It is Their land. Are you making a case for the One state solution piwi- a combined state of Israel and Palestine, with combined citizens of a single state? Frankly, I agree- it seems to me too late for the Two state solution. I think the diversity necessarily introduced into Israel as a result might also act to arrest some of the hateful trends going on there. Basically, in the medium to long term I reckon it would make for a better and more sustainable nation (Israel remains the worlds biggest beggar nation, remember).Originally Posted by piwanoi
I think modern Lebanon might just pip it (add the Phoenicians to the mix). Close run thing though, those places have been at the crossroads of east/west trade since forever.Originally Posted by Norton

However, when Jordan annexed what is now the West Bank of Palestine (or Cis Jordan if you prefer), the indigenous Palestinians were thus granted Jordanian citizenship- with all of the Rights and obligations that entails. It might interest you to know that by doing so, the population of Jordan over doubled. But it only lasted ten years or so, and was never recognised by the majority of the international community- in fact the Arab League (and Israel) were amongst the most implacable opposers.
How many refugees has Jordan taken in recently, how many Syrian refugees has Israel housed.
ENT already covered that in minute detail a good number of posts agoAnd lets not play silly games, the Main 3 Arab Countries in the 6 day War Jordan,Egypt, and Syria sought to wipe out the state of Israel ,of that that there is no doubt whatsoever ,they lost ,Jordan lost the West Bank and the Gypo's Gaza and Sinai, who they later got back in a peace deal ,what gets me is there was no hullabaloo when both strips of land was controlled by Arabs ,as you say they was "Citizens" of their respective Countries ,they only became Pali's again when the Jews took over .

No, they remained Palestinian throughout. Jordan comprises several ethnicities, of which Palestinian is the largest at some 50% of the population. Is an Iranian, Iraqi, Turkish or Syrian Kurd not a citizen of his respective country, but still Kurdish? Is not a Palestinian citizen of Israel both an Israeli citizen, and a Palestinian? Is a Scot not a British citizen, but still Scottish?
As stated before the combined Arab army's tried to annihilate the state Of Israel ,any one in denial of this simple fact is suffering from Alzeimers , the main instigator of the plot was Nasser who goaded King Hussain into joining him , they threw the dice and lost , tough shit , of course the Gypo's and Jordan saw sense in the end and signed a peace deal , there is as much chance of Hamas signing one as a one legged man winning an arse kicking contest![]()
So what? Nations and armies have been at war forever and a day. As you constantly point out to us, there are major conflicts happening right now, between Shia and Sunni. Of course, harking back a while, there was a major conflict called WW2 that started in Europe, but enveloped most of the world.
Does that mean a German no longer has a right to live in Germany, call himself German, and be a German citizen? Or a Jap?
You are coming out with total non-sequiturs, ultimately in support of an Evil and totally unachievable, unrealistic agenda. So wake up, and deal with the situation as it is. Palestinians are Palestinian, and the Palestinians we are referring to live in the West Bank and Gaza- currently illegally occupied (or blockaded) by Israel. Is Israel going to combine/annex, thus granting them citizenship, or withdraw and maintain it's "Jewish state' illusion about Israel- because actually, Israel is only 80% Jewish anyway. One state, or Two?
Just to show how utterly fantastic this right wing zionist thinking is- what if the "Victorious" Allied powers that overran Germany decided they wanted the place for themself, and all Germans had to get out of Germany and set up camp in surrounding countries (b'waaah, most of them speak German anyway and thy're all bloody European, innit?). Realistic, or not? I hasten to add, most Jews and Israeli's do not live in this evil fantasyland. They ain't that dumb.

I have always said and will continue to say that the sticking point to any peace deal is NOT Fattah on the West Bank or Israel, but Hamas, there silk suited Millionaire leaders living in exile do not want it ,thats why the idea of another General election has been shelved indefinitely , this is only a short video and fully explains Hamas's intention's
And some zionist nutcase says "death to all Arabs" (and sprays it liberally on Palestinian places of worship, homes, and businesses), and that 'we will drive them all into the sea'. So what?
Are the nutters running the asylum now? No, they are not- but they routinely make the most noise.
The fact remains, Israel is illegally and brutally occupying Palestine, and creepingly colonising it. Palestinians are routinely being brutalised, repressed, and dispossessed- they do not even have freedom of movement in their own land. It cannot ethnically cleanse or massacre the Palestinian population, that is just an idiotic concept. It will never gain woldwide diplomatic recognition, trade access, or travel access to many countries until the situation is sorted out. There are many benefits for Israel to sort the situation out, as many Israeli's (including the last two Presidents) explicitly point out. Because of the ongoing illegal occupation, and Israeli foot dragging, Israel leads the world in UN sanctions (and that's just the minority the US did not Veto). It also remains the worlds biggest beggar nation- how much longer can it rely on our largesse', while it refuses to even address the situation?.
One State, or Two?

The Gulf between Hamas and Fattah will IMHO will never be bridged , this BBC article says it all , although its 3 years old the gulf is just as wide now as what it was then Palestinian split: Views from Hamas and Fatah, six years on - BBC News
Yes but Israel is a special case, and what may apply in other parts of the world need not apply to Israel.
Therefore the Golan heights will always remain a part of Israel.
No need to debate this, it's not going to change.
A quite enlightening video ,interesting comment's too , as I have said and will continue to say Hamas is the stumbling block to peace and always will be
Hmmm...back to WW2. You got me thinking , sabang.
Many forget as to what exactly happened after the war.
Alsace & Lorraine is over 13,000 km2 in size. Germanic in language and identity.
After WW2 this region became part of France and many German citizens were expelled out of the region and into German territory. Others left on their own accord...still remains a part of France after 70 years...spoils of war, sad isn't it.![]()
French citizens now, Good wine. Yeh, spoils of war if you like. Palestine?Originally Posted by PeeCoffee
