The wife convinced me to employ some local Thai builders to raise the proposed café roof and we got a quotation and agreed a price.
They started the work taking the old roof off and knocking down some internal walls to make it one big room.
I paid them 50% deposit and the next day they didn't turn up...... Lets hope they turn up latter today.
Wonder why I prefer to do everything myself.
Reminds me of an Irish pikey in the pub years ago.
He got a load of tarmac delivered to the driveway he was working on.
Got £20 of the home owner for extra expenses.
Then resumed getting pissed up in the pub.
He used to mix half ounce of lebanese black in his 50gram rolling tobacco pouch and fondly named it "hit or miss".
RIP Irish Johny
Btw the mound of tarmac lay solid on the driveway for several weeks![]()
Shalom
^ Fortunately it hasn't rained and fingers crossed it will stay dry until they finish the job.
I just heard that a friend/colleague about my age passed away during the week by suicide.

As you might know already know, LT - they want at least that much initially [SOP].
Hold your ground and only pay for material and whatnot up front. Withhold all labor payments [within reason] until job completed.
It's worked for me and others in the past. One can find the right contactor that will be more scrupulous.
That's been the agreement that we're working with regarding our new front area loft on the Sukhothai property.
Apparently they had a problem with the jackhammer and stayed at their factory preparing the reinforcement steel frames.
Anyway they turned up yesterday and got on with the job.
This is the first time I have paid 50% up front for construction work and I think I was right to do so with this team anyway.
Seems they are on the job.
Another one about to hit:
More destruction, now called 'storm of the century'.
Bought water and will plan going out for a good Indian meal if possible. Both my wife and I had planned flights for work next week, Wellington and Christchurch - cancelled.
I's going to be a big one and people are still recovering from the last week.
This sore throat feels like inhaling hot molten glass shards and the cough...
Kill or cure!!
Hot toddy time!!
I like to think of hot toddies as a great prevention as well as a cure Joe.
My MIL had a puke in her sleep at 4am yesterday morning then wouldn’t wake up.
She’s in hospital in a coma with suspected hyponatremia. Brain scan came back fine (didn’t think she had one) so waiting for her sodium levels to get back up and hopefully wake up.
Anyhoo, this means I can’t tee off until an hour later tomorrow because I have to do the school run.
Lang may yer lum reek...
Amen to the hot toddy!
Hope the round of golf goes to par.![]()
Probably had less than 10 pars in my life, but who's counting?
Fk it, I don't even count the beers or lost balls.
Wife is moaning about my unfinished motorbike project. I told her it is my hobby and if I complete it I will have no hobby.

^^^^ You sound like a great golfing partner for me! ONE time I did one under par. It was a miracle.
I got cheated today on a COD order I didn’t order. First time this has happened. I had ordered several things coming in over two days. One extra came this afternoon. B300. Didn’t sound familiar but I went ahead and paid and let the guy on his way. MOFOs sent a bright pink tshirt. Yuck.
I phoned the shipping company and told them what had happened. They were opening a case. The woman said they have many criminals doing parcel scams.
It was a birdie on the first hole. My equally bad golfer friend and I were paired up with another two fellows. We were telling the guys we sucked at golf but we loved to play. We cracked up when my ball went into the hole on the second shot. They thought we were having them on about being bad players. It was just luck. Never happened again.
I've putted for a few birdies...
...and came away with double bogeys or worse.
I did get a birdie once, and I then hit a dog on the next shot.
Whatever, the boys taking it serious don't look like they're having fun at all.
Phew! You birdied a hole, I thought at first you had done a round under par...I thought I was doing well with an 88.
My moan for the day is that having started to warm up, deepest Bavaria is going through another cold spell, -4 on the way to work.
I seem to have a permanent cold this winter. Went to see my dad over the week-end and he was the same. Both of us felt bloody miserable...
