I would sort of like an i5 and run MSDOS, if you know what I mean, I don't need an all dancing OS, I just want something that allows me to maximise the CPU and RAM without having some huge overhead running the background OS.

Interesting, now I have to go and learn what SSD is, USB3???? FFS (I have just got USB2!!) and bugger me whatever "gig LAN" (or is this the new gig rather than 100MBS LAN?) but I need to have a look at NAS????

This shit gets frightening! The deeper you dig.....the more of a mess you make! In fact the more I read, the more I fancy a Commodore 64! no headaches, no graphics ..nothing to worry about, or even an Atari tennis game for the TV!

No. It uses a lot less than XP. The memory management is light years ahead of XP.

Just download it off the internet. There are 2 utilities which authenticate it. Someone posted this a couple of weeks ago and it explains all you need to know.

I'm running it on a ASUS eee PC1000 with 2Gb RAM and a 64Gb Runcore SSD. It runs faster than Win XP did on the original 1Gb, HDD configuration.

It's not a gaming platform, but for browsing, emails, watching movies, etc. it is absolutely perfect.

As far as SSDs are concerned, like any storage media you should have more than one copy. They are supposed to have the same or better MTBF (mean time between failure) of a hard disk. Considering I just bought a brand new 2Tb Western Digital SATA drive and it lasted precisely ONE WEEK before collapsing in a heap, I'm not sure if that's actually a good thing

Fortunately I had it in a protected array, so I didn't lose anything.

If you have a large volume of data and you want some measure of protection, have a look at the Drobo range.

GIGABYTE is always good, better than ASUS in my opinion

Toms hardware had an article this month with a $750 USD gaming PC

a liitle bit of tech required with overclocking and unlocking the 4th core on the AMD

but SLI setup for some seroius GPU power

but reading through - only one mobo has USB3.0 and SATA 6Gbps , which I think should be a must have for building a system now.

I think I will be putting an i5 build off for a couple of months

And again, I would not put an AMD proceesor anywhere near my toilet.

I just bought the i5 - 750, now I discover it not supporting the multi threading ...it is the 4 core Lynnfield DAMN!
