If you are legally married to a Thai citizen, you do not have to sing anything. I didn't have to sing so I can't tell you exactly what the songs are, but your special branch officer will give you all the info you need. I do know a couple of people who had to sing the anthems, and their advise was to get a proper singing coach to practice with.
Had a dry September with a couple of friends. If I don't drink anything tonight (and I see no reason why I should) then I managed 20 dry days - a pretty crap 67%. The other two did worse, so I'll be doing dry October by myself, and hoping for 25 days. I'd quite like to do 40 days to clean out the liver, but that's probably an unrealistic target...
Moan of the day: the wife is making lunch. She brought some Thai vegetable on Facebook that came about a week ago, very fresh and nice, but she got fuk loads, so it's been a daily trudge through it - rather boring. In fact, extremely boring. I might pop into Burger King later whilst shopping...
(But, on the bright side, she goes back to Thailand on Wednesday, so that'll be a few weeks of heavenly rest. Cost was very good, local Daejeon Airport (only 35 minutes way by bus) to Don Muang with T-Way was $114 for the one way flight, choosing an isle seat, adding a meal, 10kg carry on, 20kg in the hold) - very happy with that. She needs a new passport, and she reckons she can get it from Future Park Rangsit (maybe same day/maybe a week) which if the new red line is working is an easy 2 stops from the airport. &, the mini van to her town goes from Future Park Rangsit, takes an hour. Thus, this new local airport, in Korea, is a major positive that more than halves the Daejeon to Incheon to Swampy to Nakhon Nayok trip. - Not sure this should be in the daily moan thread...erm, oh year, she just told me that she wants a new phone, and I have to pay for it...)
Cycling should be banned!!!
^ Not sure if they are available in Korea, I will check.
I got cheeky and asked the little boss for some omelette:
A very average lunch, but healthy and better than most of the Korean crap... Oh, yeah, it's cheap.![]()
You're right, I don't have to, thank fook.
However, I do have a break in my work permits due to my company changing my agency during a few months of no activity. So I'm about a year out but that still lets me apply as I should be up to 3 years by the time it's processed.
How long did yours take?
I'm quite excited about the possibility of citizenship. My work permit really limits my ambitions. Eliminating the need for a work permit and the associated process may open many doors for short notice opportunities.
27 years til retirement.
Lang may yer lum reek...
There was a poster called chalky dee who posted up his citizenship process that was successful. Not sure if he still posts ? But maybe search for his post or reach out.
And dinae let any kunt call yee a sweaty chicken head.
If you can't find it. He also used to post on udonmap forum
Sticks n stones and all that.
Turns out I've got about a year and a half to go as far as work permits go.
I guess I'm sticking this job out a while longer!
Citizenship on ice.

About 3 years all up, without paying any "extras". I have a close friend that is probably going to get his in less than 2 years, but he greased the wheels a bit.
So just get started, it is really easy, much easier than you think it is.
It was this thread (Thai Citizenship). I posted everything that I did in detail. That thread went off the rails a few times and there is a lot of deleted replies. Mainly from posters who wrongly that believe you cannot hold Thai citizenship and your original citizenship.
It absolutely does not need to be on ice. Start the application now. It is really easy, if I can do it, you definitely can do it too.
Put any questions in the thread that ChalkyDee started, and I and others will do our best to guide you through the process. In that thread, myself, ChalkyDee , yankee99, and kmart got citizenship. It really isn't that difficult.
Appreciate that, exactly what I needed to hear. Will get a start on it after next weekend when I get off the rig.
Cheers.
67 is the official retirement in for a UK Male born when I was.
As a contractor, income is not very stable but I seem to be a bit more steady at the moment with this 4 weeks on/2 off gig.
I have handfuls of business plans and Ideas. 2 are in the startup stage right now. I will post about them when the time is right.
Ideally I would like to have enough side hustles going on to keep me active and hang up my hard hat around 55, when my youngest will be 19.
Probably work until I die though.
Where does one retire to from Thailand?
^ surely with your contractor work you have pensions and investments, besides people like me paying for your British Govt pension if you make it to 67?
I don't know if you've ever had a mortgage in Thailand but they're absolutely horrendous. My first priority is to pay that off early as possible to save an absolute fortune. I have pensions and superannuation from previous staff jobs.
And here's the moan:
I've been paying my mortgage since 2016
I've been paying my Dad's mortgage since 2019
I bought a car off a mate who moved back home. When I went to name change it turned out his Mrs had refinanced it and he's spent the cash I paid him. So until he has been home working long enough for a credit rating to get a loan, I'm paying for the fkn car as well.
Then there's the usual shit that most of us pay like wife salary and schools.
Of course, I was lucky to be working through covid, but the company knew the score too and lowballed me on my rate.
Any spare cash goes into new business, in the hope to make more cash!
Pensions are on hold.
OK here's some free financial advice - when you have a wife and kids stop behaving like a kid one and fuk off mates who are hangers on - harsh but i've been there as a cashed up cvnt who is mates to everyone.
The rest, well you have three priorities as they mater
1. provide for your kids if you croak
2. provide for your Mrs if you croak
3. If you are optimistic and think you'll live past 65 get your financial shit sorted after accounting for 1 and 2 above
its pretty fuking simple really
btw, if you have UK loots and can pay in even though you are a Jock skimmer and whinger i will pay for your British Govt pension if you only pay class 2 contributions for the next 30 years.
