Hundreds of protesters rallied on Sunday to demand the "resurrection" of Venezuelan democracy while effigies of both President Nicolas Maduro and opposition leaders were paraded for burning in a local Easter Day tradition.

Though millions of Venezuelans have headed for Caribbean beaches and family gatherings over the Easter period, student demonstrators have sought to keep a nearly three-month protest movement going with religious-themed demonstrations.

After a barefoot rally and a "Via Crucis" march in the style of Jesus' tortured walk towards crucifixion, the students gathered on Sunday in a Caracas square for a demonstration denominated "Resurrection of Democracy." Easter marks the day Christians believe Jesus was resurrected from the dead after being crucified

The Ukrainian government presented a packet of evidence that it says proves Russian involvement in separatist activity in eastern Ukraine

The packet is five pages of photos purportedly showing known Russian soldiers in Ukrainian towns was submitted to the “Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna” on April 16. One soldier who the Ukrainians say is a member of the Russian Special Forces is pictured in Georgia in 2008 and then again in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, Ukraine in April 2014. Another alleged Russian soldier is pictured in Crimea in February and in Sloviansk, Ukraine in April. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said the photos “only further confirm” the connection between Russia and some of the armed militants in eastern Ukraine. The State Department distributed the Ukrainian packet of photos to NBC News on Monday

    Divers search South Korea ferry

Teams of divers have been searching the South Korean ferry that capsized last week for the bodies of those who were trapped on board.

The confirmed death toll has reached 113 but more than 190 passengers are still missing, presumed trapped inside the vessel.

There were 476 people on board including 339 children and teachers on a school trip. A total of 174 passengers were rescued.

Divers have reached much of the ferry hull but they are still trying to get into the restaurant, where many passengers are believed to have been trapped.

Relatives of the missing passengers have been staying in a gymnasium in Jindo since the tragic incident last week.
