    ^ No encouragement needed!

Anyway, Anna helped me to deliver Tem's repetitive slop tonight, but it did have a khao dai on top, which he loves. Sadly I wasn't expecting 'Black Puppy' so he had a handful of slop on the food bowl lid, but went eggless.

And yes, if you look beyond Tem you can see that the b@stard litter dropping lunchers had been back today.

Five discarded plastic bags... I'm guessing that there's two of the litter-bugging wankers... a dish each with a bag of rice, and one further bag containing some disgusting fermented fishy sauce that they shared.

    All dropped on the ground.

And all eaten among a scattering of fowl () smelling, semi-rotted chicken shit manure with a garnish of dog turd.

My countermeasures were obviously not enough and I need to raise my game.

Which I will. I have lots of time and unlimited ammo.

This is one battle that I will not lose.

And look, the bins are literally this close!

^ I was planning on mixing the chicken shit manure with water, and then liberally pouring it over the entire area so that the rotten stench really set in, but events took an unexpected turn today...

But before that, I saw Anna taking in the sun today.

She loves to sunbathe... or is she escaping Yogi's attention. Sometime I wonder which.

Earlier on I had discovered Yogi 'spooning' Anna, although she didn't look very comfortable.

This brought back some memories... back in the day I did this kind of thing, although now I'm much more of a 'finish up, roll over and surf the internet on my phone' kind of guy.

Tonight the daughter helped me deliver Tem his tea, and 'Black Puppy' turned up as well.

And then this guy on a motorbike turned up, with a whopping great bag of rice tinged a slight red colour... the exact same colour as the smears left in all the plastic bags I've been clearing up lately.

I offered him my Heroes dog bowl and lid, and he duly began to dole out this red-tinged rice for 'Black Puppy' and Tem.

This guy's English was of course non-existent, but from what I can gather 'Black Puppy' is his dog, although he seemed to offer it to me. And his name is 'Dam', would ya believe. As with every other fukking black dog in the entire country - get some imagination, fuckos. I think that Tem's two black girlfriends also belong to this guy, but when I started to mimic a mother dog's 'noms' full of milk things got a bit bit weird so I backed off.

And as if confirmation was needed, he climbed down off the road and gave 'Dam' his food in the litter/chicken manure area.

And after filling the bowl... he actually took the plastic bag to the bin.

I am obviously very conflicted now... a fellow dog sympathyser but also a litter bug.

    What to do?

I am thinking of leaving a couple of old dog bowls at this spot tomorrow to see if he gets the idea? With no bowls, he has to leave the food on top of a plastic bag...

    A work in progress!

We got them both the exact same bone each, but they're constantly fighting over whoever has one of them.

    ^ I'm sure you do!

There was thunder rumbling in the distance this afternoon, so with a storm likely I cut short my swim with the daughter to make sure that Tem would get his tea.

And also, you shouldn't swim with lightening around.

It was khai dao tonight and I have to say that the gardener puts together a better fried egg than me.

I may have to start re-tasking him, because let's face it, he's a fukking useless gardener.

Is it decadent to employ an 'egg fryer'?

Tem was straight on it, he loves a fried egg on top of his tea.

Anna came along tonight and she was definitely making overtures to Tem. I've noticed that she always goes for the Alpha Males.

Maybe that's why I've bonded so closely with her?

    You have to wonder.

The hum of approaching rain became louder and louder, so I unhitched Anna so as not to spoil her courting, and legged it back to the house.

    A few minutes later...

A joy to see, this is Anna's home and she knows it.

Run Anna run! (yes, I am that good!)

    Home sweet home.

    Awwww...

I thought I should sit with Anna a while. There's something very therapeutic about watching the rain come down.

    Steady on, Yogi!

He obviously also appreciates an Alpha Male!

Anyway, the bloody gardener strikes again.

I keep trying to explain to the gardener that just because I'm sitting next to his kitchen fridge with Anna, it doesn't mean that I have to drink Ya Dong.

    But I'm only human.

I may as well talk to the wall, but it was a pretty good brew tonight!

    So... song shot!

For fukks sake, I need to get out of this rut.

It was time to cook the evening meal so I departed... oh guess who had crept up behind and was quietly lurking all the time!

Yogi certainly keeps an eye on his girls.

This morning 'Black Puppy' turned up a usual, but then another 'Black Puppy arrived.

A gorgeous little girl and presumably 'Black Puppy's' sister.

I don't know why we've never seen her before, but she's as friendly and sociable as her brother.

Oh, and thanks to Malmo Mike, again!

This of course presents many issues, not least what we will call 'Black Puppy', or 'Dam' from now on. Also of course, in due course, brother and sister will get it on, and guess where a litter of black puppies will be? The problem escalates fast.

Incidentally, for anyone in the Korat area, I reckon the 'owner' of these two puppies would be very open to re-homing. They are absolutely gorgeous and I will cover vaccines, and neutering of the girl 'Black Puppy'. Please get in touch.

Soon enough their Aunt (Pocahontas Bent Ear) turned up, and she used up my last 'Malmo Mike treat'.

And then mum turned up... but no treats left. No repetitive slop for her...

When she moved away, I promised PJG that I'd take care of Tem... but now I seem to be responsible for half of the dogs in the area, and Tem didn't even turn up today!

Without being coarse, I think I deserve some 'extras' out of this.

If you know what I mean.

And then, daughter departed, Tem finally turned up!

You can only imagine how this will progress...

I love 'em all, but at some point you have to get real.

I mean, this is what it's about... my own dogs. I just wish they could all get a life like this.

The state of this place depresses me no end, but you have to carry on.

What would you do without dogs... I couldn't imagine living without 'em.

Lola spend endless hours with me upstairs, all day, every day, but denied access to the balcony much to her pissed-offness...

    Yeah...

Anyway, I've started logging the times of the swap-over in nesting duties between hubby and wifey pigeon... I think this could be interesting.

    Here's hubby...

^ There's more to life than cheap booze and has-been football teams, ya know.

These lowly pigeons, who are not only more faithful than your average human also seem to have better timekeeping.

First thing every morning, the white wifey is sitting on the nest.

And at around 11:15 am she is replaced by her grey husband.

Then around 16:15pm the grey husband is again replaced by the white wifey.

These are the results after three days of monitoring. I've yet to witness the actual switch-overs but have a feeling that it will be to the minute every day. Nature at it's best. I don't yet know what happens at night either.

It's life as usual every morning with four dogs greeting us in the hopes of receiving one of Malmo Mike's chewy treats. They are going down fast.

The four are in this picture, each settled down to chew on their treat. We only saw the girl black puppy the once... maybe she's a late riser?

'Mum Dog' must be a speed chewer because she comes back for a second chewy bone while the others have barely started. Or maybe she just swallows it?

I think she must be bilingual as she 'sits' on command for her bone, or maybe this is just an instinctive behaviour?

The plastic bags are still occasionally left littering the 'chicken shit area', but as they are left as temporary plates when the dog's 'owner' leaves food, I have ceased my counter-measures. In fact, this morning I left a Heroes and a Celebrations bowl for the guy to use. Maybe he will put the food bags in the bin?

Tonight we were feeding Tem (the daughter deigned to join me tonight) when the dog feeding guy turned up.

We were quickly forgotten (I had given the black family a few scraps out of Tem's bowl) in favour of this Messiah, but I must admit that my jealousy didn't last long. He comes to feed his dogs, but is also generous to Tem.

The guy mixed his several bags of rice with a fair bit of 'meat' which, without being over-nosy looked to be dominated by various pig offal with a topping of slop. We have an agreement with several street vendors to take their end of day soupy leftovers in exchange for eggs and mangoes and stuff, and I wonder if this guy does the same?

There's one young female pork satay vendor in particular, who I would be very happy to exchange sexual favours with, in exchange for a few slivers of dried up pork at the end of the day. As yet I've never risked opening this line of cheap dog food, but I live in hopes.

Anyway, the 'dog feeding guy' used the bowls I'd left out this morning and seemed well pleased about it.

And after he'd distributed the food, Tem included, HE PUT THE PLASTIC BAGS IN THE BIN!!!!

This guy is very much into the consideration for my Isaan Top Five. I've been struggling to fill the list after larb moo and pad krapow vua!

I really like him, he feeds dogs with decent food (including other people's dogs) and puts rubbish in the bin. What more can you ask?

Of course I was full of questions...

What are the dogs' names? (other than Dam)
Is that female dog with milk the puppy's mother?
Where is the girl puppy, is she also yours?
Are the boy and girl puppy brother and sister?
    Where do you live?

Not a fucking word did he understand.

I tried in slow and loud English, and also in Thai, but to no avail. I involved the daughter, but despite being educated in the most expensive school in NE Shithole, she's about as much use as a chocolate teapot when it comes to interpreting.

Get this, she started telling me that he was asking her if we had bought our house...

    'Bai baan'... ffs

    Sorry to here that

If cannot find rub any oily fish , Sardine, mackrel, best rinse well before action.

Perhaps she may be interested in dried up pork if of low self esteem , licentious and blind and or blind drunk, there's only a vowel movement from slapper to slopper

    ^ It is indeed.

I'm not completely clear on your meaning there, but I'm sure it's an insult of some kind.

Anyway, the timing of the husband/wife nesting duty change-overs is all over the place so my theory is out of the window.

    Anyway...

    Yogi...

    Because he can.

And to be honest, so would I, if I could.

Would it help to relieve the monotony of Isaan?

Khao dai tonight which explains Tem's huge smile.

He just loves a fried egg!

And check out the bowls to the left of Tem.

I must admit that I'm quite proud of the way I sorted out the littering problem in a non-confrontational, dog-friendly manner.

After my initial response of spreading liquefied chicken shit manure across the area, simply leaving a few feeding bowls for use has paid dividends.

Scattered bowls, no litter, everyone's a chicken winner!

Well, apart from 'Black Puppy', who arrived late to the party.

I'd dropped Tem's leftovers into the top bowl, and that was his Saturday night meal... apart from probably stuffing his face earlier on when his 'owner' left the food.

Why can't all dogs be like Coco... always happy!

One of my big regrets is that Anna and Yogi will never have children together.

They have become pretty inseparable and Anna even kind of 'plays' on occasion, wagging her tail and and running alongside Yogi, giving him the odd nudge.

I think they could have produced some beautiful puppies.

But it's not to be. I'll just have to imagine a litter of gorgeous little white and tan, pale-eyed puppies, maybe some with a ridge running down their backs?

This should be in the pond thread really, but I caught this nice pla nin this afternoon. It wasn't really big enough to fillet and the wife would have turned it into pla ra which always seems a bit sad to me, so it went back.

And then I caught two more of the same size. Had I kept them all we could have had pla nin fish goujons tonight for tea, instead of the cod I'm about to fry up.

I'm still monitoring the husband and wife pigeon's movements on and off the nest, although I tend to become a slave of my own ideas at times.

I've discovered that the incubation period for a pigeon egg is 18 days, and so reckon the chicks should hatch around next Saturday. Here hubby pigeon obligingly left the nest so that I could take a nice picture! He has become quite tame.

This is the problem with showing some kindness and compassion in this awful part of the world... it is so stunningly unusual that it gets abused.

Every morning we open the back gate we are now greeted by these buggers... I reckon that 'Black Puppy' hears my morning wake-up fart and gets into position for his early morning treat.

There's gotta be worse ways to start the day?

A solid fart for one, hey Reg?

I now constantly carry a number of chewy bone treats in my pocket to cover all eventualities.

I am starting to bond with mum pigeon. I am always amazed at how quickly some kindness is repaid. Some call them 'flying rats', but I see these guys as intelligent, caring parents. And they recognise me as well, I reckon.

Only a few more days until we have chicks.

    The Caretaker of Korat

Mendip sat quietly on the weathered wooden bench outside his modest house in Korat, Thailand. The evening air carried the faint scent of jasmine from his garden, mingling with the earthy smell of rain-soaked soil. It was peaceful, but Mendip’s mind was fixated on the makeshift nest nestled on the ledge of his porch. There sat two delicate pigeon eggs, their smooth shells gleaming like tiny pearls.

It had all started a week ago when Mendip noticed a frantic pigeon fluttering near the ledge. The bird had appeared injured, her wing hanging at an odd angle. Despite his initial hesitation, he couldn’t ignore her distress. Carefully, he had coaxed her into a small bamboo basket, setting her up with water and a scattering of grains.

As the days passed, Mendip observed her plight with growing concern. The pigeon, whom he now called Mali, had laid two eggs but struggled to keep them warm due to her limited mobility. Mendip knew he couldn’t just watch helplessly. He felt an inexplicable bond with her—a silent plea for compassion resonated through her unblinking gaze.

Determined to help, Mendip researched pigeon care, scanning books and asking advice from the local bird enthusiasts. He fashioned a heat lamp from an old desk lamp, carefully adjusting its position to mimic the warmth a mother pigeon would provide. Each evening, he gently monitored the temperature, ensuring it was neither too hot nor too cold.

Mali began to trust Mendip, allowing him to approach without flinching. The other villagers teased him about his peculiar devotion. “Why care for pigeons?” they would ask with amused smiles. But to Mendip, it wasn’t just about the birds. It was about the responsibility to protect life, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant.

Every morning, he would sprinkle fresh grains near Mali’s basket and refill her water bowl. He cleaned the area meticulously, ensuring no predators would threaten her or the precious eggs. His efforts turned into a labor of love, and the small corner of his porch transformed into a sanctuary.

Weeks passed, and one morning, Mendip was greeted by a faint peeping sound. The eggs had hatched! Two fragile chicks emerged, their downy feathers a pale yellow. Mendip’s heart swelled with pride and joy as Mali, now recovering, gently nudged her offspring, her maternal instinct shining through.

Mendip continued to care for the fledgling pigeons as they grew stronger each day, their chirping filling the air with hope. By the time they were ready to fly, Mali’s wing had healed, and she soared alongside her young ones into the Korat sky.

Watching them disappear into the horizon, Mendip felt a quiet satisfaction. He didn’t need recognition or applause—his heart knew the simple truth. He had made a difference, even if only to a family of pigeons. And in doing so, he had found meaning in the smallest acts of kindness.

The bench felt emptier now, but Mendip smiled. Life, he realized, was about caring for what matters, no matter how small. The pigeons had taught him that.
    You're amazing, sir....

^ It takes four and twenty pigeons to make a decent pie!

Anyway, I sprinkled some fresh grains of rice and changed her water this morning.

The only predators I am really concerned about are a pair of crows who hang about, which would happily take her eggs. The biggest risk to any fledglings will be the dogs down below who will eagerly await their maiden flights. Maya has caught and eaten several pigeons.

This morning... things are escalating and it's completely my fault. These guys now wait at our back gate for their morning treat. This sends our dogs mental.

All have become tame and are under the daughter's control.

I think that the 'Black Family' are too much for Tem... he takes his chewy bone and scarpers.

A quick couple of early morning casts and then it's jobs for the day. I've had a couple of pla chon follow the lure but they hold back on taking it.

One day I'll catch another, maybe.

Mendip, I have eaten pigeon before. Some Chinese friends took me out to a Chinese restaurant for their favorite dish, fried pigeon, one evening after drinks. It was delicious. They packed up the left overs for me to take home, kindly writing “PIDGEON” on the box. That box sat in the fridge until it went bad. Every time I opened the door and saw it, I didn’t feel so well!
