The US has yet to learn anything since Vietnam. Too quick to go where we are not wanted and wind up with nothing but more dead soldiers.
Here's an idea..why don't we just let all the mutherfucken middleasterners kill each other and then we could just walk in an take the oil?
we all have problems mate- deeply concerning ones at that.
they didn't do fcuk all when this happened https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hama_massacre
about the same time as the us was assisting saddam to gas the iranian buildup that would have crushed his empire
us and europe have been supporting all the scumbags in the region for years and pandering for their relations ,"business partners " and children .
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.
War means weapons. Weapons mean business. Business means profit. America cant pay it's current bills. A nice war would bring in a lot of business.Originally Posted by Davis Knowlton
You do realise that Bashar Assad was being downright praised by the west, before they decided to escalate the fight with Iran, by picking on Syria? Who can forget that embarassing puff piece in Vogue Magazine. His father was the typical Arab despot/strongman, much like Saddam Hussein. Assad the younger, in contrast, was considered a liberalising influence on Syria. He was an opthalmologist practising and educated in London, his wife an investment banker with Morgan Stanley, thoroughly secular- even has a London accent. Whether that remains the case, with this largely foreign funded rebellion, is open to question- certainly events like this tend to play into the hands of the military.

Actually due to previous agreements including SALT, those weapons of chemical nature were destroyed at Touwila, Utah back in the 90's. I helped during its build, but never personally witnessed any disposal.Originally Posted by Davis Knowlton
Not much of that resource to be found in Syria. they also have a water shortage hence their invasion of Lebanon.Originally Posted by Primo
I don't know about that. Lately they have been showing a few bared teeth in Mali. I like the look as well as the low profile they have taken. No breast beating, in and out quietly. Send in the Frogs!Originally Posted by Boon Mee

Seems folks want to show off their muscles before they show off their facts...sinking of the Lusitania comes to mind. Reports have stated that fewer than 9% of America would support military intervention, yet Obama and his adviser's seem to heading in the face of opposing winds.
How about that! Handlers in action!!! Do it Barry, show em you got balls!!!

Itnt: I wasn't actually referring to US stockpiles, although it could easily have been read that way. I was thinking more along the lines of unemployment, obesity resulting in a population in which many weigh more than Jap import cars, strident, lunatic white women, teenage Negroes running amuck murdering people for kicks, a crashing ecomony, a hopeless President, a government as corrupt as Nigeria's, poverty, seizure of homes, drug abuse, one of the highest levels of incarceration in the world, etc, etc, and on and on it goes. America is gasping for breath - almost dead - and it's seeking out new military adventures. WTF?
Oh, just the small stuff. Missed it completely. Green on the way if I can.Originally Posted by Davis Knowlton
As for mistaken identity of Iran and Syria in your post, Senor Primo, just where is Iran in this oblique discussion? Oh yea, part of the get one get them all sort of shotgun analogy by you.
Perhaps America's real intention is setting off a war with Russia so they can steal Russia's oil resources which exceed all of the Middle Easts reserves?
As long as we're prone to make giant assessment's of foreign policy by America these days of which you seem to have keen insight and should be selling your opinions and appraisals to the U.N. or the world of Hater's of America.
My hip boots are going on 'NOW!
You obviously are clueless to what's going on in the world. I suggest you go away and do some serious reading about American foreign policy and then you will learn something.
I am sure America would love to be nuked back to the stone age by Russia who have thousands of nukes, Syria and Iran do not of course have any. See the difference?Perhaps America's real intention is setting off a war with Russia so they can steal Russia's oil resources which exceed all of the Middle Easts reserves?
Yea, I need an education from a pikey like you on American History. Oh,oh I see a wave forming, pulling on those hip-boots now!Originally Posted by Primo
Interesting little dreams you have there Primo. Like Russia could deliver anything greater than a formal protest at the UN. Ooops, wave just hit! Hip-boots saved the day!Originally Posted by Primo

It's hard for me to see what interest America would have in becoming involved in a civil war that doesn't threaten America directly.
Now, if Assad falls and is replaced by a regime even more overtly hostile to Israel then of course the pressure on America to intervene would be ramped up domestically but why the rush? They can cross that bridge if and when they come to it.
There is the humanitarian angle about chemical weapons (allegedly) being used but that is a matter for the UN, the USA is on rather dodgy ground in that respect anyway given the recent past.
Obama or his successor (be it a Dem or a Rep) is going to be damned if they do and damned if they don't so why not wait and see how things play out and then go to congress to make a case for action if it is deemed to be necessary. Otherwise it is a Syrian domestic issue and nobody's business but theirs.
You're right that America did not have a dog in this fight. It started when a group of kids who'd sprayed some graffiti (that they'd seen on TV in Tunisia) were arrested and tortured. They tried to quell the ensuing protests with live gunfire which led to the protests spreading. Then they brought in armoured brigades to try and shell them into submission - commanded by Assad's brother.
Don't tell me Assad's hands don't have blood on them, he's the President FFS.
