It won't. Putin's demands and Ukraine's position are so far apart even if they did sit down to start negotiations, it would be months and more likely years before the war would end.

Ukrainian forces have withdrawn from part of the city of Chasiv Yar, located in the eastern Donetsk region.

A spokesperson for the Ukrainian military, Nazar Voloshyn, said on national television, according to the news agency Reuters.

He calls it "impractical" to keep on holding your ground.

"It threatened the lives and health of our soldiers, and our defensive positions were destroyed," he said.

- The command decided to retreat to more protected positions, but even here the enemy does not stop its fighting.

At the end of April, Ukraine's defense chief reported that Ukrainian forces are falling back at least three places along the front in eastern Ukraine.

It might occur to one of Trumps other advisors, that while the US pays most of the bills, European members of NATO also have a say in a war much closer to home for them!
