Here's Why Obama Is Refusing to Meet with Russia to Discuss Syria [U]
By Rob Garver
October 15, 2015

Vladimir Putin’s ongoing effort to keep the U.S. off balance has forced the White House into yet another politically awkward choice. The Obama administration has officially refused a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and a high-level delegation of Kremlin officials, following an offer from the Russian government to open up talks about the ongoing conflict in Syria.

The offer, extended by the Kremlin, was ostensibly an effort to begin coordinating the two countries’ military efforts against the terror group ISIS. However, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that the administration has no interest in aligning with the Kremlin in Syria.

Related: Human Rights Group Blasts Putin for Using Cluster Bombs in Syria

“We’re not interested in doing that, as long as Russia is not willing to make a constructive contribution to our counter-ISIL effort,” said Earnest, according to The Washington Times, referring to the terror group by the acronym preferred by the White House. “Russia has their own agenda and it’s an agenda right now that they’re pursuing on their own. So it’s not particularly surprising to me that President Putin would resort, in some desperation, to try to send the second-highest ranking official in the Russian government to the United States to try to convince us to join them. But the fact is that is a request that’s fallen on deaf ears.”

“We can just express regret,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to the government-run news organization TASS. “Any refusal to start dialogue, moreover in such a sensitive situation like we have in Syria, does not facilitate, let's say so, the soonest salvation of that country and the whole region from the so-called Islamic State.
Seems to me that these two guys will complete their Kabuki dance, which is all about resolving the tragedy (theirs, not Syria's) of who got here first with the best reason so that neither of them looks like a loser.

If Putin wanted to go after ISIS, he'd go after ISIS instead of bombing the rebels. But by every action it seems he's all about propping up Assad.
Like the men in uniforms without insignias in Ukraine weren't really part of the Russian army, they were just soldiers on leave who wanted to spend it in Ukraine helping old ladies across the street.
I don't believe an F'ing word he says. Bibi Netanyahu on a horse.

but the rebels are ISIS, there is a porous frontier between those 2 groups, don't believe the BBC and CNN, they are trying to sell a story that was sponsored by their respective government

What a sorry state the world is in after 15 years of war and uprising in the Middle East. Where will it end if a line is not drawn in the sand? It isn't Russia that has brought turmoil to the Middle East. What should Putin do if not prepare for the worst? The White House has refused to enter talks with him.

Does the US get to play out these scenarios again and again for the rest of eternity..?

Somebody has to say no to them sometime... you know Russia is allied with Iran too?
It's all very quiet in Iran right now isn't it? They're like shhhh... the Americans are coming.
..... to finish negotiating the Nuclear deal. With the rest of the P5+1.

Don't you have proper news channels where you live?

Not actually true Dragonfly. The rebels are part of an internal uprising based mainly in the south against Assad's forces, with other independent groups fighting to maintain an enclave in the north. ISIS are along (coming in through) the Turkish border and through the centre of the country.

In among all the chaos are US (and UK / Israel ?) special forces, trying to push one or all of these groups against (ostensibly) overthrowing Assad. But ISIS are in effect a force armed and funded by a US proxy, Saudi Arabia.

There is a genuine rebellion going on in Syria against a dictator that is as bad as any other ME dictator, but the greater cause now is that Syria doesn't disintegrate like Iraq or Libya and leave a vacuum to be exploited.

And MrG, of the first round of 19 Russian airstrikes, 13 were aimed at ISIS.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

You're both talking utter dribble.

There is no "ISIS" any more for a start. They changed their name more than a year ago.

And while they have weapons from the rebels, the Saudis certainly don't want them armed. They represent a real threat to them. They've even built a fucking great big wall on one side and are building an even bigger one on the other.

IS aren't traversing the Turkish border, they are coming over the Iraq border from where they began back in 2006. And they are armed mainly with US weapons stolen from the Iraqi army who dropped everything and fled at the first sign of trouble.

I do wish you would understand these three simply facts before you go off on your little fairy tales.

Assad won an election, an election as good as ony other countries. He may lose the next election , should the people of Syria be the ones to decide who sets the standards in Syria? Or is that perogative in the hands of the POTUSE/unelected ME kings?

Insurance harry, leverage harry, standard superpower SOP. But then The LORD is the only government leader to take that route eh?

How much is the POTUSE paying the new TPTA members, has he "promised" not to bankrupt the countries, has he "promised" not to bomb them back to the stone age, has he "promised" the countries will not get raped by the American multi nationals and their secret arbitration councils? We will never know as the agreement is SECRET, or it will be published by wiki and become the truth.

What "non-lethal aid" has the POTUSE "promised" the current Philippine government for the use of it's sovereign land for military bases?

What "non-lethal aid" has the POTUSE "promised" the current Vietnamese government for the use of it's sovereign land for military bases?

Not many Asian countries signed up for th TPTA, only a few islands. The numbers point to a Russian/Chinese bloc in the making.

Public speeches by the LORD and the Chinese leader are being welcomed by many countries leaders.

Every action ? There were, allegedly, some cruise missiles fired from the Caspian Sea, did they not hit terrorist targets. According to the Russian military they " all hit their targets". The fact that they may have hit some targets within Iran is neither here or there if the Iranians are happy.

Assad has requested assistance. The targets are presumably from Assad, with input from all the coalition partners, as such he is setting out the goals. The Russians, as some say, are just the cannon fodder paid for by who knows.

No I can't, because it's irrelevant to the point that the deal pours piss on your claims of America planning top invade Iran.

I assume you mean Putin's Crusader Coalition.

AFAIK the Russians are being paid by their country.

No problems boys the Yanks are coming, again and again and again.

"The US is prepared to use “direct action on the ground” against Islamic State targets, Defense Secretary Ash Carter told lawmakers. He also promised ramped-up airstrikes and support for Iraqi forces besieging Ramadi.

"We won't hold back from supporting capable partners in opportunistic attacks against ISIL, or conducting such missions directly whether by strikes from the air or direct action on the ground," Carter told the Senate Armed Services committee."

So the DS has informed SASC that America is at war in Iraq with planes and troops on the ground. Did a vote legally authorising this war ever take place, did it get agreed again or does the DS have authority to willy nilly start another ground war even thou the POTUES has stated "their will be no troops on the ground"?

What will the Americans do when the P4+1 troops and planes attack the alleged American, "capable partners"?

going after windmills ?

Americans love to have their arse kicked, and keep getting it

the problem is the collateral damages of innocent civilians, not the dead Americans wishing to have their arse kicked
