And why do people have fat kids?? Maybe because their fat parents feed them too much and give them a shite diet, IMO parents of fat kids should be locked up as their is just no excuse for potentially ruining your own childs health and future for what basically boils down to laziness.

BH, 80 Kgs Thats the weight I wanna get to, I dropped 5 kgs to 92 now, so need to keep at it, I don't eat a lot but I do like a beer.

When I wait for my daughters at her school, I wonder what happened, at least 25% of the teenage girls are over weight by a considerable amount, 10 % are grossly obese, in the younger levels you see obesity developing rapidly, the Chinese Thai types with their waddling fat offspring.
When my eldest went to a somewhat down market school last year it was rare to see a fat kid.
One of my daughters friends is a Luk Krueng girl she weighs about the same as my wife 42 Kgs and she is 7yrs old, (the girl, not my wife).
Bit sad because her mother is a normal weight and her Father is a diminutive Welshman, so its not genetic.

Very true. Men who go and have liposuction done tend to grow man boobs because the areas that have had fat (cells) removed dont retain so much fat anymore so it appears elsewhere. Resulting in tits some ladyboys would be proud of.

There are many reasons people have a certain weight or not.

What is 'interesting' to look at is diet: meat and highly processed food uses more resources and energy. With developing countries becoming more affluent and people being able to afford "better" food this will become a global issue, the present food crisis is only the first ripple of things to come, like the oil crisis in '72, IMHO.

in my case its genetic, my parents are dutch, so already 50% taller than most u bastards, for my height 132kg aint so overweight, well perhaps a little but not excessive.

and it is genetic - cos i watch wot i eat and stuff, have some sympathy, yeah?
