People are the power in Russia – Putin

The president has won re-election by a historic landslide.

"Vladimir Putin gave a victory speech at his campaign headquarters in Moscow, after preliminary results from the Russian presidential election showed him securing a fifth term with over 87% of the vote.

Speaking in front of his supporters on Sunday night, Putin stressed that the “only source of power in the country is the Russian people,” adding that the vote of every citizen counts when its comes to charting the nation’s course.

The Russian leader noted that while the country faces numerous challenges, its people will be up to the task if they remain united.

“No matter who and how they would try to intimidate and suppress us, our will, our consciousness… Nobody in our history has ever succeeded, won’t succeed now or in the future. Never.”

Putin went on to thank Russian citizens for the trust they have placed in him. “I will do my best to solve the tasks set before the country and achieve the goals we all consider to be of the highest priority.”

This year’s election was marked by record-high turnout. According to Central Election Commission (CEC) data, it topped 74%, exceeding the figure for the 2018 election (67.47%). The voting took place for the first time in Russia’s new regions – the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as well as in Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions, which voted overwhelmingly to join Russia in the fall of 2022.

Putin specifically praised the Russian military for risking their lives on the frontlines to protect the country’s “so-called new, but in fact historic territories.”

According to the CEC, almost 95% of the votes had been counted as of 1am Moscow time, and Putin was leading the race with an estimated 87.3%."

It would be funny if not tragic for the millons of victims in Russia and it's neighbours, occupied Chechnya, N Ossetia, Donbas and Crimea.

I hope you are well paid for such disinformation, Navalny and the victim of Bucha are dihonoured by such propaganda, it's Katyn for slow learners.

Russian intelligence chief:France prepares to send 2,000 soldiers to Ukraine

    OF
    August Olaf Jersild

Russian spy chief Sergei Naryshkin said France was preparing to send 2,000 troops to Ukraine, Reuters and Russian media outlet Tass reported.

"According to the information received in Russia's intelligence service, a group of soldiers is being prepared to be sent to Ukraine. At the initial stage, it will be about 2,000 people, Naryshkin is reported to have said.

According to Reuters, Sergei Naryshkin also says that any French soldier sent to Ukraine to help fight against Russia would be a priority target for Russian troops.

French President Emmanuel Macron has previously said he would not refuse to send troops, but has not commented on the intelligence chief's latest claim about the 2,000 soldiers.

No surprise. If the "west" wants to defeat Russia they will need several thousand boots on the ground and military equipment to do it. A trickle of a few "advisors" is not going to get the job done.

^^ The French have suggested that French troops on the ground would create a kind of firebreak in Ukraine because the Russians wouldn’t dare fire on them or attack the area. The Russians have said that the French troops would be a prize target for the Russia troops.

French units in Ukraine would be 'priority' target, warns Russia

Any French military units sent to Ukraine would be a "priority" target, Russia's chief of foreign intelligence has said.

"It [a French contingent] will become a priority and legitimate target for attacks by the Russian armed forces," Sergei Naryshkin said, according to TASS news agency.

"This means that the fate of all Frenchmen who have ever come to the territory of the Russian world with a sword would await it."

Pressure from angry farmers is now prompting EU countries to tighten their stance on Ukraine

A new 'emergency brake' will protect farmers in EU countries from Ukrainian competition.

When Russia attacked Ukraine more than two years ago, EU countries decided shortly afterwards to drop all tariffs and tariff quotas on the products that Ukrainian farmers export to them.

The idea was that it would be a temporary, economic helping hand to the war-torn country, as it would make it somewhat easier for the long-suffering Ukrainians to sell their agricultural products in the rest of Europe.

But this arrangement has met with strong opposition from many of the Member States' own farmers, who have taken to the streets in recent months to protest about what they themselves describe as pressured working conditions. These include increasing competition from their Ukrainian colleagues, which they feel is unfair.

Therefore, the EU countries have now decided to tighten the rules so that in the future it will be somewhat more difficult for Ukrainian farmers to sell their products to Denmark and the other EU countries.

    Emergency brake on the way

Among other things, the countries have agreed to introduce a so-called "emergency brake", which will automatically reintroduce tariffs on, among other things, poultry, eggs, corn and honey if imports from Ukraine exceed the average of what was imported in 2022 and 2023.

    SANDRA KALNIETE, EU POLITICIAN
In addition, the European Commission will also have the option of either limiting or completely lifting the measures if it turns out that the Ukrainian products have a negative impact on the market in one or more of the member states – and not just on the entire EU market, as the rules are today.

Among other things, the European Commission will intervene if "there is an increase in imports of Ukrainian wheat", according to a press release from the European Parliament.

The new rules will apply from 6 June and for one year. And the conservative Latvian politician Sandra Kalniete, who has negotiated on behalf of the European Parliament, is pleased with the provisional agreement.

Polish farmers in particular have been frustrated by the trade liberalisation measures decided by EU countries to help Ukrainian farmers. (Photo: © Czarek Sokolowski, Associated Press)
She believes it shows once again that EU countries stand shoulder to shoulder with the Ukrainians in the fight against the Russians. But she also stresses that it has been important for them to do something for farmers around the member states.

    - Parliament heard their concerns and strengthened protective measures. This will ease the pressure on EU farmers should they be overwhelmed by a sudden increase in imports from Ukraine," said Sandra Kalniete.

    Pressure from Poland and France

The pressure from European farmers has increased tremendously recently, and this has created major domestic political problems throughout many of the Member States.

It is especially in countries such as Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary, all bordering Ukraine, that frustration with Ukrainian agricultural exports has been great.

Polish farmers have blocked the border with Ukraine on several occasions to prevent Ukrainian goods from entering both Poland and the rest of the Union. This has both put pressure on Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and created tensions in relations between Poles and Ukrainians.

READ ALSO:Thousands of farmers on the streets of Warsaw
But French farmers, who have been among the loudest in protests in recent months, have also been angry about Ukrainian agricultural exports.

Poland and France were also among the countries that pushed during the negotiations for the new emergency brake, which reintroduces tariffs on a number of agricultural products, to be extended to even more goods.

In the European Commission's original proposal, it was envisaged that it would only cover particularly sensitive products such as poultry, eggs and sugar. But in the final sprint, that list was expanded to include oats, corn, groats and honey.

The agreement now needs to be finally approved by MEPs and member state governments before it can enter into force.

Soldiers across Europe are leaving the military earlier than in the past

As more NATO countries rearm, more and more soldiers are moving away from the military

It is not only in Denmark that soldiers flee the Armed Forces. Britain, Germany and France all find it difficult to retain military personnel.

Since 2014, the number of soldiers leaving the Danish Armed Forces has only been increasing.

The development peaked in 2023 with 1,606 people leaving the Danish Armed Forces, according to figures from the Ministry of Defence's Personnel Board, obtained by DR.

READ ALSO:Despite billions of kroner investments, the flight from the Armed Forces continues: We risk disappointing our allies
And the same trend can be seen in several of our allies.

A report by the German government shows that 1,537 soldiers left the German defense in 2023.

    - I can imagine that the situation is parallel in Germany, where the German defense is in just as poor a condition as the Danish one, says Peter Viggo Jakobsen, associate professor at the Defense College.

The decline in manpower we see in Denmark is due to the fact that wages are not competitive. And in addition, there are some miserable conditions in the armed forces, says Peter Viggo Jakobsen.

In Denmark, a first partial agreement in the defense agreement, which landed in January, has allocated DKK 3.5 billion to strengthen the retention and recruitment of employees in the Armed Forces.

    Not attractive enough

In France, soldiers typically hang around for a year less than they did in the past, and in Britain they hire 1,100 soldiers fewer than the British Armed Forces usually do.

Generally speaking, it is poor working conditions that characterize the trend, writes the media outlet Politico.

I'd rather have fewer recruitments to improve retention than go on a recruitment wave where the number of people retained is constantly decreasing.

SÉBASTIAN LECORNU, FRENCH MINISTER OF DEFENCE.
On Monday, France's defence minister, Sébastian Lecornu, announced a plan to make it more attractive for French soldiers to remain in the military.

"I'd rather have fewer recruitments to improve retention than go on a recruitment wave where the number of people being retained is constantly decreasing," Lecornu said on Monday.

In order to keep the French soldiers in the shirt, Sébastian Lecornu, in addition to raising salaries and pensions, wants to make it easier for soldiers to find housing and improve their health insurance.

    Bedre forhold, større hær

In Poland, it has more than doubled its army in just one decade.

Back in 2015, Poland's army numbered 95,000 soldiers. Today it consists of 215,000.

Although Poland, unlike many other European countries, has succeeded in a positive rearmament, the new Polish government nevertheless chose earlier this year to improve wage conditions.

This was done with a 20 percent pay increase to prevent soldiers from leaving the military for other jobs.

In Germany, the government's goal is to reverse the negative trends by building an army of 203,000 soldiers by early 2030.

One solution could be to reintroduce conscription in Germany, as well as make it more attractive for women to join the armed forces. This is what Eva Högl, parliamentary commissioner for the armed forces of Germany, told the media outlet Politico.

Although there is a shortage of soldiers, it is not yet a serious security problem, Peter Viggo Jakobsen believes.

"It will require other things, such as Trump becoming president and driving the NATO alliance to pieces, or the Americans withdrawing their military support, which will create an acute situation where we will have a problem," Jakobsen said.

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Poland: Western soldiers in Ukraine are an open secret
    OF
    Line Gjerlev

It is an "open secret" that there are Western soldiers on the ground in Ukraine.

Poland's Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, told German news agency dpa.

"As your chancellor said, there are already some troops from large countries in Ukraine.

The foreign minister was referring to a statement by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the end of February, which was interpreted as an indirect confirmation of British and French presence in Ukraine.

Scholz said the Germans are opposed to sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine because Germany cannot participate in target guidance of the missiles — neither from Germany nor in Ukraine.

"What the British and French do in terms of target control and support for target control cannot be done in Germany," he said.

Pope: Stop the war, we cannot continue

The Pope has been ill for some time and has difficulty getting around, so he arrived in a wheelchair in St. Peter's Square. He told those in attendance that he still has to limit his speeches because he cannot stand the very long ones. (Photo: © ANDREW MEDICHINI, Associated Press)

    OF
    Maja Laerke Maach

War is a failure of humanity, and now it must end.

That message came from Pope Francis today when, in a speech in St. Peter's Square in Rome, he made a new call for peace through negotiations in Ukraine and Gaza.

We must never forget that war is always a defeat. We cannot continue in war, and we should do everything possible to mediate and to negotiate an end to the war.

The pope caused a stir earlier this month when he suggested that Ukraine start talks with Russia and "show courage by waving the white flag", which means surrender in a war.

Since Brexit a lot of the eastern europeans who worked in the UK, have left.

Maybe supply/demand has driven prices up.

Therefore he wishes for refugees from future russian invasions to help, the lazy and cheap british cunts, in lowering the prices.
