    I would recommend to upgrade to Unbuntu though, the GNOME version, really nice. Have you tried it yet ? my version sits on top of WinXP, on the NTFS partition, very convenient.

    I had this problem once and I did have Roxio installed. I read every article I could find, tried everything, every virus scanner, and still no tamale. I reinstalled XP.

    Anyway chose the gnome version because integration of KDE in Ubuntu is so bad it become unusable. And Ubuntu is a crap GNU/Linux distro. Go for PCLinuxOS, far better, anything works out of the box without to deal with the fuck[at][at]g Ubuntu repos.

    Try starting in safe mode F8 - then when it loads, go into msconfig and select selective startup, just load the basics and keep adding one more at a time until you find the bit causing your system to crash!
