he doesn't care about security, he's not worried about Russia. He/Merca have lost the minerals race, China has access in country to a lot of rare earth metals, it has spent 2 decades securing its plcae in Africa whilst the US dawdled, its influence across east eurasia is locked in with "loans" and infrastructure projects, again securing obligated territory and minerals so Greenland and Ukt are unsecured targets for mineral security and the orange cvnt is black mailing them or threatening them just like he is with canada to exploit their countries future generations legacy.

He is a nasty unscrupulous criminal who thinks nothing of fukin anyone over for gain, and that didn't matter whilst he was confined to the US as a low level businessman but he's turned the US into a dictatorship as president and is playing his games on the world stage, you ask me, he is more a threat than russia or china.

The question remains, surely Merca has to act on its constitution such that one person cannot act as a defacto dictator in the future.

He needs to attend a lot more public engagements, surely not everyone can miss

" President Donald Trump said the U.S. will "go as far as we have to go" to get control of Greenland,

We need Greenland for national security and international security," Trump said,

I think the word "security" is defined very loosely these days and you'll have to wait for Trump to state exactly what kind of security he means in this context. It could just be minerals, an extended exclusive economic zone as well as a geo-strategic location for US projection.

But looking more closely at the area, the Northwest Passage goes from the Pacific to the Atlantic above the Arctic circle passing Canada and Greenland. Perhaps that's why Trump wants both Canada and Greenland. Perhaps he wants to control the Northwest Passage. It is a shorter journey than going south to the Panama Canal.

And don't forget the Arctic as a potential source of wealth; natural resources such as minerals and oil. China, Russia and the US are all very interested in the Arctic. The Arctic is going to be one of the contested frontiers of the not too distant future.

I'd say all three. Trump wants Greenland like Putin wants Ukraine.
Look at the tech billionaires lined up behind Trump. If AI goes as some suggest it might then these oligarchs will come to rule the world. Within two to three decades. To do that they need a lot of energy and a lot of rare earth metals. Despite its economic strength, the USA is not blessed with sufficient of these resources.

It looks like the US have moved 3 or 4 B2s to Diego Garcia. Striking distance of Iran. Indian Ocean naval movements too. Is Trump only posturing?

One things is for sure, there doesn't seem to be much ethical stance from those heading up the arms of Govt in the US. Are they too affraid of losing their jobs or the consequences of standing up to the orange child and his circle of nazis and MAGA sycophants, or are they worried they will start to disappear or die from seemingly random accidents like his Russian mates detractors have.

With all these anxieties and irregularities being thrown around every which way, wouldn't surprise me if we'll be seeing impeachment articles being drafted by the house [by the second fiscal quarter].

Trump targets 'anti-American ideology' at Smithsonian museums

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order targeting the Smithsonian Institution, which operates more than 20 museums and research centres visited by millions yearly in Washington DC and New York City.

The order directs the vice-president to "eliminate improper, divisive, or anti-American ideology" from the institute's museums, centres and the National Zoo in Washington.

It also directs the interior secretary to restore federal properties, including parks, memorials and statues, which "have been improperly removed or changed in the last five years to perpetuate a false revision of history".

The move is part of Trump's effort to shape American culture, in addition to politics.

The order is titled "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History". It says that Vice-President JD Vance, who became a member of the Smithsonian Board of Regents due to his position in government, will lead the purge.

Trump's order says that Congress should not fund Smithsonian exhibits and programmes that "divide Americans by race". It alleges that the American Women's History Museum, which is in development, plans to "recognize men as women".

For all of his many character faults, it is nice to see Trump offering some concerted pushback against the cultural decay of left-wing anti-Westernism that has gradually infested public institutions over the past 50 years.

It is time that the West once again took public pride in being the global force of liberal democracy that has proven the most desirable form of political organisation and social structure, to which the worlds second and third class citizens aspire to migrate.

Back to Greenland, live reporting on the Military Newspaper boys visit

    08.23 GMT

Morning opening: You're (not) welcome here

In normal times, a visit by a US vice-president would be actively sought by many allied countries as a useful show of close relations with Washington.

But these days are gone. When JD Vance touches down at Pituffik space base in Greenland in the afternoon, there will be no Danish representatives to welcome him there, and they were open about the fact that he is, in fact, not welcome there, at least not anywhere outside the US base.

But then, these are not normal times, and it is not difficult to see why Danish politicians are not excited about increasingly thinly veiled threats of US plans to take control over Greenland – even against the will of its people.

It marks a dramatic shift from the close alliance between Denmark and the US, as Copenhagen now faces what still feels like a surreal scenario of having to defend a part of their country – which repeatedly showed no interest in becoming a part of the US – from the increasingly assertive US administration.

Earlier this week, US president Donald Trump said:

“It’s an island that from a defensive posture, and even offensive posture, is something we need, especially with the world the way it is, and we’re going to have to have it.”

“So, I think we’ll go as far as we have to go. We need Greenland and the world needs us to have Greenland, including Denmark.”

These words will inevitably frame the way today’s visit will be perceived in Europe. A source in the Danish government is quoted in today’s Berlingske as worrying that Denmark could face its version of “the Crimea script,” a reference to the Russian illegal occupation of the Ukrainian territory in 2014.

“For Denmark, this is the biggest foreign policy crisis since the second world war,” Jon Rahbek Clemmensen, Head of Research at the Center for Arctic Security Studies of the Royal Danish Defence College, told TV2.

There are still many unknowns about the programme of the visit – there are only so many things you can do in one of the world’s most isolated places – but Copenhagen particularly fears that Vance could use the trip to deliver a speech furthering the US claims to Greenland. He has a form with provocative speeches in Europe, after all.

Despite earlier reports, the US vice-president could still be joined by senior officials, national security adviser Mike Waltz and energy secretary Chris Wright, highlighting the unusually high profile of the visit.

    Let’s see.

But it’s perhaps not a coincidence that it’s also that today that four of the five parties in the new Greenlandic parliament – all except the most pro-independence, pro-American Naleraq – are planning to announce the formation of a new government, just hours before Vance gets to the island.

I will bring you all the key updates on this throughout the day and more stories from France, Germany, and across Europe.

It’s Friday, 28 March 2025, and this is Europe live. It’s Jakub Krupa here.

    .
So are all those Confederate hero statues that have been removed Federal properties or not? And wasn't Fort Bragg (and other military bases) renamed....guess they will be getting changed back. Google tells me Ft Bragg became Fort Liberty...that's perhaps debatable nowadays in Trumpland. That may not be popular with some but Trump's good ole MAGA boys will probably be cheering.

Not while there's a GOP House Majority.

And he withdrew Stefanik's nomination to protect it because there is obviously a real fear that even a 24 point winning margin isn't safe at the moment.

Quite an interesting review here of the history of various US bids to acquire Greenland, from the scholarly war historian, Mark Felton.

I did not know that the UK has an ongoing deal of first refusal on the purchase of Greenland in the event of it being sold.

I read recently that Fort Bragg, now renamed to Fort Liberty, is being renamed back again to Fort Bragg, but the renaming will be in honour of a different Bragg, not involved in the civil war. A WWII hero I think. Can't find the link now.

If that is the case then it seems like a better solution than the anaemic and ahistorical 'Fort Liberty' moniker. Names of forts should be used to commemorate historical military individuals, since a shared history is part of the social capital of an army and a nation. Bland nice-isms like Fort Liberty don't really carry the same cultural heft.

Unless of course the young are now ashamed of their forebears?

Seems liitle demand to redo Niort as Napoleonville nor Kaliningrad to Twwangste/Koenigsberg or Leningrad/Stalingrad long gone, the largest harbour in the world after Sydney "The Holy Ground" more likely to become queanstown than back to Queenstown.

Russia went from being 2nd strongest army in the world to being the 2nd strongest in Ukraine

Right then, the constitution does not allow a president to run for a third term, Trump will therefore test this by running as VP to Vance or A N Other Nazi and then get them to resign if they win. Will he try it, a good chance i think.

No person ineligible to be President, shall be eligible to serve as Vice President.
A safer bet would be that he continues to shit the bed, to the point where MAGA finally dies off.
Perhaps we’ll all get lucky and he take too big of a bite off a Big Mac.

To all those people who voted Trump and truly believed Trump would keep taxes low…

Trump is plotting the biggest tax rise in global history

The burden for paying the bulk of the president’s Liberation Day tariffs will fall on consumers, potentially at some $600 billion a year

Goldman Sachs Lifts U.S. Recession Probability to 35%

SYDNEY—The prospect of a radical escalation in the global trade war in coming days has nearly doubled the probability of a recession in the U.S. economy in the next 12 months to around 35%, according to Goldman Sachs.

Ahead of the Trump administration’s so-called “liberation day” on April 2, which will clarify the extent of U.S. tariff actions and spur likely reprisals from other countries, Goldman Sachs also lifted its forecast for U.S. inflation this year. Goldman said it now expects three interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve in 2025.

It gives me hope that he's at least thinking there will actually be another election.

The mid terms are almost guaranteed to happen, and they could change everything, but with the Democrats currently polling at 29% I don't have much hope. Perhaps it's time they unhitched their horse from the tranny wagon of wokeness and realized that to be able to govern, first you have to win.
