I used to run an open VPN server on the internet facing router ( I used wrt54gl's with tomatovpn firmware) and VNC on the monitoring and recording computers - one company with 2 sites I connected them with a VPN tunnel so that a couple of key cameras could be displayed on the security guards screens on both sitesOriginally Posted by Perota
I also had a machine setup in the office that would maintain vpn connections to all sites and ping each and every device every 15 seconds which was a good indication that it was alive - if it failed to respond after 15 minutes , then an email alert was sent and someone could ring the security guard at the location and get them to power it off and on which fixed the majority of the problems
